25.01.2022 MacKillop Family Caring Through the Ages MacKillop Family Services has shared a story about couple Steve and Hiedi who have been foster carers for just over a year. Hiedi said:... My maiden name is MacKillop and my grandfather often spoke about the family connection to Mary MacKillop, which our family is very proud of. When I started to research foster care agencies, information about MacKillop Family Services providing foster care in our area came across my Facebook page and Steve and I joked it was a sign that the time was right for us. 25.01.2022 New Café in Good Hands Featured in The Southern Cross newspaper - Adelaide is an article about the new High Street Cafe located at Mary MacKillop Precinct, Kensington, SA. As stated in the article:... Mick Beech is certain that his wife Tammy-Lee is looking down on him as he embarks on a new business venture running the High Street Café at Mary MacKillop Precinct, Kensington. And he reckons St Mary MacKillop is right by her side. Tammy-Lee (Tammy) died four years ago on October 5 after a short battle with lung cancer. "People think you’re a bit weird but since Tammy has gone to heaven there’s been things happening and I think one of the things she’s been able to do is to line up this café," said Mick. There’s just been a lot of stuff, even with our kids, that’s happened, and for the better. I think she’s got really pally with Mary MacKillop up there. 22.01.2022 The Other Marys: St Mary of the Cross MacKillop and The Venerable Mary Ward On Friday 4 December 2020 at 10am Rome time, the Australian and British Embassies to the Holy See are hosting a webinar on 'The Other Marys.' As stated on the Australian Embassy to the Holy See website:... Melbourne-born Mary MacKillop founded the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart in the 1800s to work ‘wherever there was a need.’ Mary Ward was a sixteenth century Yorkshire woman, born at a time of conflict for Catholics in England, who, inspired by the Society of Jesus, devoted herself to active ministry. The two Marys were both pioneering women of their time, forging new ways for women to live the religious life. The event will look at their lives and missions, and reflect on their legacy for women today. 21.01.2022 Birth of Father Julian Tenison Woods Today (15 November) we celebrate the birth of Fr Julian - Saint Mary MacKillop's dear friend and founder of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart and the Sisters of Saint Joseph, Lochinvar. Mary was nineteen when she first met Fr Julian and they shared a dream of educating children in the knowledge and love of God and through education, providing them opportunities for their future.... Mary valued Julian’s spiritual guidance and they worked conscientiously together in Penola and in Adelaide both in South Australia.Like Mary, Fr Julian had such a sense of justice and charity and so they based their work on respect for the dignity of all people. "(Fr Julian's) name will be held in affectionate remembrance. A Saul in stature, but a child at heart, God was his science, God's love all his art." 20.01.2022 Reflection: A Woman with a Heart Full of Trust Mary MacKillop wrote in 1883: "When I could not see my way God kept my heart full of trust to make all come right."... Mary MacKillop was a woman who had great trust in God, believing that God would provide whatever was needed in all aspects of her life, be it food for the orphanages, money for the building of the convent, strength to face opposition and false accusation or a way through a difficult situation. She often reminded her Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart that ‘God’s work does not depend on any of us’. She had a wonderful confidence in God. 05.01.2022 Advent Today (Sunday 30 November), marks the beginning of the season of Advent. As Sr Maryellen (Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart) says:... "For us Christians, the anticipation of the birth of Christ in the season of Advent resembles our childhood experiences. The word, Advent, derives from the Latin adventus, which means coming. While it is a period of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus at Christmas, it is also a reminder of the Second Coming of Christ... As we move into this coming Advent season, may we capture the excitement and anticipation of the child as we prepare for the birth of Jesus in our hearts and in the world around us." 03.01.2022 World Kindness Day Today (13 November) we we are reminded to look beyond ourselves and see what we can do for others. Saint Mary MacKillop is a great example of a person who looked beyond herself - she was all about helping others and never spoke ill will of anyone, showing kindness to all those she met. She also expressed kindness in her letters to family, sisters, other religious, students and friends.... We pray to give and embrace kindness to and with all those we meet In the words of St Mary of the Cross: "Put kind constructions where you can, and where you cannot, be silent."
