03.01.2022 July 29 1917 West Perth GP Dr Joe Holland is called to the post office to consult with Fred Tuckett, the postmaster at Halls Creek. Stockman Jimmy Darcy has been crushed by horse and is in bad shape. He needs emergency care guided by Joe using morse code and performed by Fred and his pocket knife. Makeshift surgery performed, Jimmy is still at great risk and will need further medical care from a trained physician. In 1917, there was no Royal Flying Doctor Service which coul...d perform an emergency evacuation in hours. Instead, Joe travelled 26 days by cattle ship, model T Ford, horse and foot from West Perth to Halls Creek on his mercy mission to save Jimmys life. Hear about the events as they unfolded over those 26 days and how they became a catalyst for Australias iconic, Royal Flying Doctor Service. This one-night-only show will be performed by Dr Joe Hollands grandson, former ABC newsreader, Peter Holland.

02.01.2022 Up to $2500 scholarship for student placement program We have teamed up with WA Centre for Rural Health (WACRH) to encourage health science discipline and nurs...ing students to apply for the Rural Health West Student Placement Scholarship Program. The scholarship aims to provide students with financial support to undertake a clinical or community placement (minimum of two weeks duration) in the Midwest and Pilbara regions. Successful applicants may be awarded up to $2,500 depending on placement location, type of placement and availability of funding.
