22.01.2022 Throwback Thursday: It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. We are officially in the Christmas month and today we share a Christmas recipe from the Calen...dar of Puddings (10th Edition), Grandma’s Christmas Plum Pudding with Sherry Sauce - delicious. Who has lovely memories of helping grandma stir the puddings, the smell of fruit macerating in brandy. Our current ‘Calendar of Cakes’ also has a few Christmas recipes: Gluten free Christmas Wreath, Good Christmas Cake and a Festive Cherry and Mixed Berry Ice Cream Cake - the new book is available from the Pop Up Shop, beautifully wrapped for only $15 (a great teacher’s gift, Kris Kringle or just because). 08.01.2022 Lockdown Activity ready for Christmas

08.01.2022 Throwback Thursday: With only four more days until we open up the Pop Up shop in the Adelaide Arcade did you know that SACWA once inhabited another great CBD bu...ilding. In the minutes of 11 October 1929 we read Mrs McDonald reported having been able to secure a room at Messrs Craven & Co, Drapers, of Rundle Street, to be used as a rest room, also for our monthly meetings. J Craven & Co Ltd was a family business department store. For twenty years this graciously donated headquarters was to serve as meeting room, handicraft centre, hospitality point and haven of peace and goodwill for a generation of country folk weary of tramping city pavements. When you come into the city to visit the Pop Up Shop have a walk past the corner of Rundle and Pulteney Streets, the site now occupied by Centrepoint, and reflect back to when this grand building welcomed both metropolitan and rural members in the early years of our Association. #adelaidearcade #rundlemall #ABCRadioAdelaide # See more

06.01.2022 Pop Up Shop Update: Not surprisingly we have had a great response to the handmade face masks that we are selling in the Pop Up shop. Pop into the Adelaide Arca...de shop if you would like a beautifully made bespoke face mask. If you would like to make some for the shop or for yourself the Handicraft Committee have provided the following pattern: What you will need - Cotton fabric, a pretty print is best. - Rope Elastic, beading cord elastic will work (you may also us 1/8 flat elastic) - Cut the elastic 7 long and tie a knot at each end (DO NOT knot the ends of the flat) You can make two sizes: Adult or Child How to: 1. Put right sides of cotton fabric together o Cut 9x6 (Adult) or 7.5 x 5 (Child) 2. Starting at the center of the bottom edge, sew to the first corner, stop. Sew the elastic with the edge out into the corner. A few stitches forward and back will hold this. 3. Sew to the next corner, stop, and bring the other end of the same elastic to the corner and sew a few stitches forward and back. 4. Now sew across that top of the mask to the next corner. Again put an elastic with the edge out. 5. Sew to the next corner and sew in the other end of the same elastic. 6. Sew across the bottom leaving about 1.5 to 2 open. Stop, cut the thread. Turn inside out. 7. Pin 3 tucks on each side of the mask. Make sure the tucks are the same direction 8. Sew around the edge of the mask twice. It is so easy to make this. Be sure any fabric design is placed horizontally. Please note: This pattern was one that I felt was the easiest to make, but I did do a couple of modifications: - I used 6 1/2 inches of elastic, instead of the 7 inches in the pattern. - I made a pocket at the top of the mask (3 x 1/2) encasing a 3 piece of pipe cleaner. I added this after Step 6 in the instructions. This then allows a better fit across the top of the nose. - It has only 2 layers of fabric, so you can add another layer of fabric if you want, my step mum suggested a layer of Chux.

05.01.2022 The Pop Up Shop will officially open on Monday 9th November, 2020. We look forward to welcoming you into our shop and help you choose a gift or two. Thank you for supporting SACWA.
