25.01.2022 More pictures form this week's Sail Paradise Regatta.

25.01.2022 Had a great Sailability day today, we took approximately 80 clients out on the water. All our volunteers were kept busy making sure that our clients had a correct fitting life jacket and got on the boat of their choice safely and enjoyed the day. Its great to be able to take people in their wheelchairs straight into our pontoon boat Freedom. It can take 3 wheelchairs and the wheelchairs are locked into place where they are safe and it also takes 5 mobile clients plus 2 crew. If you have a group of clients for Freedom please ring me Diana 0531049774 so we can make sure you are not disappointed. It goes out every 40 minutes from 9am onward to early afternoon depending on how busy we are. Happy sailing Di

24.01.2022 Lovely meeting the wonderful people from the Queensland Community Foundation and other hardworking Grant recipients. Thank you very much for the $5000 given to Sailability, Gold Coast that will be used in provide Safety courses and equipment.

24.01.2022 We had a lovely day yesterday taking our clients out for a sail, and next Tuesday is our last Sailablilty day of the year. Our first day back is on Tuesday 19th Jan when we hope to have our dinghy’s sailing as well as our yachts and Freedom our very popular pontoon boat.

24.01.2022 I think this little plaque is very apt, we all love being out on the water, wind or no wind. And one day we will be back bigger and better than ever, we just have to be careful and look after each other at present. Cheers Diana

24.01.2022 Pictures from Australia Day at Sailability - Thanks to Lori Clements for the pictures.

24.01.2022 Hi all, for the next 6 weeks Gold Coast Council will be undertaking kerb and channel work in the street in front of SYC Hollywell between Monday2nd March and 15th April 2020 from 6.30am - 5pm. Therefore very limited parking for volunteers, I suggest car pooling if you know other local volunteers. clients can still drive in to SYC Holywell for drop off then move vans into other streets close by. It a bit of inconvenience but the council are being very understanding and will have a lollipop Person to direct parking It will be much better when it all completed so a little pain for a big gain. Any queries re car pooling please ring Diana Hunt 0431049774.

22.01.2022 Hi everyone, firstly may we take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very Happy New Year and hope that you have had an enjoyable break. Just to let you know some Sailability dates for volunteers and clients. Maitenance day for volunteers is Thursday 9th January commencing at 8am, in time for a coffee or tea and a catch up chat. We would appreciate the support of as many volunteers as possible to make sure everytning is ready ie 303's cleaned, trailers serviced e...tc, plus sailing practice on 303's.. Tuesday 14th January is our first Clients sailing day for 2020, so it will be all systems go as usual from as early as 7am for set up. We appreciate your assistance as usual.

22.01.2022 There has only been 2 sailing days since we started back due to the weather, but we needed the rain but maybe not so much at once. Sometimes some of us go for coffee an Runaway Bay if sailing is not on, so we can at least talk about sailing as we get withdrawals, but as I tried to drive there from Paradise Point the roads were beginning to flood so had to turn back, but as I only have a small car, I was trapped, so safest thing to do was to drive up a driveway that was on a slope. Then 3 more cars had to do the same. The owner was very helpful with towels and shelter. I got a lift home by a local with a 4 wheel drive then went back 4 hours later to retrieve my car. Thank you to friendly locals that helped other locals in trouble.

22.01.2022 Its with a heavy heart that we said good bye to Alan Stevens our committee member and Secretary. He was well loved and sadly missed. Your not here any more Your not here any more... we cant believe it. Spoke to you on Sunday And your gone on Monday. You are not alone on your journey, as you have taken a small piece of us with you. We will cry because we miss you, but also laugh when we remember Your funny sayings and comments. Your kindness is well known, always finding a way to help clients and volunteers to resolve a problem and enjoy their day. We will always have a picture of you sitting at the top of the jetty watching over everyone, and holding court with who ever passed by, as we know you will be holding court in heaven. Good bye and catch up again in the future, with love from your Sailablilty family. Written by Diana Hunt Sailablilty committee member and close friend of Als.

21.01.2022 All our boats were very busy today, coming and going constantly, we had about 84 clients and about 47 volunteers to we were all kept very busy which is what we like. Next Saturday 26th 9-12 am the Runawaybay library is have an expo of sports and things to do locally. We will have a stall outside the library with one of our dinghys rigged up to demonstrate what we do, so come along and check out all the stalls and say hi.

