02.05.2022 Congratulations to our Youth Development squad teams who competed at the Club Marine NSW Youth Match Racing Championship at Cruising Yacht Club Of Australia ove...r the weekend. The teams experienced very challenging race conditions with a gusty southerly on Saturday, followed by light and shifty wind on Sunday. Alistair Read and his team finished in 3rd position overall, beating Jed Cruickshank’s team from RSYS in the Petit-Final. Meanwhile, D’Arcy Kemp and team finished in a respectable 6th position overall. This was Kemp’s first ever Match Racing regatta as a Skipper, and he is looking forward to improving his Match Racing knowledge ahead of his next regatta. 20.04.2022 RPAYC Members awarded top honours at the CYCA Audi Bluewater Pointscore Series Presentation. Jules Hall and Jan Scholten were named the inaugural Two-Handed Oc...ean Racers of the Year after a dominant campaign on Jules’ J/99 Disko Trooper_Contender Sailcloth. The pair won the first two races of the Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore in the Two-Handed Division, before finishing third in the Cabbage Tree Island Race and sweeping all divisional handicaps in the 2021 Rolex Sydney Hobart. Antony Hawke RPAYC Youth Development sailor scooped the Youth Ocean Racer of the Year award after completing his second Rolex Sydney Hobart on Richard Hudson and David Beak’s Pretty Woman. 21-year-old bowman Hawke competed in all Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore races aboard Pretty Woman, which finished an impressive 14th overall on IRC. Richard and David have done awesome stuff for youth development, getting young sailors on board for offshore races and showing what it’s like, he said. It’s such a great vibe on the boat. We’re all great mates and everyone loves being out there. I was quite surprised when I heard I got this award, but I’m loving it and thank the CYCA and everyone who put me forward for it. Pretty Woman also took the honour of 1st place IRC Corinthian and 1st place in the Wild Rose Pointscore. Wings, Ian Edwards and Old School Racing, Mark Griffith also featured in the Pointscore placings. 16.03.2022 Sunday saw a wet and blustery afternoon on Pittwater which challenged all of the teams for the final day of racing at the ‘ecostore Youth Match Racing Regatta’.... The prestigious ‘Harken International Youth Match Racing Regatta’ was postponed for 2021 due to interstate and international teams being unable to travel, hence the ‘ecostore Youth Match Racing Regatta’ was born to support the local teams and clubs. Winds varied from 8-25kts at times with 30 degree wind shifts across the course. Will Sargent and team came from 1 point down to eventually defeat Alistair Read and team 3-1 in the finals. Read was never out of touch with multiple lead changes where even small mistakes were capitalised on. Congratulations to all of the teams and thankyou to event sponsor ecowash (Boatwash.com.au), as well as our volunteer race committee and umpires. 21.01.2022 Our Youth Development Program sailors under the guidance of coach Tom Spithill had the opportunity to try their hand at windsurfing during a recent training session using the Club's fleet of LT Windsurfers. It is very important for our sailors to be cross training in other classes, disciplines and styles of sailing. Every hour on the water is a learning opportunity and we never ever stop learning.
