24.01.2022 How do you get buyers hooked for a sale? For me it’s not about the hustle, it is showing the person I’m talking to my passion for writing that story. I tend to joke a lot on this channel but if you have met me then you know writing isn’t just something I do. It is a part of who I am. I’m a person with a disability and multiple other conditions that impact my disability. My daughter has the same disability and by age 12 no longer wanted to read because she couldn’t identif...y with the mc anymore. Previously I had had a international poetry career, because of my daughter I wrote my first book. For me, reading always allows me to escape reality and travel to places I have always dreamed of visiting. It’s a bit like Dr Who-anywhere in space and time. I don’t just want to write and self publish, I want to make a change in the lives of my readers. Inspiring a new generation to be the person that they know they are...why do you write? See more

24.01.2022 We're all in this social isolation together...contradiction much?? Many of us have children and are trying to wrap our heads around teaching not to mention having the family home 24/7. Hands up who's writing is suffering because of corona virus? Me. I've written about a thousand words in the two weeks I've had my family home. I've been talking about patience and kindness on my other channels today it's all about balance and awareness. Our normal has changed and so has the... way we have to balance our work and personal lives. For me this means giving my daughter the attention she needs through out the day and finding time to write after 10 pm. Scribbling phrases down on a notebook as they come to me throughout the day and working on them during those hours. It means focusing on what is truly important and prioritising appropriately. Awareness comes into play when I really have a passage of writing tripping through my brain and can't pump my music in the same room as the school area. Common sense dictates I use a head set. Don't stop writing..don't ignore your family..find what works for you and get that next scene out of your head. Be safe and keep healthy. Hopefully you have enough toilet paper lol See more

22.01.2022 I don't have 23 WIPs...but they've all got titles, covers, back stories, partial drafts and book videos for YouTube.

22.01.2022 Ever come across a really cool world that you would like to use in a piece of writing? (eg the one below) My question is would this word actually make your writing stronger or would it confuse your readers further? I was told once never use a fancy word when something simple will do the job. Sure, I can see the point that repetition can be tedious but why use something that no one knows (except for those who swallowed an oxford dictionary). Solipsism...cataclysm...cynicism. Maybe I'm a little out of touch but words no one understands and descriptive passages a mile long makes me slam a book shut. Where do you stand on this?

21.01.2022 One for all the poets out there...how to use current events to create humorous material.

21.01.2022 When being a prepper and planner gets in the way of your actual writing you know you have some issues. Ever gotten right into your research following all the tangents and clues until you've forgotten what you were doing in the first place? All guilty parties please raise your right hand. I do it. Often. Sometimes this addiction leads me onto further information I never would have found if I didn't like digging deep into my subject matter and unfortunately this is also ...a time waster. My current project has led me through some twists and turns until I know that if I don't stop reading about it I will never actually produce the book. Put down the internet people. It's ok to use your site of choice to write in but avoid opening up another window for anything. Trust you have enough material to understand where your characters are coming from and how they might be feeling. Blast Spotify or music streaming service of choice through your headset (dedicated playlist for book of course) and just write. The words don't have to be great. The story line doesn't have to make sense. Grammar doesn't need to be perfect and who cares if you forgot to double space after that full stop. Single space...I'm an old fashioned typist. Your manuscript you choose. Let the story out and then all the preparation will be worth while. Ok and if it really boils down to it-don't be afraid to set a good old kitchen timer. 30 minutes of research for every 60 minutes of writing. What is your biggest time waster when writing? How could you avoid this black hole? Until next time M.

19.01.2022 It's November :) Nanowrimo is very much in action. Hands up if you're participating. If not, think about looking up Campnano. The techniques I have learnt through participating in these events have changed the way I write my books. Plan to write more than what you will actually write. My aim was always about 2000 words and my output would be 800 words. It is 800 more words than yesterday. Don't despair over story line or plot holes. Write whatever comes out organically (which means don't correct as you go). The purpose of a second draft is to fix spelling mistakes, plot holes, story line screw ups and to argue with your characters in general. Take a deep breath, place your fingers on your keyboards and just type.

15.01.2022 Some helpful hints from NaNoWriMo. Check out their feed on Instagram.

10.01.2022 Ever wonder what it would be like to pick the brains of the people who run Ingramspark? I have and there will be a rep from Ingramspark at this festival. If you have a manuscript ready to go there is also an elevator pitch comp at the end of Saturday with the prize being free set up and 50 units from Ingramspark which could equate to somewhere near $500. Will I see you there?

10.01.2022 Too often I talk with young writers who don’t understand the basics of what we do. This poem breaks it down really well.

09.01.2022 This is why we agonise over every word in every sentence.

05.01.2022 It's been a long while since I posted anything here. I'm not going to apologise for that. I don't know how other writers do it but my characters personality progressions have been stuck in my head on a loop like a song on repeat with multiple variations. Every time I find a piece of gold the track loops into the next variation leaving me once again frustrated with the book I'm working on. It's a historical fantasy that has three main characters, 3 sub characters, 1 nasty... villain who is subtle piece of work and countless other characters as cast members. I'm researching everything from just before the Fall of Troy to the present era. I've agonised over everything from which parts of history to focus on to what angle to write this book from. While I'm not actually doing much writing I have laid down nearly 20,000 words in the first draft already. So three sisters equals one part of the book apiece mix in some dragons, an mc club and some phoenixes...eventually I'll work this out of my head. Hope everyone else's writing is going much better.