21.01.2022 Even though it was cloudy and looked like raining we had a good sail on Spirit. It was gusty and so we healed over which these clients love but if they didnt like the excitement of healing over we just let the wind out of the sails a bit so they are comfortable and enjoy the sail . We had a lovely letter sent to us from 12 year old Saige who hadnt been before and was a bit anxious. Her hand written letter said, Dear all the staff at Sailability, ... thank you for always helping people disabled, and giving me jobs. Bob told me that you all were excited to see me today. You are all so nice, when I got to Sailablilty I felt overwhelmed, but then I didnt because of you, thank you for not making me overwhelmed any more, sailing is so much fun. from Saige See more

20.01.2022 Sailablilty lined up for the blessing of the fleet held today at SYC, it remained sunny so better that expected weather. Thanks Peter Board for your great commentary always giving great comment about Sailability. Ben our President and his partner Louise enjoyed the day as did we all. Ronnie assisted Bob Kahl On Snooks 11 and Hope was decked out in all the sailability flags we could find.

20.01.2022 Guess who, somebody isnt getting sunburnt today.

19.01.2022 Today we had our volunteers honing their skills in sailing and the best way to do that is to race against each other. We had 6 303s mostly with 2 people in them sailing and Ross Mann coaching and timing them from the dock. We had 2 clients sail also who have very little movement in their hands, but with the help of joy sticks and any other improvised equipment that will help them, they too can, and want to race and not just sail. If you wish to participate you need to come down early around 8am to assist in rigging the yachts then coffee and biscuits, and when finished assist in de rigging, this way you know what the different sheets are for and how to rig your yacht safely. We are usually finished about 12 pm. If you are interested please contact us on Sailablilty Gold Coast FB or [email protected] for more details.

18.01.2022 Hi everyone, dont forget our first sailing day for 2020 starts next Tuesday 14th January, all our boats are ready, cleaned and polished, radios checked, so now we need fine weather and plenty of clients and volunteers to start the year of well. The bbq boys will be back on the job and they can always do with some help. We welcome some early starters 7-8am to help set up the tables and gazebos, rig up the yachts etc. Client sailing starts at 9am. So we look forward to wellcoming everyone back plus new volunteers and new clients.

18.01.2022 We had a very successful Sailability GC fundraising fashion parade, last Thursday, which raised $2,300 to go towards the maintenance of dinghy’s and yachts etc. Thankyou to all our friends and volunteers who contributed to our raffle prizes of which we had many. Thank you Vicky the PPBC office manager for organising a great venue for us and the food was beautifuly presented by the restaurant. Our models did a great job of showing off Sorbet dress shop clothes so thank you Tracey, Kim, Pamela and Carmel And our young DJ Jai McMahon ( my grandson) for providing some background music. It was a very successful night, thank you, Di Hunt

18.01.2022 Alan Stevens, was at the Runawaybay library today and stated that it gave us the opportunity to show what we offer for the disabled members of the community. We had a dinghy fully rigged and a manikin in a sling to demonstrate how we transfer clients safely into our dinghys and our larger yachts.

17.01.2022 Today was our first volunteers social day of the year. We all got together for an Australian Day lunch and an option of having a half hour ride on Freedom. We motored along the Broadwater, and around Sovereign Islands and back. Some of us got wet feet but it was very enjoyable, thanks to our skippers Peter, Mike, and Ross plus crew. Thank you Ronnie and Alan Tayte for organising this day and Im sure it will be an annual event.

17.01.2022 Ben Noonan, a paraplegic volunteer who dedicates his time to sharing his passion for sailing and basketball with the Gold Coast Community has won $1000 thanks to Coastal Dental Care. Ben was shocked to learn he had scored the cash prize after being nominated on the myGC.com.au website for the Coastal Dental Care Gives Back To Volunteers competition. As a volunteer, you dont expect to get recognised, but thank you so much, this is awesome! Ben is vice-president of Sailabili...ty Runaway Bay a volunteer organisation that assists people of all-abilities to get into sailing. I love being connected to the community and giving back, he said. Its so rewarding to see how much happiness you can bring to someone when you take them out for a sail on the Broadwater. Theres nothing like it. Ben also plays wheelchair basketball and volunteers his time to help run the Roller Blaze Wheel Chair Basketball club. I also love sharing my passion for basketball with students. We take the wheel chairs out to schools so students can experience just how quick they can manoeuvre around the court. The Coastal Dental Care Gives Back To Volunteers initiative is just one of many ways Coastal Dental Care supports the local communities. 16.01.2022 Thank you to the Gold Coast City Council for the grant which enabled us to maintain and re paint our yacht Hope. She looks really smart now and matching her sister ship Spirit. Thank you also to The Boatworks for the continued support in maintaining both our Yachts.

15.01.2022 On Saturday November the 14th, Peggy held a craft market at her complex at Hope Harbour, and raised $750 for Sailablilty GC it was a great effort to organise and run this event and took a lot of hard work on her part plus her daughter and friends that helped. We really appreciate your effort and look forward to taking you out for a ride on Freedom one day thankyou again. Best wishes from Ben Noonan (President ) and Di hunt and all at Sailablilty.

