25.01.2022 Dear Parents and Caregivers, Following the success of the recent parent webinars with Dr. Michael Carr-Gregg, City of Ryde and Lane Cove Council are partnering up again to bring you another webinar on the 29th of June at 7pm.... The topic of the webinar is Demystifying Adolescents and will be great for parents of teens and those preparing for their children to reach their teens. Adolescence is the phase of life stretching between childhood and adulthood, where young people seek increasing independence from adult carers and seek to develop a stable identity. The teenage years represent a period of increased vulnerability which now occupies a greater portion of the life course than ever before at a time when unprecedented social forces, including marketing and digital media, have the capacity to affect their health and wellbeing. This webinar is a crash course in the developmental psychology of adolescents - which gives participants the skills, knowledge and strategies to understand and communicate effectively with young people. The webinar is FREE to join and open to all parents/guardians etc. Registration is essential via the following link: https://www.ryde.nsw.gov.au//List/Demystifying-Adolescents I have also attached a flyer and images that can be used to promote this webinar to your networks. Any questions feel free to get in touch with myself or Hayley from Lane Cove (ccd) Thanks, Myf Gough Head Teacher Welfare

23.01.2022 UPDATE Dear parents and caregivers As advised, Ryde Secondary College is non-operational today as a staff member has tested positive for COVID-19.... Contact tracing has commenced and the school is undergoing a deep clean. All staff and students are asked to self-isolate while contact tracing occurs. NSW Health has requested that anyone who has been unwell or develops any symptoms such as a fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of smell/taste, muscle/joint pains, diarrhoea, nausea/vomiting or extreme tiredness is tested at one of the COVID-19 clinics. Further information on COVID 19 is available on the NSW Health website: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectio//Pages/default.aspx The safety and wellbeing of our staff and students is of paramount importance to us at all times. As such we will continue to work closely with NSW Health to ensure that all necessary health advice is adhered to. We acknowledge the disruption our closure has caused for our students preparing for their HSC. NESA is providing us with advice and further information will be provided to HSC students advising of alternative arrangements. From your emails and messages, we understand you would like more information about the current situation, however we are working with NSW Health using established protocols, which take some time. We will provide further information to you as soon as possible. Please stay up to date with our Facebook page, Sentral messages and emails. Thank you for your ongoing support. 21.01.2022 Dear students and staff 2020 has been a year of enormous challenge, following the bushfires and smoke of 2019. Throughout the COVID experience, we have adapted our teaching strategies and learning and support to constantly changing circumstances. We've all become experts in google classroom and zoom, and learned a whole new range of skills during remote and blended learning. So many have gone out of their way to ensure that all our students have been supported during these ch...allenging times. Today we pay tribute, to the commitment, hard work and resilience of our colleagues in these challenging times, in celebrating World Teachers' Day. Students and non teaching staff, please join me in thanking our teachers for their amazing efforts today. A treat of coffee and cake should help today, in Café Malvina. Thanks Café team! Cassy Norris Principal

13.01.2022 Canteen re-opening from next Monday, May 11. Dear Parents, Carers, Students and Staff, The RSCommunity Canteen will re-open with a limited menu, with limited staff and for one service period only during the Phase 1 re-opening of the school, commencing on Monday, May 11.... Use it or lose it! - The Canteen Subcommittee has agreed that canteen profitability will be reviewed on a weekly basis until all students have returned to face-to-face learning at school. The canteen will close if we trade at a loss, so parent, student and staff support will be greatly appreciated. Prices, payment and tImes - Please see the menu attached. You will note there are slightly increased prices on some items to maintain profitability due to increased food costs. (Price increases range from 6-9%. Burgers and hot specials will be increased by 50c.) However, there will be no price increases on Flexischools, to encourage you all to create an account and to pre-order and pay that way. We will continue to accept payment via Flexischols, EFTPOS and cash, but would really prefer to not have to handle cash now and in the future. Cash slows down the queues. Flexischools speeds them up and helps minimise wastage. Food will only be served from 10:45am-11:45am each day (which includes recess) during this phase of re-opening. Social distancing in lines will be enforced. Ordering on Flexischools can be done from this weekend. Hot specials will change when we run out of each batch and will be updated during the week. Volunteers needed- Are you able to help in the canteen between the hours of 9:15am-12:15pm on the same day (not Friday, as we already have a volunteer for Fridays) each week for the next few weeks? You will be working with one paid staff member only. If so, please email me at [email protected] ASAP. Thanks in anticipation of your ongoing support of the canteen. Regards, Teresa Teresa Russell (President, RSC P&C Association)

12.01.2022 Dear parents, caregivers and students Students in isolation have received advice this week from NSW Health, of their recommended return date, which is 14 days from their last contact with the COVID 19 case. Students will return on Day 15. There is no need for any evidence to be provided on their return to school. Students are safe to return and not of risk to anyone after the 14 day period. This will also mean that learning from home arrangements will no longer operate after ...this week. All students are expected to be in attendance at the conclusion of this isolation period. Students returning to school are reminded to be aware of all the safety guidelines, including regular handwashing, wiping down of equipment, use of hand sanitiser and generally thoughtful and responsible behaviour in dealing with others. Students are reminded to ensure they attend every lesson and every sporting activity as required. We do need to know where students are at all times during the school day, for safety reasons. Thank you for your support and cooperation. Cassy Norris Principal
