14.01.2022 Army Museum South Queensland is located at Victoria Barracks on Petrie Terrace in Brisbane. Home to Army Museum South Queensland, the historic precinct (near Caxton Street) provides a unique glimpse of Australia’s military history from the colonial era, through two World Wars, to the present day role of the Australian Defence Force. The very popular tours of the Barracks will re-commence in March 2021. A new exhibition of interest to all ages will be Sport in Army and will ...include specific artefacts relating to the Army's involvement in a variety of sports. The first Rugby League Cup played by interstate teams in Bouganville in 1945 gave its name to the State of Origin. All visits to Victoria Barracks must be by prior arrangement. Bookings are essential for individuals and groups and COVID 19 restrictions will apply. For more information please visit www.armymuseumsouthqueensland.com.au, email [email protected] or phone 0429 954 663.

07.01.2022 The Morrison Government is delivering on its commitment to address the unacceptably high rates of suicide among Australian Defence Force members and veterans. The National Commissioner will have powers broadly equivalent to a Royal Commission, but will be a permanent office that can continually monitor the implementation of its own recommendations to ensure long-term solutions are delivered, while also being able to examine new issues which may arise over time. The National C...ommissioner complements the existing role of Commonwealth bodies which may consider matters connected to an ADF member or veteran death by suicide, such as the InspectorGeneral of the Australian Defence Force, Comcare, and the Commonwealth Ombudsman. The National Commissioner’s role is intended to complement, and not duplicate or replace, the role of state and territory Coroners. There will be a four week consultation on the Bills which will inform the ongoing refinement of the legislation for consideration by Parliament. Further information about the consultation process is available at https://www.ag.gov.au//national-commissioner-defence-and-v, including information for any person who may require assistance to make a submission. Please consider submitting any feedback you may wish to provide on the Bills to the Attorney-General’s Department by 24 September 2020. Submissions can be provided by email to [email protected] or by post at: Attn: National Commissioner for Defence and Suicide Prevention Taskforce Robert Garran Offices 3 5 National Circuit BARTON ACT 2600