15.01.2022 We had a very successful Sailability Xmas party for volunteers at the Paradise Point Bowls Club last night, 92 people attended. We had great food and Phil Landon kept us entertained all night plus we had raffles and an auction held by Peter Board. The profits of these gave us $500 for Sailability Thanks to all those who helped make this a great success.

15.01.2022 Today we took approximately 70 clients plus there carers out on the water, we were very busy as a lot of our regular volunteers, mostly ladies were away and being women we all we can multi task, and of course the men did a great job too, so it was all hands on deck and we made a great day for our clients. Thank you Lyn our OOD for changing a lunch date to help out today, you never stop smiling even when you are being hassled re clients, yachts, crew etc.

15.01.2022 Hi all, please come along and support this Christmas Craft Fair, details below. 11.01.2022 Important Notification, Sailability Gold Coast. Tuesday sailing activities to be suspended until further notice From Sailablilty Gold Coast Re Corona Virus (COVID-19)... In light of the unfolding situation with the COVID-19 virus, and with the clear duty of care to our members and volunteers, our clients and our clients carers and carer organisations, a decision has been made to suspend Tuesday sailing activities at Hollywell on the Gold Coast until further notice. Beyond our duty of care, there is a genuine mutual affection between volunteers, clients and carers and with the Corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic changing daily and appearing to grow, we could not condone any activity that might expose anyone of our colleagues, clients, friends or family to any possibility of contracting the virus or any other related condition or complication. The situation will be continually monitored by Sailablilty Gold Coast, and regular updates will be posted on Facebook, text message and members emails and newsletters. All enquires should be directed to the President Sailablilty Gold Coast- Ben Noonan Email [email protected] or 0421487330

10.01.2022 Today was a great training and racing day. Volunteers and clients can come to SYC Hollywell and learn how to sail and race our 303 dingh's. Racing improves our skills and makes us better skippers so we can take clients out with confidence. You need to arrive early around 7.30 and rig up your dinghy, not just jump in a boat and sail, as rigging also helps you understand how the boat sails. Then we have morning tea 8-9 with a talk from Neil about the race. I believe there was some sly coaching from the dock as all the dinghys have radios. So if you are interested, come along next Thursday and have a go. Its great to see empty wheelchairs on the dock, thats the aim of Sailablilty, freedom on the water. For more information about this or any other Sailablilty day please ring me, Di Hunt 0421049774

10.01.2022 Happy international volunteers day to all our amazing volunteers who give their time, expertise and caring help, week after week to assist in helping our clients have freedom on the water, you are all amazing.

10.01.2022 Nat, enjoying his ride on Freedom on Australia Day.

09.01.2022 We took 2 lively brothers and their Mum out for a ride on Freedon our pontoon boat last Tuesday, they had a great time. We can only take clients by appointment via our email. [email protected] due to our covid safety rules. Or contact Diana with any questions.

09.01.2022 Our clients Xmas party is on Tuesday 10th December, we will have complimentary food and soft drinks and Santa Clause arrives with gifts for all the clients, so please put your names on the list at Tues or Thurs at Sailablilty or contact Diana 0421049774 as we need to know numbers for catering purposes. This will also be our last sailing day of the year, sailing will only be held up to 11am So we can all pack yachts away and enjoy the party. We recommence Tuesday 14th January 2020

09.01.2022 This is our new hydraulic Pelican hoist, a great asset for both our clients as it is easier to apply and attach, so they feel comfortable and safe and also a great bonus for our volunteers who now just press a button instead of manually winding up the manual winch, it is portable so we trolley it down and attach it to the dock and its ready to go, then return it to our shed and charge it up for next time. Thank you to Greg Wright for looking into the best winch for our need...s and sourcing it for us. It was an expensive item but well worth the purchase. Today we took 70 clients plus carers out on the water, with the help of 50 volunteers. The weather was good early, but we all got a little wet later on and made use of a bag full of Bunnings ponchos that we keep just in case the weather changes. For more information please ring Diana 0421049774 or email [email protected] See more

06.01.2022 Great sailing day today, the last of our 303s being put away after a busy day and of course our support boat is there ready to help until the last boat and client is home safely off the water. Some other excitement was watching the New Zealand Yacht Olympic team who are training out of the SYC Hollywell for the next 2 weeks.

There was plenty of party food, bbq and hot chips for everyone thanks to the support of our wonderful volunteers. This was the last sailing day for this year. We will resume again on January 14 th 2020 and look forward to seeing you again.

05.01.2022 We had a great first day at Sailablilty today, quite warm but a lovely breeze on the water. Spirit our yacht was taken out of the water and scrubbed thanks to Boat Works, and also had a new paint job as well, so looks sleek and goes faster. We had about 58 volunteers and only about 45 clients, so hope to have more clients next week.
