23.01.2022 Our last clinic was rider focused, this time it’s horse focused. By creating a healthy way of going we can improve our horses comfort, willingness, flexibility and strength and most importantly the muscle memory to move correctly without relying on artificial aids to hold a frame. The morning session will be a series of progressive exercises to incorporate ground poles into your routine to encourage your horse to move using their body correctly and completely force free. The ...afternoon session will be flexible intensives that give attendees the opportunity to learn to ride the patterns that will help you and your horse develop balance and rhythm or spend the afternoon honing your groundwork skills in smaller focus groups. Two arenas, two round yards and an open learning space will be set up with different levels of difficulty to cater for riders and horses of all levels. Attendees will receive a take home pack of the exercises to work on at home. Cost is $150 for the full day with a light lunch and morning and afternoon tea provided. Deposit is required on booking please message Rusty’s page to secure your spot. See more

18.01.2022 Today marks the anniversary of something far more important than Halloween. If you’re unfamiliar with the heroic events of Beersheba please take a moment to read and reflect on the incredible bravery, tenacity and courage of our light horsemen.

17.01.2022 Liberty work is an integral part of our training, riding and horsemanship philosophy here at Rusty’s. It requires putting away expectations, ego, demands and instead a willingness to accept the horses opinions and consent. Sometimes they say no and you must listen or it isn’t liberty. We use no ropes, whips, sticks, treats, bribes, flags or other coercive measures to demand participation in our liberty play. We just ask with clarity and kindness and respect the answer.

16.01.2022 So often I see owners and riders who learn here how to peacefully and calmly build relationships with horses drown themselves in guilt for not previously understanding that they can have a safe, reliable and relaxed horse without confrontation and dominance. You can’t punish yourself for what you didn’t know and the way you were taught or you negatively affect your present. Let it go, do better, be authentic and consistent. Your horse will appreciate it. Let’s light the way for a better kinder future for our equine partners.

15.01.2022 Sunny winter Sunday fun

15.01.2022 2 litres every hour. That’s a 2ltr milk carton full of acid every hour. Our stomach produces acid when we get hungry, smell food or start eating, a horses stomach never stops producing acid and without feed in their gut to soak it up, without the saliva produced by chewing hay or grass whenever they need it can cause serious damage and pain.

14.01.2022 Now the last lesson for the year is done I’d like to thank all our wonderful clients and followers for all their support during this trying year. It’s been tough for so many reasons and I really appreciate everyone who booked a lesson, supported our page and helped keep us afloat. We look forward to seeing you all back in the new year for more learning, riding and sharing our love for our magnificent horses. See you all in January! M x
