25.01.2022 Hi, my name is Sabine, and I am on a mission. A mission to inspire and empower girls across the globe. If you know me, you know I grew up in rural Far North QLD in Australia. A pretty small town, far away from the big city I now live in. I went to school and spent my entire childhood in FNQ and only recently moved to Brisbane for University. The best way I can describe my move to the 'big city' is with two words: culture shock. Seriously, I feel like I moved to another world ...altogether. Life is the country is very different to the city and something I found that really bothered me was the lack of opportunities, as though we really were on another planet. I often felt trapped, alone, and far away from the real world. Kind of like we were in a bubble in the country minding our own business, while the rest of the world went along with their day. I didn't get really interested or involved with anything until my last couple years of high school. University was always what I imagined I would do after school but mostly because I thought that was just what you did after school - spoiler, it isn't always. But it really did get me thinking about what I wanted to do when I finished my studies and where I wanted my life to go. In all honesty, I feel as though I came to a cross roads when I was about 15 or 16. I applied for this program I didn't know much about but it looked cool, and in pure Sabine fashion, just applied and forgot about it. I got in to QLD Youth Parliament in 2016 and it feels like that was when I took my path. From then on I've thrown myself into all sorts of things that I would have never heard of if I hadn't met certain people or experienced certain things. From then on I've wondered, where would I be now if those things hadn't happened they way they did. I would never have attended this is I hadn't heard about it from them who I met at... you get the point. Well, since then, it has become my mission to give back what I accidentally stumbled on. I didn't feel empowered or inspired in high school, I didn't have a group of friends or mentors who knew how I felt or had experienced my dream job. There were gaps missing, and I want to fill those gaps. So if you feel isolated, uninspired, lost, confused and not as confident as you might like to be, I hear you. If you aren't sure what you want to do after school or if university is for you, I hear you. Empowered women empower women, and that is what I'm all about.
