23.01.2022 Injury prevention talk with the Beerwah swim team. The average swimmer does 1.5million shoulder rotations per season. Every swimmer needs to be proactive with their mobility and strength to prevent injuries. We spoke about shoulder mobility, scapular strength and being open and honest with your coach about injuries. 20.01.2022 Exercises for your shoulder. I usually begin with the shoulder blade and work out to the rotator cuff. I start with the elbow close to the body then move it further away into unstable ranges. The band I'm using is very light. I think most people use too much resistance. 1. Row 2. External rotation 3. External rotation at 90deg 4. Internal rotation at 90deg... 5. Band abduction I give these exercises to swimmers, paddlers and throwers. Kneeling plank on medicine ball The focus always begins with the shoulder blades. That is the foundation on which the rotator cuff attaches. I think we often move too quickly to theraband exercises such as external and internal rotation exercises. 11.01.2022 Here is a simple idea to help your posture. Try sitting with your palms open. This causes a slight external rotation through the arms which stretches the pecs and moves your shoulder back. 05.01.2022 We see a lot of hip flexor injuries with @sunshinecoastfirefc Prevention and rehab requires strengthening the hip flexor in its lengthened position. When we sprint the trailing leg is driving through powerfully and that is when injury occurs. Initially avoid trying to stretch a sore hip flexor and let it rest until you can exercise with minimal pain. Then start this simple exercise. If you get pain back off and do a basic lunge instead....
