24.01.2022 Another fine warm day with high altitude horses tails and manes and a strong NNW wind of 18 -20 knots early which shifted NE and fell to a steady 8-10 knots f...or most of the afternoon after the first race started at 1 pm. There were some shifts left to NNW and but the NE settled in after 3.30 pm with a steady 5 8 knots. Here are the results for the Commodores Cup Round 15. Race 30 Jason Magee - Windrush 14 cat - First Dave Morrow - Hobie 17 - Second Chris Guy - Laser Standard Olympic dinghy - Third Race 31 Bill Quinn - Laser Standard Olympic dinghy - First Greg Yalg - Hydracat 16 cat - Second John Smale A Class cat - Third With only 2 rounds to go to decide the winner of the Commodores Cup next Sunday 28th April at seasons end the race to the top is again wide open. Those on top are John Smale and a fast finishing Jason Magee both on 25 points. Then comes Tim Vandervoort and Michael Brindley both on 23 points. With Michael as OOD boat duty in the last round a certain 2 points are his which would put him on 25 points. If the day is fogged out that would not enable any of the contenders to race which would see Michael equal winner with John and Jason.. Hoping however for good weather so the other contenders are able to fight to the end. They are: Chris Guy, Phil Wales and Peter Field all equal on 22.5 points. Peter Field is unable to compete so he finishes on 22.5 points with an outside chance of a high placing should the others not complete the races. Bill Quinn is next on 22 points and Dave Morrow on 18.5 points. There are a maximum of 6 points on offer for the contenders and all who race. Lets hope the contenders for the title are able to sail a fair race without interference from those who are well out of the running. But alls fair in love and war. Magnificent photos attached are from very keen photographer Roy Donnelly. Roy and his family were staying with Gary and Lyn Esdaile over Easter in Fitzroy Falls. Some were taken with telephoto lens from the shore during Race 1 and from on board the rescue boat in Race 2. Gary has all 29 photos which Roy took and he is happy for Gary to send copies to racers whose photos were taken on Sunday. Thanks and regards, Gary Esdaile

20.01.2022 VALE WARREN BOVIS It is with great sadness that we inform members and friends that our Club Member Warren Bovis passed away this week after a long battle with c...ancer. Warren was Treasurer of the Club for 10 years to 2017? and was instrumental with Phil Wales in obtaining significant funds to purchase the Clubs Sea Fox Fleet Assistance Vessel and other grants from Council and the Veolia trust. Warren was a very competitive sailor firstly on an Alpha Omega catamaran and since 2012 on his beloved GEM 550 trailer yacht with Aliki Darlow as his beer crew. She gave him an assurance in 2016-2017 that she would crew for him as she felt that it might be Warrens last season at SHSC. He was renowned for starting right on the gun at speed and in clear air. He won and placed in several PS Series on the Gem and in 2008-2009 he and I were joint Runners up in the Commodores Cup, he on his Alpha Omega cat and I on my Laser. Warren was born and educated in UK and did accounting. He worked in the Bahamas for several years and sailed against the famous Bahaman Olympian and World Class winning yachtsman Bobby Symonette who sailed 5.5m yachts at that time. In Australia in 1976 he was one of the first to buy the new Laser Performance dinghy and sailed it from Connells Point SC on the Georges River in Sydney. He and Glenda moved from Jervis Bay in 2005? He was the Executive Director of the Australian Liquor Stores Association and retired to Mittagong with Glenda, his Alpha Omega catamaran and a BMW motor cycle. He always kept his cars immaculately as he did his boats, sails and equipment. He may or may not have known that his old Gem Dodgem placed first on the last day of the 2018-2019 season on Sunday 28th April 2019. Our deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Glenda, his children and their families. Vale Warren. Sailing on. Warrens funeral arrangements will be advised soon. Notes from Gary Esdaile

17.01.2022 We fell asleep in one world, and woke up in another. Suddenly Disney is out of magic, Paris is no longer romantic, New York doesnt stand up anymore, the Chinese wall is no longer a fortress, and Mecca is empty.... Hugs & kisses suddenly become weapons, and not visiting parents & friends becomes an act of love. Suddenly you realize that power, beauty & money are worthless, and cant get you the oxygen youre fighting for. The world continues its life and it is beautiful. It only puts humans in cages. I think its sending us a message: "You are not necessary. The air, earth, water and sky without you are fine. When you come back, remember that you are my guests. Not my masters." See more

11.01.2022 Here are the results from Round 18 of the Commodores Cup sailed on Sunday. This was the last Round of our 2016-2017 sailing season. Only one race was able to b...e completed in next to no wind. The course was shortened as almost 2 hours had elapsed since the start at 1 pm and those that finished were keen to add points to their tally for the Commodores Cup. Louis Maxwell on his Spiral again won the race on handicap and next season will see him improving further. The Cats sailed the final race of the Summer Pointscore within the race as well. There were only 2 finishers with George Lemann first and Gordon Kay second. The attached photograph taken by Kylie Woods shows serene conditions on the reservoir as the leaders approached the finish. 04.01.2022 Only the hardiest of highland sailors braved the elements on Sunday for rounds 5 and 6 of the Commodores Cup. While the famous Fitzroy fog held off it was lurk...ing just beyond the dam wall ready to pounce on any wayward navigators. A light soueasterly breeze blew throughout the day and the two races were contested keenly. There has been some interest in remote controlled yachting at the club and if anyone else is interested in that or regular sailing please contact George on 0490094998. Results Race 5 1st - Blue Robinson (Finn) 2nd - Kylie Woods (Hobie 14 turbo) 3rd - John Smale (Cobra) Race 6 1st - John Smale (Cobra) 2nd - Blue Robinson (Finn) 3rd - Dave Morow (Tornado)
