25.01.2022 (OFFICIAL PETITION) Dear Friends, Help make a difference.... With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia. Let our Government know that faith and worship needs fair consideration in the 'roadmap for reopening'. Sign & share the below petition so that our places of worship can open safely and fairly. We are not asking for special treatment - just equal treatment. People of faith deserve equitable treatment. However, it is important to also involve our parents and grandparents in this as they may not have access to social media or internet. For this reason, please ensure everyone makes an effort to get our older generation involved in this and help them sign the petition! https://www.equalityforfaith.com.au/ The link can also be found in the Bio.
24.01.2022 Hat tip to John Loukadellis!
23.01.2022 Message from Archbishop Makarios of Australia concerning International Youth Day Today is dedicated to the youth; to the most active and creative building blo...ck of any society, to the most beautiful and fragrant blossom that adorns the garden of humanity. It may seem trite but we must repeat it at every opportunity: Our young people are our hope for the future. With this admission, comes a great responsibility for all of us: Firstly, to listen to our young people; to listen to their anxieties and to share their concerns. And then to try and meet their needs and, at the same time, to generously offer not only the material but primarily the spiritual provisions that will be useful for them to create a better world than the one they receive. In other words, we have a responsibility to give them their space in the present world. The space they need and the space that they deserve. Personally, from the moment I arrived in Australia, I have prioritised to direct the focus and resources of our Holy Archdiocese to provide support and spiritual guidance to the young people of our community. Through a series of initiatives, we have tried as a local Church, with our local Bishops and priests, to reduce the distances and break down the barriers in order to bring the new generation closer to the way of Christ. We have tried to inspire the new generation but we also rely on the enthusiasm and joy of our youth. So, on the occasion of this International Day, I feel the need to reaffirm my confidence in the youth and to pledge that their voice will always be heard in the Holy Archdiocese of Australia. Our Church will always have her arms open to embrace them with affection, to empower them, to give them the space they need, to give them a say and a role for the future. Above all, to give them Christ.

14.01.2022 On Thursday 17 September, FOCUS UNSW held its annual Forum at St Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in Mascot. FOCUS UNSW had the honour and blessing of welcoming ...His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and His Grace Bishop Emilianos of Meloa, Vicar General of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia for our event, as well as Reverend Fathers from across Sydney. The theme of this year's forum was 'Ethics, Morality & the Orthodox Church'. First, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios spoke on "Christian Ethics: A Movement from the Self to the Other". His Eminence emphasised the importance of the true Orthodox Ethos - the need to move from the self to the other - and the importance of selfless Christian love towards our neighbour in this movement. He further stressed the importance of living a virtuous life to the formation of the ethical person and the significance of God's transformative love for us in this formation. Following this, Dr Philip Kariatlis presented on "The Church and the Freedom of Morality", delving into the seemingly paradoxical and yet inextricable link between freedom and morality within the context of our Orthodox Church. Finally, the Revd Fr Gerasimos Koutsouras examined the idea of "Morality in the Modern Day", considering epistemological shifts from modernity to postmodernity and how emerging ideologies impact the concept of what it means to be a moral person. We express our most heartfelt thanks to His Eminence Archbishop Makarios, the Revd Fr Gerasimos Koutsouras and Dr Philip Kariatlis for their thought-provoking and insightful presentations. We also express our thanks to His Eminence Archbishop Makarios and His Grace Bishop Emilianos for their loving dedication to and focus upon the youth in our Church. Further, we would like to thank the Very Revd Fr Athanasios Giatsios (chaplain of FOCUS UNSW), for his steadfast support of our fellowship and his blessing to hold this event at St Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in Mascot. A wonderful event and evening! Photos courtesy of Eirini Alligiannis.

12.01.2022 For Orthodox Christians, the Church services are at the centre of our lives. In the sacred act of praise to God, we are consciously and unconsciously transformed into what we were made to be. The Divine Liturgy is that sacred act of worship where we commune with God personally and are taken up to celebrate the heavenly banquet feast in the age to come, which is the union between God and Man. Specifically catering for young families, youth and english speaking parishioners, all are encouraged to come to Church and celebrate the Divine Liturgy in the language of their own hearts.

So why not attend a live lecture for an hour or so with other Orthodox Christians from all over Australia? The Information below, as shared and hosted by St Yopomoni Family and Friends ministry, will direct you to the Zoom talk. God bless https://www.facebook.com//a.105322227984369/124351279414797
