22.01.2022 In the early days of starting a new business did you do almost anything to snag that new client? From charging less than dollars an hour, to working all night long to meet impossible deadlines Yep, that was me! But I soon realised that undercutting and overloading myself just to get another job lead to feeling dissatisfied and overwhelmed. It was taking away the joy that I have in writing and the whole reason I started this business in the first place. ... I now know that it's not just about snagging a new client, it's about providing value to someone who really appreciates that value. I'm tired of seeing illusions that don't work, take down the competitor wars, and feeling like I have to compete with people who sell through super savings instead of legitimate skill offers. With "AI" copywriters and stock standard copypasta doing the rounds, the noise is just too much. It takes hard work, focus, the right tools, and dedication to achieve your goals. And when it comes to selling your services, you only want to sell them to clients who genuinely appreciate the value you provide them. We're all working it out in our own way, and that's ok too. Though most marketers will say I'm shooting myself in the foot by admiting this, I'm not here to snag you at the end with a fancy cheat sheet or some formula that I've spent years perfecting so that I can blow you away. 17.01.2022 Have you ever been mistaken for someone famous? I was once. We were travelling by plane and an air hostess kept staring and staring at me. ... I smiled at her and eventually she came over and asked me if I was a particular name. After correcting her she asked if I'd ever seen a particular movie. Again I smiled and said no, I'd never seen it. She told me that I was the absolute spitting image of one of the acresses from that movie. Even after I'd told her that I wasn't who she thought I looked like, she kept looking back at me and staring. My only regret, apart from forgetting what the movie was and who she thought I was- so I didn't get a chance to see for myself... was that she didn't offer me any free perks. Imagine experiencing that moment of fame, just to get the stares, but not the perks! ;) Honestly, I would never want to be famous. I quite enjoy being able to go places without being noticed!

10.01.2022 Yesterday I was in awe of my 3 year old for her ability to have a fun game of hide and seek with some rocks. She hide them all around then shut her eyes and counted to ten, then went and searched for the rocks. She declared herself the winner after finding them all, with a lot of 'thinking' and "nope not here, I wonder where they could be"s. . What a great way to be able to entertain yourself!. . So, this morning I'm looking everywhere for my handbag. Not in any of the 3 ...usual places. Office. Bedroom. Kitchen. Nowhere. . Check again. Office. Bedroom. Kitchen. . It's got to be in the office. I remember carrying it there. Nope. Desk is clear. Not under the desk. Not on the shelves. Too big to be hiding under the paperwork. . Check once more. Office. Bedroom. Kitchen. . No time to keep wasting. Gotta get the munchkin to school. Ok. So at least the car keys weren't in my bag. I can get her to school. Where did I put that dang bag? Did one of the kids drag it somewhere? . When I get home I decide not to stress about it. It will show up somewhere. Oh maybe it's under the lawn chair that's temporarily set up in the lounge. I was sorting things out there yesterday. Nope... Not there either. . Gee I hope I didn't accidentally put it in one of the garbage bags as I was sorting stuff out. . Don't panic. . Get some work done. Ok right. I'll go to the office. . Oh look. There's my bag. Right under my desk... . Did fairies put it there? Was someone playing a trick on me. Is the cat strong enough to drag it? . Nope. It was just under the opposite side of the desk than I had been looking all morning because that's not the side I usually put it under.... . See, I can play tricks on myself too. It's great getting older- you get to do stuff you only thought the really young could do! . It's not a bad line, but it doesn't have the same ring to it as: You're about to go on the journey of a lifetime, with nothing but a few words and healthy dash of imagination. ... Engaging wording is why MLM vitamin salespeople don't "sell" you their "product". They engage you with their triumphant personal journey until you're interested enough to ask how you can experience the same exciting and fruitful life that they are living. A life coach isn't someone who gives you ideas to improve your life. They are your inspirational partner, cheering you on as you becoming empowered to set free the best you that you can be. Your babysitter is not just someone who comes around and takes care of the kids for you. They are the source of refreshing relief that you feel when you can take, not just a moment, but a whole day, to explore new connections with your spouse and create new memories together. 04.01.2022 I am a writer. But I'm not a marketer. To be completely honest, I hate marketing myself. I don't like the hussle and the push to sell, sell, sell. ... I just love to write. And I'm good at it. It's my passion, and it's a passion that is backed up by education and decades of experience. Yesterday another business women made a post on a facebook group I'm in. She had a few lines for her "About Me" page and was asking for some feedback on it. Instead of providing feedback, I simply rewrote it. Since then I've been getting a constant stream of notifications from people liking, loving, or commenting about what a magician I am to be able to transform just that short piece of text into something amazing. The poster commented to say it was "1000 x better" than what she had written. Yet I framed it all around her key words and style still, so as to keep it authentically her. Because that's just what I do. I take words, and I turn them into winners. And this stream of positive comments about that little job has given me a boost that I didn't even realise I needed! The hard part for me is working out how to package that. So I'll be putting my thinking cap on and working out where to go to next. Well, when I have a moment in between other life priorities ;) My freelance services have let me dip my toes in the water on a wide range of projects and with a broad number of clients. In addition to the one off tasks it's landed me a few regular jobs, particularly with my unique combination of tax and writing skills. I'll always be grateful for that, and thankful for the clients who have given me an opportunity to try out some new directions. Now it's just a question of... where to next?
