23.01.2022 Day 4 of A to Z top tips for heart health: D is for Diet: A healthy diet is all about balance - remember the 80:20 rule. 80% of the time, consume those foods that you absolutely know are healthy for you and 20% of the time enjoy those other things that really are not on the preferred for your health list, but when you do, do so with mindfulness. Diet is a huge topic, and the books and advice on the subject run in the millions and much of this is controversial and ofte...n conflicting ideas based on current trends and research. I truly believe that most people absolutely know what is best for them, sticking to this knowing, and working with it, is another topic all together. For this article, I want to keep it brief. Very brief. My ideal recommendation for diet is about a SLOW diet, this is an acronym for Seasonal, Local, Organic, Wholefoods it is about moderation in the amount that is consumed and consume your foods while sitting down, in a relaxed environment. Remember also that what suits one person is not necessarily good for everyone in the overall, avoiding processed packaged foods are not really foods. Avoid deep fried foods, sugars, and refined grains which convert to sugar in the body almost instantly. The life force in the foods you consume, becomes the life force in you. D is also for Depression: it should be noted that depression is both a trigger for heart disease, and also a consequence of those who have had a heart disease event. 22.01.2022 Day 16 of A to Z top tips for heart health: Q is for Quit: the research for the perfect diet! There are over 100 different DIETS listed in Wikipedia and over 50,000 diet books available from Amazon. What suits you does not necessarily suit someone else. What is healthy for one person may not be healthy for you. And the stress created by all of the conflicting information only creates more grief and confusion. Work with a diet that suits you, is easy to follow and can be sustained for life. Q is also for Quiet: remember those quiet moments, where we can go within and reflect. Indeed deliberately find time for quiet moments meditate in the moment, where ever you are, what ever you are doing.

19.01.2022 Day 9 of A to Z top tips for heart health: I is for Inherited weaknesses: Is your high cholesterol inherited? (familial-hypercholesterolemia) this can be checked by someone who does genetic testing and it is possible to test for this amongst other possibilities. Other good test is a Coronary Calcium Score CT Scan to give you an indication of the health of your arteries. Although as Dr Bruce Lipton will tell you, your Genes do NOT determine your health: you do. By your choices, your thoughts, your behaviours, your feelings. I is also for Intuition: did you know that your intuition, is your heart talking to you? Every single living being has intuition. It is certainly well worth while learning to work with your intuition, to help promote a healthy heart.

16.01.2022 Day 6 of A to Z top tips for heart health: F is for Fibre: Remember that Soluble Fibre will help reduce excess Cholesterol in order from highest to lowest - types of foods with a mix of Fibre are: Split Peas, Lentils, Black Beans, Lima Beans, Artichoke, Peas, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Raspberries, Blackberries, Avocado, Pear, Bran Flakes, Whole Wheat Pasta, Pearl Barley and Oatmeal. As well, Flaxseed and Chia seed, however, for them to be absorbed, they need to be ground and soaked prior to eating. F is also for fear: False Emotions Appearing Real fear as with Depression, is absolutely to be avoided for good health, including good heart health. Fear, increases the release of stress hormones, and reduces the hormones for good digestion.



10.01.2022 Day 7 of A to Z top tips for heart health: G is for Gratitude: when we are grateful for what we are about to eat or drink, and consume our foods in a relaxed and pleasant environment, we can get the best out of the foods we are consuming, the hormones of happiness and gratitude work in our favour when creating a healthy heart, body and mind. G is also for Guilt: which creates stress and as has been stated previously, stress interferes with your digestion and stress is ...also dangerous for hearth health. When you do eat out somewhere, be conscious of your choices, and if you choose something from your 20% group, then eat it or drink it slowly, with mindfulness enjoying every moment of it, savour the smells and texture because the pleasure will be much healthier for you then the stress of guilt or angst about it being ‘bad’. Thereby, reducing the stress upon the body and also reducing the stress upon the heart. See more

10.01.2022 Day 15 of A to Z top tips for heart health: P is for Patience: It is important to be patient with yourself it has taken a long time to get to where you are now it will take time to get back into tip top vibrant health. P is also for Persistence: which is just as important at patience: and stop stressing out while looking for perfection. Accept that as long as you patiently and persistently work at making small yet regular changes, allow for your body to adapt to the new you, change will happen, health has no option but to happen if you give your body the chance to become optimally healthy.

09.01.2022 Day 12 of A to Z top tips for heart health: M is for Meditation: this is really not as difficult as it sounds, it can be as simple as being in the moment, being mindful about this very moment in time, rather than allowing the stresses, anxiety and worries of life to overtake you. Take those moments of time that you are doing the Breathing exercise to meditate. M is also for mindfulness: this is a type of meditation that has become popular over the last few years. This is because it has shown to be extremely beneficial for good heart health and reducing many other types of illness and pain reduction. Mindfulness is simply a process of being aware of or in the moment and doing so without judgement of what is going on, what you are feeling, thinking, sensing. Simply a matter of being here and now - fully.



