22.01.2022 A little while ago, we worked on a re-brand to give our business what we consider to be a more appropriate signature, namely RUTH. We've finally updated our Facebook Page name to align with this. We still continue to make the much loved design range of "Sustainable Stubbies" vases, jugs and drinking glasses as limited edition collections - but as we develop new alliances with architects, interior designers and professionals, we feel that 'RUTH' better encompasses all of our work.

We'd love for those around Canberra to attend the exhibition; an exquisite array of extremely clever works will be on show. The Matrix jewellery pieces are mostly created in the small hours of the night, in the quiet and under the blanket of darkness. The night beholds the most contemplative hours of my daily clock. 13.01.2022 I still can’t get over the absolutely wonderful drawings done by the children of Coburg Nth Primary School. They are all so imaginative, brilliant and wonderful. With more than 130 entries to our Design Your Dream goblet competition it made it extremely hard for the judging panel of Master glass blowers to choose the winners. Of course we did make a decision in the end and those drawings were transformed into glass over the weekend of our recent Open Studio event. They started small and as the day moved on and our rhythmic confidence grew the shapes got bigger and longer and larger and more impressive that the one before. 08.01.2022 The installation process has begun! This lighting feature, known as the ‘Splash’, grew from concept conversations with Electrolight in Sydney. The ‘Splash’ is reminiscent of a pelican landing on still water, or a dolphin diving and breaking the surface. Commissioned to create 50 large glass pieces, each being hot manipulated by a team of three, has finally culminated in this long trail of components suspended above a banquet table of a restaurant (yet to be disclosed). These components will be externally lit and glitter above the heads of guests. This is the kind of project we dream about, working collaboratively with lighting designers, the client, and our very own talented team to arrive at an end solution that will move experiential dining into new territory for the ultimate end user - the guest.

06.01.2022 From the Archive - Synergetic forms in Clear, Steel Blue, Erbium Pink and Amber. These works were developed during my Masters degree and involved a residency at the Creative Glass Centre of America, Philadelphia where we mixed and melted tanks of coloured glass. I blew blanks and then shipped them home to Melbourne to later cut & construct these forms hot. The blanks were blown tubes, some with canes wrapped around them, these canes would detail the forms with coloured dots ...or stripes. The Synergetic forms are inspired by the design science of Buck Minster Fuller. I particularly focused on the poetics of process and the language of light. Glass transmits light similarly to water , when projected light travels through the Synergetic the form casts a 3D shadow upon the 2D plane, because of this phenomena I consider the piece itself to be 4D, therefore as a whole the work speaks to the viewer in an inter-dimensional language. #contemporaryart #contemporaryartist #ruthallenartwork #ruthallenglass #hotglass #hotmanipulated #madeinmelbourne #artisanstudio #contemporarylighting #contemporarylightingdesign

05.01.2022 To start the New Year I have been revisiting earlier works knowing that they are ready to be developed further. This large installation titled ‘Environmental Stimulation’ evoked a phenomenal response in the viewer. The piece scaling 3m x 3.5m was suspended from the ceiling and rotated. 1000 watt projected light beam shone through the work casting a comprehensive 3D shadow upon the wall. The shadow was the size of your body or larger and as it rotated it displayed volume and ...depth evoking the feeling that you could simply walk through the wall. The hand made stainless steel structure supported 85 Synergetic glass forms each piece constructed and hit manipulated (approximately 500 x 230mm). They were then cold-worked & sandblasted to absorb and diffuse light. The pieces were suspended using 185 hand made stainless hooks strategically positioned upon the form.
