22.01.2022 On day EIGHT of #16Days we call for police accountability. Too often we hear terrible stories of women calling police for help, only to find themselves in handc...uffs. Police must provide safety - not punishment - and refer women to Family Violence Legal Prevention Services so they can get the culturally-safe help they need. See more

19.01.2022 It's DAY SIX of #16Days and today we are looking at housing and HOMELESSNESS. Family violence is the leading cause of homelessness for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women - yet public housing waiting lists are years long. We need urgent investment in safe housing!

13.01.2022 *High Court Rejects Applications for Special Leave to Appeal* South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council Chair Vanessa Kickett has welcomed today's decision by ...the High Court of Australia to dismiss all special leave applications challenging the registration of the six Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUAs), that form the South West Native Title Settlement. The High Court’s decision means that all avenues for review of the Native Title Registrar’s decisions to register the ILUAs in October 2018, have now been exhausted. The decision clears the path for the conclusive registration of the six ILUAs that underpin the agreement negotiated by the Noongar people and the State of Western Australia. This negotiated agreement will resolve all native title claims in Noongar country in exchange for a package of land and other benefits worth around $1.3 billion for Noongar people. SWALSC will now begin the work of preparing for the implementation of the negotiated agreement including the transition to a Central Services Corporation and the creation of six Noongar Regional Corporations that will represent the rights and interests of the Noongar people. I am delighted that the High Court has decided today to dismiss the applications for special leave to appeal. The High Court’s decision today brings to a close five years of appeals to the negotiated agreement that was accepted by the Noongar people in six authorisation meetings in 2015," SWALSC Chair Vanessa Kickett said. Today I remember the Noongar Elders who fought so long to win justice for our people and who passed before they were able to see this day come to pass and I pay my respects to their memory and the legacy they leave for us. On behalf of the SWALSC Board, I ask the Noongar community to accept today’s decision and come together with us as we begin the nation-building task we have ahead of us. The path to date has brought many challenges, but we remain focused on honouring the vision of our ancestors, our elders and our communities, whose guidance and dignity inspire us to be strong and proud.

12.01.2022 On Day 7 of #16DaysOfActivism we call on governments to invest in culturally appropriate, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander controlled services - like our 1...4 specialist FVPLSs operating across the country. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people working on the ground in their communities are the experts and we have the solutions. Governments need to invest in our self-determined solutions to PREVENT family violence against our people - particularly our women and their children. SHARE and help keep Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women's voices HEARD this #16days #16daysofactivism2020 #EndGenderBasedViolence #SaveFVPLS #OrangeTheWorld

08.01.2022 On DAY FOUR of #16DaysOfActivism #16Days we are calling for governments to STOP taking our children. Every child deserves to be given every chance to grow up wi...th family, culture and identity. That means governments funding community controlled and driven family violence prevention services to keep women and kids safe, not tearing families apart. See more

06.01.2022 16 Days In WA Today we had morning tea at our workplace to bring awareness about 16 Days of Activism. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are 34 more times to likely to be hospitalised due family violence than non-Indigenous women. We must invest in our communities to prevent family violence. #16DaysInWA