08.01.2022 Day 17 of A to Z top tips for heart health: R is for Relaxation: this is different for everyone, some folk relax by chilling out listening to music, others, relax by going to a Zumba Dance lesson, others mediate on the breath, others walk in nature, ‘forest bathing’ or grounding themselves by walking barefoot on the grass, the sand and the surf. Taking time to relax, allows those stress hormones to settle down and gives your body a time to repair and rewind. We are... not designed to be constantly running from danger. Whatever that perceived or real danger may be. Relax and reflect on what is good and great in your life. Even in the midst of chaos, beauty can be found. R is also for Remembering: to Chew your food digestion starts in the mouth, take the time to sit down to eat your meal and eat it in a pleasant environment. Chew, chew, chew, - if possible, chew until it is liquid! Somehow, by taking the time to chew, we end up eating less and digesting our food better. When you eliminate your stool should NOT have whole food within it. If you do not chew the food sufficiently then the essential nutrients you are aiming to get out of eating nutritious whole foods, will be missed. So remember more chew as the local Chinese medical practitioner would say. Chew, chew, chew. See more

07.01.2022 Day 14 of A to Z top tips for heart health: O is for Omega 3: There is a lot of conversation about Omega 3 for a healthy heart, brain and eyes, and is also the main reason for eating some small oily fish a couple of times of week however, if you are not that keen on oily fish, then Omega 3 enriched eggs or flax seed oil is an option. Allergy, Vegan or simply don’t want anything fishy? ... You do not need to miss out on these healthy fats. Alternatively, regularly using flax seeds, chia seeds, or a supplement such as (Alpha EFA from BioCeuticals which is healthy fatty acids derived from Sea Buckthorn) will be just as good. With the various internet search engines, it is easy enough to find the various sources of good and healthy fats. O is also for Optimal Health: Most of us know what is good for our optimal health, be it our heart, brain, or any other part of our being human. So, you need to ask yourself, do you love yourself enough to look after your health? Most of these simple little tips for heart health, all go towards bringing you into optimal health.

06.01.2022 Day 13 of A to Z top tips for heart health: N is for Nutrition: preferably our nutrition comes from our diet sometimes our diet is not enough - At those times: supplements are needed. In the ideal world our nutrition does come from a healthy diet a varied diet, one with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. As was mentioned in the top tips for heart health in the comments about diet, our ideal diet is SLOW Seasonal, Local, Organic Wholefoods, that are consumed w...ith mindfulness and gratitude, in a pleasant, peaceful environment, plenty of chewing, and preferably seated at a table. Our digestive juices need to be flowing so that the nutrition that the foods supply can be absorbed and assimilated from those foods. N is also about Nerves: The impact of your nervous system on the nutritional uptake from your foods. Your diet can be the very best that money can buy, but if you are busy being stressed, it will not do you much good. In the late 1980’s a book was written by Dr Dean Black, which mentioned a study on three different diets and the nutrients that were absorbed from this diet. (Unfortunately, it was one of those books I lent to someone!) However, from what I recall, in the study divided into three groups: there were two extremes and one moderate one ate only junk food, drank only soda drinks and naturally had zero nutritional intake from their diet. The other extreme were a group of people who were very fussy with their intake, checking every ingredient, refused anything that wasn’t 100% organic, concerned about how things were cooked, and so on. This group also had zero nutritional intake from their diet. The reason being, they were far too stressed about getting ‘it’ right, that their bodies were too busy pumping out stress hormones and their digestive juices (required to aid digestion) were not being produced. The group that received the most nutrients out of their diet, were those that ate in moderation, they stuck to that 80:20 rule that was mentioned before. They were happy to enjoy their food, and were eating in a relaxed manner, even if they were at a party or function where food was being consumed. Think about it! 05.01.2022 Day 10 of A to Z top tips for heart health: K is for Kidneys: your kidneys impact directly on blood pressure, and blood pressure impacts upon the heart. Your healthy heart diet and healthy stress levels helps keep your kidneys healthy as well. K is also for kindness: being kind to yourself, and NOT getting pissed off with other people, events, or even yourself, will also do wonders for keeping your kidneys and your consequent blood pressure healthy.

03.01.2022 Day 8 of A to Z top tips for heart health: H is for Heart: our heart health is also about the emotions yes, our diet absolutely has a lot to do with it: however, also STRESS be it physical, environmental, chemical, social, or emotional. This tip in particular is to create an awareness, about a broken heart known as (Takotsubo) which comes from a wide range of emotional and psychological stressors. These may be a sudden event, such as the death of a loved one, or ...a long term stressor, for example, an ongoing conflict with a relative such as a demanding, critical mother-in-law. To date, I have met several people who have been hospitalised with Takotsubo, they have all been women. In each instance, in all respects women you would think look healthy and well, no weight issues, non-smokers, non-drinkers, they participated in regular exercise, their cholesterol levels were good, even their physical hearts were good. Yet, when the high stress and grief entered their lives or reached a peak: they ended up in hospital with Takotsubo. A very real and potentially deadly condition. H is also for Happiness, a happy heart is a healthy heart, it radiates love and gratitude. Remember that it is not possible to feel unhappy and happy at the same time. 02.01.2022 Day 11 of A to Z top tips for heart health: L is for Love: who and what you love is a very important component of a healthy life and thereby a healthy heart. It is super important to interact with other human beings, if you have no one around, then go and volunteer somewhere where there are other people. If you are not that keen on people, then volunteer at an animal shelter, or community garden to connect with other lifeforms instead. Do you love your heart, life and... body enough to look after it? L is also for Laughter: it has been said, that laughter is the best medicine, there have been some amazing stories told about people were had been told they only had an amazingly short time left to live, they gave up their job, their bad relationship and took out time to enjoy life and laugh, only to end up much later realising that they were still alive and not only that. They were very well indeed. All because they took time to love life and laugh.
