22.01.2022 Year 11 Geography students have had a busy morning investigating Richmond. Agriculture and Fisheries gave us an insight into how the cattle industry works. Next off to the museum and wow, what an experience. Essential services were our next stop with the doctor, fire and emergency and with a final stop to the police station and the courthouse. We got to experience what it is like to be locked up in the watch house.

22.01.2022 What a way to finish the day. Visit to Richmond City Council, then off to Allaru to play with some cattle and finally some down time at the lake and waterpark.

20.01.2022 On Tuesday Paula was presented with a certificate to recognise Ryan Catholic College as being one of the 5 inaugural schools accepted into the ICT Gateway to Industry Schools Program. The program is run by the ACS QLD - Australian Computer Society and funded by the Queensland Government under the Department of Employment, Small Business, and Training. The program encourages partnerships between industry, government, schools, and their communities to build Queensland's future information technology workforce. The program provides an important opportunity to address the significant shortfall of young, emerging ICT talent in Queensland.

14.01.2022 https://ryan.catholic.schooltv.me/newsletter/cyber-bullying In this edition of SchoolTV - CYBERBULLYING With the advent of the internet, smart phones and tablets, there is now a whole new digital dimension added to traditional schoolyard bullying. There was once a time when bullying victims were given some respite outside of school hours, but sadly these days, online bullying can occur 24/7. In today’s world, teaching your child about online and cyber safety, is as important ...as learning to swim or cross the road! Cyberbullying can be identified as being the repeated behaviour by an aggressor with the intent to harm or embarrass. Technology enables these aggressors to share information widely and quickly, making this form of bullying extremely dangerous and harmful. However, the answer is not to shun the internet nor social media. Instead, parents are encouraged to embrace it and instil a family internet policy to protect their children without limiting the freedom to learn, explore and communicate online. In this edition of SchoolTV, parents are provided with useful guidelines and advice on how to minimise the risks. Children have the right to feel safe, regardless of whether it is in the schoolyard or online. We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.

11.01.2022 Recently the RADII (Research Australia Development and Innovation Institute) Satisfaction survey was emailed to the address the college has on file for you. Thank you to those parents who have already completed the survey. The RADII survey is a very important part of the college's feedback and planning information. Your responses enable us to plan more effectively for the future to ensure we continue to provide an excellent educational setting for your child/ren. We would appreciate you taking the time to complete this short survey by Friday 25 September. If you did not receive a survey, please check your Spam folder (as they sometimes can be filtered) before contacting the college. Thank you in anticipation as this feedback is very important to us.

04.01.2022 https://ryan.catholic.schooltv.me//social-media-and-digita In this edition of SchoolTV - SOCIAL MEDIA & DIGITAL REPUTATION Social media has become such an integral part of a teenager’s life. However, many miss out on some critical social skills with most communicating whilst looking at a screen instead of another person! Statistics show that 60 per cent of 10-11 year olds are using at least one social media site, with the majority using age-restricted platforms. What kids d...o, post and say online is permanent and most are not mature enough to manage their own digital footprint. Friendships, relationships and even future job prospects are all put at risk. Parents need to be aware of what picture their children are painting of themselves online. Unfortunately, many parents do not see the dangers inherent of these sites, as they form opinions based on their own experience. But predators are usually not interested in grooming adults. Over the years there has been a dramatic increase in the number of primary schoolers owning mobile phones, highlighting the importance to teach kids about the dangers of social media and the implications it can have. In this edition of SchoolTV, parents will learn how to talk to their children about the inherent dangers of social media and how to educate their kids to be responsible users in the online world we live in. We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.

01.01.2022 Our last stop was Silver Hills today. We learnt so much about Corbett’s sustainable practice. Growing their own feed, recyclable water and chemicals and the feedlots for cattle on a large scale. We can’t thank Corbett enough for his time today.
