In the charge the final phase of the all-day Battle of Beersheba members of the brigade stormed through the Turkish defences and seized the strategic town, enabling British Empire forces to break the Ottoman line near Gaza on 7 November and advance into Palestine. 21.01.2022 From 4 yrs old to 84 yrs, we had a great turnout at our working bee today. The Gardens are looking a treat and will be at their peak for Remembrance Day. A big thank you to all those volunteers who make this a true community garden.

19.01.2022 ODE OF REMEMBRANCE The bugles may be silent, but our hearts still beat and the tears will roll. Unfortunately this year we cant gather together to commemorate ...Anzac Day with the last post, but we can pay tribute in other ways. Council has been working closely with local RSL members to come up with different ideas of observing Anzac Day. Macclesfield RSL has developed a pack which contains activities and projects for families to participate and learn about Anzac Day at home. Please download your kit from https://www.mountbarker.sa.gov.au/discover/tourism/events It is important we all show what it is to be Australian and pay respect for the people that sacrificed everything for what they hold dear says Mayor Ann Ferguson. You are still welcome to lay a wreath and pay your respects at one of the local memorials, but please visit them throughout the day and respect rules of social distancing and gathering. To participate on Anzac Day: 5:55am Families gather in driveways and out the front of their houses; 6:00am Tune in to Hills Radio 88.9FM or listen online http://wordpress.hillsradio.com.au/index.php/hrlistenlive/ The Last Post will be played followed by one minute of silence. Recite the Ode of Remembrance from the poem For the Fallen: They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.

18.01.2022 This Remembrance Day join us the Garden for our commemorative service @ 10.45am. Will you pause for a minute ?

17.01.2022 "L/Cpl. Denis Kevin Cosgrave. MR. AND MRS. COSGRAVE, of Macclesfield, have been notified that their second son, L/CPL. DENIS KEVIN was killed in New Guinea on O...ctober 13. He was born at Macclesfield 24 years ago, and was educated at the Sisters of St. Joseph Convent school, where he was a much loved pupil. Like his elder brother, PTE. THOMAS COSGRAVE, who died of wounds in Egypt, he was loved by old and young alike. Both were members of the sports clubs of the districts and were honoured for manly and friendly play. Above all, they were loyal to their school and faithful to the Church, and were altar servers for several years. Denis enlisted in March, 1941, and went overseas in April. He served in Palestine and Syria, was wounded in Syria, July, 1941, and returned in February, 1942. He then served in New Guinea and was home on leave in February of this year, returning to duty early in March. May his soul reap the eternal reward of the supreme sacrifice which he has made." - from the Adelaide Southern Cross 05 Nov 1943 https://vwma.org.au/explore/people/597828
