22.01.2022 Now is the time to be Flood Ready. A series of rain fall events are expected to cause flooding in the North East today into tomorrow. We could see rain falls of 80-120mm over the next couple of days, with the primary risk being minor to moderate riverine flooding. A Severe Weather Warning is also current with possible flash flooding and wind across the Alps. We do not expect a major widespread flood this week. 20.01.2022 Winter is the peak time for heater fires, and with people and children indoors during this time, it’s more important than ever to follow some basic fire safety tips. Drying clothes and other items must be kept at least one metre away from all heating. Children must be supervised near all types of heating. Ensure a safe distance is maintained between children and heating. Keep wood and other combustibles at least one metre from a fire. All residents should also have gas heaters inspected and serviced every two years to ensure the safety of loved ones from carbon monoxide poisoning or fire.

16.01.2022 Our very own firefighter Max Daye has been participating in the Melbourne Firefighter stair climb for a number of years now. Unfortunately this year it can’t go ahead in its normal format. Instead it is a virtual climb. Max is aiming at climbing 10,000 steps in Rutherglen over the next few weeks. We know times are tough but if you are able to please donate to this great cause. If you see Max out running up steps, give a cheer and some support.

15.01.2022 With a cold wet weekend ahead here is a friendly reminder Wood Fire Safety. Chimneys and flues should be cleaned annually.... Empty Ashes in to a metal container, and wait until completely COLD to dispose of... Don’t put ashes straight into your compost bin or on the ground near the house. If you vacuum your fire box, wait until it is completely cold, immediately empty the dust collector on the vacuum in to a metal container. Open Wood fires need a fire screen. Keep flammable items 1 metre from the heater. Don’t overload fire places and wood heaters. Extinguish open fires before leaving home or going to sleep.

12.01.2022 The Season for Celebration is coming which also means fire season

12.01.2022 Well it has been a big 24hrs with a fast moving grass fire starting on the Murray Valley Hwy just before 3pm yesterday. The fire spread rapidly with 3 homes under threat. Thankfully with the assistance of over 20 cfa appliances and private units the fire was quickly brought under control with no property or stock losses, however some crop and pasture and a large number of peppercorn trees were lost. Rutherglen and Carlyle were on scene until about 9pm last night and back on s...cene again this morning extinguishing hot spots for about 4 hrs. Thanks to those brigades and private units that helped out along with Vicpol. Sorry no action shots things were too hectic for photos. This serves as a reminder how quickly a grass fire can spread. Members were somewhat disappointed by the number of motorists who drove through the fire as it hit the highway. This not only risked their lives but also our firefighters. Please use common sense if traffic control is not is place. See more

06.01.2022 Today is International Firefighters' Day. It was instituted after the deaths of five firefighters in tragic circumstances in a wildfire at Linton in Victoria, Australia. It is also the feast day of St Florian, the patron saint of firefighters. St Florian was the first known commander of one firefighting squad in the Roman Empire. He lost his life, as well as those of his colleagues, for protecting the same humane ideas which firefighters all over the world share even today. T...oday we remember those firefighters that lost their lives in the line of duty. More information on International Firefighters Day is available by going to www.firefightersday.org

06.01.2022 Please note that as of 1am tomorrow morning the fire danger period will start with fire restrictions being in place. It is important that you familiarise yourself with what you can and can’t do in in the fire danger period by visiting the cfa webpage. There are big fines for not complying with the laws associated with the fire danger period. It is now too late to burn piles of rubbish etc. Despite some winter rain it is now very dry and the rain has resulted in a lot of fuel. Please be careful when mowing or using power tools outside. Check that your fire plan is up to date.

05.01.2022 Well done to one of our Firefighters Max Daye a mighty effort in a difficult year. Let’s hope next year it can be back in it’s normal format. You have done our brigade proud. If you would like to donate to this great cause please see the details in Max’s post.
