23.01.2022 ART - CULTURE - ENTERTAINMENT After a long hiatus, there’s a delightful buzz at the Royal Theatre, Quirindi as patrons embrace the atmosphere of the 2020 Sunflower Art + Craft Festival. There are smiles all-round as winners of the Arts and Gardens sections of recent community events are announced by incoming Deputy Mayor, Mr Ken Cudmore.... Andrew Ballard from Liverpool Plains Shire Council said the event is well attended, with community members thrilled to have an event to attend It’s been a long journey of restrictions due to COVID-19 which saw the temporary closure of the much-admired Theatre. So, to have a showcase of live music from young local musicians, art from people of all ages and a celebrations of gardens, after years of drought has made for a joyful occasion, said Mr Ballard. The exhibition at the Theatre will be open tomorrow - Saturday 7 November with proceeds from the ‘gold coin donation for entry’ going to assist local organisations, Quota International of Quirindi Inc and the Rotary Club of Quirindi. You can vote for the ‘Viewer’s Choice’ award for which artwork/craft piece you believe deserves to win. There is a COVID-safe plan in place, and we look forward to celebrating the amazing Art of our region, concluded Mr Ballard. Winners of the Art and of the Garden events are listed on the Liverpool Plains Shire Council Facebook page. By Sally Alden Photography

11.01.2022 LIVING LARGE ‘Roar Talent’ took to the stage tonight, when Bill Chambers lit up Quirindi for the Royal Theatres first live gig since the pandemic. When the restrictions hit, musos were the first to lose their jobs and we are the last to get them back. We support the decision for restrictions for obvious reasons, but the truth is it’s been a hard, long journey for the entertainment industry, said Bill as part of tonight’s engaging and intimate live gig.... Bill was joined onstage in a jam-session with talented guitarist Steve MacAuley, as the duo pumped out some loud, rustic, raw tunes by the likes of Johnny Cash. Renowned muso Allison Forbes (winner of four Golden Guitars) also took centre stage with Bill as the duo bantered much to the amusement of the crowd before entrancing with one of Allisons latest releases. Local musician and performer Carly Robinson and Steve MacAuley, from Gunnedah opened the evening performing some classic covers and some of Carly’s originals to the delight of the enthralled gathered crowd. The famous Australian country musician, Bill, is a former member of the Dead Ringer Band. Chambers's albums Sleeping with the Blues and Cold Trail which he performed tonight -were nominated for the ARIA Award for Best Country Album. I have missed connecting with a live audience, tonight has been fantastic. We’ve been doing Facebook Live and online gigs to keep musos connected, but nothing gets you as engaged as meeting people in person and playing live, said the exceptional musician and performer, who added the social effects of the pandemic and lockdown have included awful impacts on peoples mental health, and encouraged those suffering to seek professional help. We are social creatures and connect through community, so nights like tonight are important for many of us. The Royal Theatre is a fantastic space to perform and tonight has been magic, concluded Bill. Royal Theatre, Manager, Andrew Ballard welcomed the event, the astonishing talent and the fantastic crowd to the theatre. It’s so thrilling that live music is back at the Royal Theatre and the crowd and local community were blown away to enjoy the talent of Bill Chambers, Allison Forbes, Carly Robinson and Steve MacAuley, said Theatre manager, Andrew Ballard. Tonight’s event is supported by Destination NSW as part of the Great Southern Nights Land of 1000 Gigs and ARIA. What a great night of live music, community spirt.
