12.01.2022 Trams in Ryde really? I wish we had them now, sigh! Yes, from 1910 until 1949 trams ran through Ryde, from Pyrmont and Haymarket, to West Ryde. A monument and lamp post were built to commemorate the turning of the first sod in 1908.... Plans had been made to expand the network to lane Cove, Chatswood and beyond West Ryde, but did not eventuate. Helen Patterson, a long term member of Ryde District Historical Society, has had an interest in the tramways and their monuments for some time. RDHS has had a wonderful collection of photos of the trams in the Ryde District. These two have come together with an 84-page book Ryde’s tramways and tramway monuments. RDHS will launch the book at Willandra (770 Victoria Rd, Ryde) on Sunday 17 November at 2pm. All are welcome. We will be holding an open day from 11am to 4pm on 17th. For further details please contact [email protected]
