15.01.2022 If it’s unexpectedly quiet and you’re a permanent employee, you can’t be sent home without pay because there isn’t enough work. Your boss can only stand you dow...n in some circumstances, depending on your situation. Under the general Fair Work Act provisions, your boss can stand you down if you can’t usefully be employed because there’s a stoppage of work which they reasonably can’t be held responsible for. This generally doesn’t include a decline in business but may include: * an enforceable government direction that requires the business to close * a large portion of the workforce being required to quarantine resulting in the remaining employees unable to be usefully employed * a stoppage of work due to a lack of supply which your boss can’t be held responsible for. You should check your award, enterprise agreement, employment contract and any workplace policies, in case they have different or extra rules. The rules are also different if your boss is giving you a JobKeeper enabling stand down direction. We’ve got more info about being stood down due to the coronavirus on our website: https://coronavirus.fairwork.gov.au//stand-down-during-cor
