25.01.2022 Planted some Verano grass in my little nursery. They will be my mother plants, which I will collect the seeds and use them on erosion parts. Verano grass is ver...y deep rooted and is holding the soil on slope areas. But unfortunately, this sort of grass is not fire resistant. Last year fire has destroyed all the Verano grass Roy has planted once on the creek crossing. Erosion has started everywhere. See more

25.01.2022 Wasps are very busy.

25.01.2022 A few month ago I had to take off the PVC, which was protecting the bush building from the rain. The PVC was completely deteriorate through the tropical climate. I could manage by myself to attach the 90% shade cloth and a new PVC piece over the doorway. The bush building is far away from finished. There is still a lot of work to do outside and inside to finish it completely. The opposite side still has the old green PVC on, but one side has ripped from the storm I had the... other day. I still have to repair that as I have no time yet to do the other side. I finish one side first with the time. I do not have to take this shade cloth off anymore, I only have to cut out the windows and colored tins will be attached on some places. The shade cloth only will be seen from the inside. I have to build a veranda in the front that the walls are protected from rain with strong wind. I have all the material, but a lot of other jobs are waiting. So nothing is so quick done when you have to do it by yourself. This year I only had some help from local people. There are some oversee volunteers who would like to come next year. Two of them are builders, which would be so much help. Never say no to 'RAIN, MECHANICS and BUILDERS! See more

23.01.2022 The famous Italian diver Enzo Mallorca dove into the sea of Syracuse and was talking to his daughter Rossana who was aboard the boat. Ready to go in, he felt... something slightly hit his back. He turned and saw a dolphin. Then he realized that the dolphin did not want to play but to express something. The animal dove and Enzo followed. At a depth of about 12 meters, trapped in an abandoned net, there was another dolphin. Enzo quickly asked his daughter to grab the diving knives. Soon, the two of them managed to free the dolphin, which, at the end of the ordeal, emerged, issued an "almost human cry" (describes Enzo). (A dolphin can stay under water for up to 10 minutes, then it drowns.) The released dolphin was helped to the surface by Enzo, Rosana and the other dolphin. That’s when the surprise came: she was pregnant! The male circled them, and then stopped in front of Enzo, touched his cheek (like a kiss), in a gesture of gratitude and then they both swam off. Enzo Mallorca ended his speech by saying: Until man learns to respect and speak to the animal world, he can never know his true role on Earth." ~ Vangelis.

22.01.2022 Made the enclosure house into a bird house that Jango can be save when a storm with rain hits the camp. Jango was very interested watching me during the work.

20.01.2022 Look how much hair I’ve grown everyone. I’ll be able to come out of my pouch soon and learn to stand and even maybe hop! Timmy

20.01.2022 Yesterday when I went down to the horse yard, the crow was sitting on the water drum. I expected to find another cane toad in the water. No, this time there wer...e the remains of a lizard. Part of the tail and half of an arm. What a shame! I think it was a baby frilled necked lizard. I still have frilled necked lizards around my area and sometimes I see one close to the horse yard, speeding off on his hind legs. See more

19.01.2022 I drove to town yesterday morning and passed cockatoo spring. A fire got lit at the same place like last year, like every year. Although there was a good rain a... few days ago, but that does not means that the wet season has started. It is the beginning of October and how do we know today how much rain will come. Apart of it, what’s the reason to burn that little bit of grass? Now the ground is exposed to the scorching heat. The old dead grass should be burnt off during the wet season, which will leave the new growth. What difference does it makes to have meetings and a lot of talks to educate people when they do not listen and don’t care about anything? The red steer is to lazy to walk the country today. There is hardly any wildlife left as they burn their food at the wrong time of the year. Even the cattle they put on this land are skinny. As long there are not stronger laws, nothing will change and the no hoppers will continue to wreck the country until there is nothing left. See more

19.01.2022 I just love the Agile wallabies. A mob always comes in the evening for a feed. Most of the females have joeys.

18.01.2022 Just created a garden compost place filled up with garden matters. The idea was given to me from Mandy Milburn from the community garden. I have tons of leaves ...lying around all over the place. Eventually, the organic matter will go into mulch and soil, which I can use to build up soil. During the years I was always picking up and transported leaves from the old camp to the night paddock to cover bare ground. See more

18.01.2022 Polly the olive python came out this evening for a drink of water out of my tadpole pond. I don’t mind the small pythons but don’t like the real big ones. They are after my rock wallabies. I give them a bit of a hiding with the plastic rake and then they keep away for a while.

17.01.2022 Took the bucket off and put the forklift on and loaded the quad bike on the Ute. It’s the first time I did it and it took me over an hour. Had to struggle to ta...ke the hydraulic pipe off the bucket. I was covered in sweat and dirt but I did it. Made me feel much better. Just a beautiful machine when you know how to handle it. 15.01.2022 Good morning from Morty, the magpie who thinks it's a rooster from Broke in the Hunter Valley. Omo the cat seems used to the cockadoodledoo these days. : Samantha Jayne Fernance

14.01.2022 Last nights little storm from the top of Kelly's Knob in the best town in Australia, KUNUNURRA! Each of these two images are taken with 5 separate long exposur...es and layered together. I followed this lightning nearly all the way to Wyndham to go to the top of Five Rivers Lookout, but in the excitement my fuel gauge wasn't allowing me to get all the way. Fortunately I captured a few good shots along the way. Man I love the ever changing seasons in the East Kimberley Region. From clear blue skys and the explosive Milky Way, cracking lightning shows to the excitement of the waterfall season. Our town has it all! See more

12.01.2022 I hope we soon can do something like this in the Kimberley together with Indigenous people.

10.01.2022 Pruning my mango trees. Two are done and still many to go. When I was a child, I always liked to climb up trees and I still like it. Never to old and it keeps me fit.

08.01.2022 Some of this Agile wallabies I have raised and some of them are wild ones. They all have joeys. As there is not much food around, (because the land is in a very bad condition, because through too many deliberate lit fires at the wrong time of the year) I feed my mates until the rain season starts again.

08.01.2022 We need your help to breed more bilby babies (like Cliff and Gonzo ) in 2021! Be part of bilby-saving history and help fund our Charleville breeding facility u...pgrade today This upgrade will give us the ability to double our current annual bilby breeding program, and will be a game changer in helping us reach the goal of establishing free-living bilby populations in protected reserves around Australia. But to get this project off the ground in the new year, we urgently need funds for: Five new creching/breeding pens for our breeding families to burrow and live in New nesting boxes for our new bilbies to be welcomed into the world An extension for a new hospital to cater to current and additional bilbies Additional equipment such as microchip reader, scales and food.

05.01.2022 An estimated 7,000 to 8,000 tigers are being farmed today in China, their bones steeped in alcohol to make tiger bone wine, their meat sold, and their skins tur...ned into rugs for members of China’s wealthy elite. At least 8,000 tigers are estimated to be held across more than 200 tiger farms in East and Southeast Asia. That’s more than double the number of tigers left in the wild. Tiger farms are facilities that breed tigers for commercial sale or trade of tiger.

02.01.2022 Welcome Bibi Bibi is one of three orphans who came to us on the same day this week. Bibi was rescued and raised the last few months by a great carer. So she has come to us healthy and already enjoying the cuddles of humans. Bibi is making good friends with Luckey and Desert Rose

01.01.2022 Too many animals have been allowed to drown in Queensland’s horrific shark nets gasping for their last breath. It’s time to stop this senseless killing of marine life. PLEASE CLICK HERE TO SIGN THE PETITION: https://notothenets.com/
