24.01.2022 Congratulations to Ava Bennett, Year 12 student and 2020 School Captain for being awarded a Swannie Award from the Debating Association of Victoria. The Swannie Award, named after Alan Swanwick, a long time member of the DAV and a pioneer of debating in Victoria, is awarded to the speaker in each region and grade who has the highest average speaker score from at least three debates. Congratulations Ava on receiving this prestigious award, achieved in such a challenging year.

23.01.2022 Friday Flashback As a child of the Sacred Heart, you are never alone in the world. At the end of Year 12 students receive a passport which is their introduction to any Society of the Sacred Heart/RSCJ school in over 40 countries. How many doors have been opened over the years! Here’s our new design replacing the one (seen on the right) that many of you know so well.

23.01.2022 WORLD KINDNESS DAY On this World Kindness Day, in a year of COVID-19, let us remember and celebrate the kindness that has sustained and bonded communities across the globe. It has crossed borders, connecting strangers and bonding neighbours. Kindness has been the beacon that has shone light into the darkest of days and led the way to optimism. May the kindness pandemic of 2020 be one that never experiences a donut day.... #couragexkindness #worldkindnessday See more

19.01.2022 What a glorious day in Melbourne today. Our grand old lady is looking very majestic with the sun bouncing off the slate roof. Well done to our community and all of Victoria for making this the 26th day of being COVID free.

18.01.2022 The sun is shining and we are have our 11th day of zero COVID-19 cases in Victoria and what better way is there to enjoy the easing of some restrictions within schools than by holding outdoor instrument lessons. Imagine our community looking back on this photo in a 100 years’ time we are sure they will sense the joy that was experienced by students and teachers today as the sound of music played across the grounds.

17.01.2022 As Christmas carols ring out around the school from (COVID safe) outdoor singing lessons, our Year 1 students, also known as the Delightful Dozen plus their teacher Ms Gullone, were looking very angelic with their Christmas angels. The Christmas buzz is so welcome after such an extraordinary year and is certainly giving a everyone a spring in their step.

16.01.2022 Awards ceremonies 2020 style. Live-streaming our Year 8 ceremony to our families.

16.01.2022 At 11am on 11 November 1918, the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous fighting. Today, at 11am on this Remembrance Day, we reflect and remember all those brave women and men lost during this war and in the line of duty since. This morning before our day began, we joined as a community and were led in prayer by our School Captains, Emma and Maddy.... The Ode They shall not grow old as we are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest we forget. May we all work for peace.

15.01.2022 The safety and wellbeing of our students is always our first priority; we know that it is the very foundation that allows them to thrive. After a two year accrediatation process, we are proud to announce that Sacré Cœur has achieved eSmart status. The program is run by the Alannah and Madeline Foundation, which was founded on the mission that every child should have a safe and happy childhood free from harm. We couldn't agree more.

15.01.2022 All members of our community are welcome to watch a livestream of the Mass of Remembrance tomorrow at 10am (link below). At the Mass, there will be a candle lit for each of the deceased RSCJ, alumnae and friends of Sacré Cœur. You may like to light your own candle in memory of a loved one and play some quiet music. The mass will be available to view immediately after the livestream if you are unable to watch it at 10am on Saturday 14 November.... 14.01.2022 Friday Flashback Congratulations to everyone who took part in our History Month quiz and to the two joint winners (who have now been notified). One of the questions referred to the Signal. It wasn’t a secret code or a banner but a small hinged wooden box (similar to castanets) used by the Sisters to control movements throughout the school. Students had to move in lines or ranks, led by one of the nuns no talking was allowed and the nun would click her signal to indicate when it was time to move. It was also used to signify when it was time to speak or to eat or time for recreation.

09.01.2022 Friday Flashback Sadly, the Class of 2015 five year reunion scheduled for this evening has had to be postponed. Until it’s possible to catch up and reminisce in person we hope you enjoy these photos from 2011 when you were in Year 8.

09.01.2022 The Mass of Remembrance was live-streamed on Saturday 14 November from the Chapel and is now available to view on demand. The Mass was both comforting and inspiring. At once, soothing to be back in the familiar space of the Chapel, and poignant to see it empty and to feel the distance of being there virtually rather than fully. 08.01.2022 Only 40 more sleeps until Christmas ... but who is counting? I think these excited Year 4 students are. The appearance of our much loved tradition of the Christmas tree made for an excited school earlier this month and it certainly is a reminder of the good times to come as 2020 draws to an end (and many of us are looking forward to that!).

05.01.2022 Friday Flashback This Baby Jesus is one of many treasures at Sacré Cœur. The wax doll has a family pedigree of early RSCJ history given by Reverend Mother Goetz (the 2nd Superior General of the Society of the Sacred Heart) to Rev Mother Vercruysse, who came to Sydney as the first Australian Superior. It was then given to Rev Mother Margaret Moran for Burke Road and used here for the first time in 1893.

04.01.2022 This NAIDOC Week we were delighted to learn of an Aboriginal sign language and how the students of Stuartholme School (official), our sister school in Brisbane, taught this to their fellow students. It is fascinating to learn of this ancient sign language and that it is being kept alive and taught to younger Australians. As a community, we celebrate our First Nations people who have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. We acknowledge their spiritual ...and cultural connection to this country. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #NAIDOCWeek2020
