25.01.2022 What activities do you do to connect with your student? Share some of your ideas so other host families can do them too. Take some selfies during your activities, they're always a good reminder of what you've done together. Here's one of our host Laura and her student Sia exploring the beautiful Adelaide Botanic Gardens.

24.01.2022 'We took our 3 Vietnamese school boys to the River Murray for a long weekend houseboat trip. Despite the wintry weather we had a wonderful time on the river, north of Renmark. The boys experienced some new Australian things, like bushwalks, collecting wood, open fires and outdoor cooking as well as board games (when it was raining outside) and singing around the campfires. It was a really great time and thoroughly enjoyed by the whole family.' Thanks to Henry and family for giving these students this awesome South Australian experience.

18.01.2022 Last night the International Student Services team hosted our Term 4 Homestay Workshop. It was our first face-to-face homestay event since Term 1. Our presenter, Madhavi Nawana Parker, gave an inspiring presentation on living with teenagers and how to support their social emotional literacy. She also gave some simple strategies and ideas to build resilience. So important for our students, most of whom are facing a second year without seeing their families. Congratulations to our Lucky Draw winners: Ron, Paul, Luke, Dean, Lourdes, Liz and John. We hope you enjoy your Entertainment Digital Membership or one of Madhavi’s books. @positivemindsaustralia

16.01.2022 Keep safe everyone

15.01.2022 Steven from Vietnam shared his experience with us what life was like during lockdown! "Cooking is the most funniest thing to do during 2 days lockdown. During that time, we managed to get through by making some food, especially Asian food, which is where we come from. Also, before lockdown, we bought a box called Donuts maker. This allowed us to be creative and actually to kill time and had some fun. Due to the restriction of not going out even for exercise, we watered the ...plants in our backyard and took care of them to get some fresh air, otherwise, it is going be very, very difficult .... Anyway, we had a very good time in this bad period of 2 days. Although we could not go out to have a walk, to have coffee or have dinner at the local restaurants and catch up friends, we thought it is quite enjoyable. To finish this up, just wanna say thank you to all the medical staff, workers, police, teachers... out there to keep South Australia safe with Coronavirus." See more

03.01.2022 'Given the challenging and uncertain times were in, I thought Id share some homestay happiness. Steven celebrated his 19th birthday last week with a BBQ with friends from school (Hamilton Secondary College). What a wonderful and polite bunch of young people who couldnt do enough to help clean up. Im just so impressed. In true Aussie tradition he chose a cake from the Womens Weekly birthday cake book which his homestay cousin baked for him. They all had a great evening ...singing, eating and laughing. They even serenaded my neighbour with some Adele (she loved it). I can also confirm international students love curried eggs and the good old traditional Australian philly cream cheese with sweet chilli sauce. I know Stevens parents are worried sick about him and I expect the rest of the parents are the same, so it was great to see them relaxing for a bit.' Thank you to homestay Luke for sharing these great photos with us, and providing outstanding support to Steven and his friends. Happy Birthday, Steven! This is a great example of how our homestays have been going above and beyond to care for our international students during this challenging year. What sorts of things have you been doing to support your students? We'd love to hear about them!
