24.01.2022 OPEN DAY - 100 YEARS The 100th Anniversary of the Colac RSL is this Thursday 1st July & the venue is hosting an Open Day from 11am. A huge thanks goes to the work of our memorabilia committee who have spent time putting the historical display together for this momentous occasion, which shows the history of the Colac RSL over 100 years. ... We have some wonderful history on display and look forward to seeing lots of people from the Colac & district community coming along to visit us and take a look around. We encourage any and all interested community members and will enjoy listening to stories that you might enjoy sharing with us as you view the various items of memorabilia that is on display for this celebration, which we are so very happy to be able to have on Thursday. We will cut our celebration cake for afternoon tea from 3pm, and members of the public are invited to join us, so come along and bring a friend or two!! (Numbers are subject to current guidelines). 23.01.2022 Colac RSL was excited today to open their doors for a cuppa & sandwiches after the Remembrance Day Service this morning. Although, with COVID restrictions our numbers were limited, everyone enjoyed catching up & having a chat.

In conjunction with MIXX FM & 3CS we planned and recorded our service which runs for around 24 minutes to be broadcast on ANZAC Day. For anyone standing in their driveways, the service will be broadcast from 6.05am on both MIXX FM & 3CS radio stations, so you dont need to miss out on listening to it. Memory sticks have been distributed to the nursing ho...mes here in Colac. 13.01.2022 COLAC RSL Sub-Branch is urging people to donate to the ANZAC Appeal online Colac RSL Sub-Branch is encouraging the public to donate to the ANZAC Appeal online this year as restrictions around non-essential travel tighten in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Colac RSL Sub-Branch President, Brian Lloyd, said Australians have been purchasing ANZAC badges from RSL volunteers in the lead up to ANZAC Day for almost a century. Buying and proudly wearing an ANZAC Appeal badge ...is as much an ANZAC tradition as attending a Dawn Service. If this was a normal year, volunteers from our Sub-Branch would be out and selling ANZAC badges right now in support of the annual ANZAC Appeal. However, 2020 is not a normal year, and Victorians need to stay home to help limit the spread of COVID-19. Our RSL is doing its bit, and our volunteers will not be fundraising this year. Instead, we are asking our community to support the ANZAC Appeal by making an online donation at anzacappeal.com.au. Its very safe and secure, and its easy to do in just three simple steps. Money raised through the online appeal will go where it always has to fund vital services for veterans and families, Brian Lloyd said. RSL Victoria State President, Dr Robert Webster OAM, said that COVID-19 had increased the need for the RSL to raise funds to support veterans and families. Dr Webster said Many veterans are doing it especially tough. Theyre struggling with social isolation, physical and mental health problems. The longer this pandemic goes on, the more acute the needs of our veterans become. Even though we cant physically stand together, it is still a chance for each of us to reflect with gratitude on... the sacrifice of those serving now and of those who have served before us. To commemorate this Anzac Day, we ask you to share your images, or the images of a loved one, with us, showing Armys mateship and comradery. These stories will be compiled to form part of our Anzac Day video this year. Keeping within the COVID-19 safety guidelines (currently in place throughout Victoria), we are offering dine-in service to limited numbers. Our meals are available to takeaway, and now in conjunction with Colac Taxi Service we are also offering home delivery of meals. Also, following the positive response to our mini-raffle last Friday we will once again be running the mini-raffle, to be drawn after 7pm tonight. ...You do not need to be in attendance to win, just ask some of our lucky winners from last week, who received a call informing them of their win. 04.01.2022 Today, the 11th of November is Remembrance Day, a special time where we remember those who bravely served their country and risked their lives in WW1. On this day in 1918, the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare, and each year we take a minute of silence in commemoration, to remember those who fought for our freedom and the sacrifices they made. We are forever in their debt.

02.01.2022 Just in time for ANZAC Day last week, I was honoured to announce that Colac RSL Sub-Branch Inc. would receive funding under the Restoring Community War Memorials and Avenues of Honour Program to fund their Colac Memorial WWI Name Update project. The project will install a new marble plaque at the 1925 cenotaph which will include an additional 69 names of those who served in WWI missed on the original honour rolls at the memorial. Our RSLs are a huge part of our local communit...y. Supporting them is one of the most important things we can do. Congratulations to everyone involved!
