25.01.2022 ICYMI Anna Henderson our 2020 outbounder currently on exchange in Cremona, Italy , just wrapped up her week long takeover on our Instagram account! As well ...as vicariously eating a lot of pasta via Anna's posts, some of our highlights of her takeover were hearing about: - the flight from Australia to Milan with 24 other exchange students and the excitement of their impending adventure - one of the best parts of exchange! - being introduced to the best gelato shop in Cremona by the 'oldies' (gelato is always a highlight, right?) - the welcome sign Anna's classmates made for her on her first day of school. - the amazing bond Anna made with her host Mum during Italy's three-month lockdown....and her host dog Titan! Our bonds with our host-dogs always run strong, but no more than when you are stuck at home together for months. We know the lockdown wasn't easy for Anna (or anyone) but we love knowing she had Titan by her side to help get her through it. - the three and a half months Anna spent living with the wonderful Tellaroli/Bicelli family and the amazing trips they took her on over the Italian summer so she could truly experience Italy. - the new friends Anna has made all over the world - from Finland to South Africa! Rotary truly connects the world . - hearing Anna's advice to embrace all opportunities and say YES as often as you can, be open and give new things a go. A great lesson for life. Thank you so much Anna for taking us on your exchange journey for the past week. We loved every minute of it, and we love to see your smiling face and incredible positive attitude, even as Italy heads back into a covid lockdown again. We are so proud to have you as part of the Rotary Youth Exchange family for life! A huge thank you to The Rotary Club of Stanthorpe for sponsoring Anna, and your continued support of Rotary Youth Exchagne in Rotary District 9640 and Rotary Youth Exchange Australia. Next up for our Instagram takeovers we have Lily Taylor who is currently in Denmark! Lily will be taking over Instagram from 8-15 November. You can follow along on our Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/rotaryyep9640/ If you're not on Instagram, we'll do a wrap up post here on Facebook too. #rotaryyouthexchange #rotaryconnectstheworld #rotaryyouthexchangeaustralia

15.01.2022 Identify your club in your communications: Rotary clubs around the world are mobilising to fight #COVID19. Make sure your club gets recognised for its efforts t...o keep our communities safe by using your club or district logo in all your communications. If you dont have a logo, you can create one using the logo template on the Brand Centre. The Rotary club or district logo comprises the Masterbrand Signature plus the club or district name. 14.01.2022 A lot of Clubs will be usually video conferencing to keep in touch - below are some etiquette rules for us to follow so that our meetings are enjoyable for ever...yone - Thankyou Evan Burrell - Rotarian Physical distancing has encouraged us to find new ways to connect with one another. One way that some people are maintaining a sense of belonging and a healthy social routine is through the use of technology. Video conferencing platforms such as Zoom and Skype are enabling us to continue our Rotary meetings with members, share our ideas for projects and continue cultivating our relationships in the wake of COVID-19. But its not always easy to know the social etiquette behind online gatherings. Creating the space for everyone to feel welcome is such an important part of inclusive participation, so Ive helped translate that into the digital world. Here are the top tips. Share them around; I hope they help! 1. Hit the mute button if youre not talking This gives whoever is speaking the space to be heard. 2. Wave at people as they enter the chat A friendly wave and a smile is a non-interruptive but welcoming way to greet people as they enter the video chat, especially if someone else is already speaking! 3. Be kind to one another This one probably seems a bit obvious, but its important to recognise that some people are more confident with technology than others and for some, your gathering may be their very first. Be patient, gentle and kind. But probably dont blow kisses 4. Tap your ear if you cant hear someone Theres a high chance that someone might forget theyve muted themselves at some stage, so a gentle, non-intrusive way to remind them that theyre muted is to tap your ears. Hopefully, they wont think youre initiating a game of Charades. 5. Raise your hand if you want to speak If there are quite a few of you on a video chat and the conversation is booming, it might be handy (scuse the pun) to raise your hand when you have something to say. A bit like an invisible talking stick. 6. Prop your screen up in one spot The last thing you want to do is cause your fellow video-buddies some sea-sickness by moving around too much. We recommend propping up your phone or laptop in one spot so you reduce the amount of motion and hopefully avoid seeing these kinds of faces looking back at

09.01.2022 Applied Field Experience (AFE) highlight: Cora Lavin, Class XVII Peace Fellow at UQ Cora did her AFE at the UNESCO Bangkok regional office, working within the d...epartment of Social and Human Sciences (SHS). Her role included helping with the creation and organization of the Together for Peace Regional Dialogue on the role of education in building a Peaceful and Sustainable Future in Asia-Pacific. She collaborated in researching and writing the background paper provided to participants of the dialogue. The paper includes background on UNESCOs previous work, the major concerns impeding peace in the Asia-Pacific, and what has thus far been successful in each context. This paper will be used to help inform the recommendations created at the dialogue, which aim to highlight UNESCOs work that can be upscaled and other flagship projects UNESCO can focus on in order to use education to build a sustainable and peaceful Asia-Pacific. Additionally, Cora was in charge of youth outreach and engagement for the project. She created a social media campaign, including videos highlighting youth in the Asia-Pacific who have worked towards peace. The videos were used as a way to connect to youth and launch a survey asking youth how education has influenced peace in their context and what barriers need to be overcome. Cora hopes to continue to work with youth, enabling their voices to be heard on topics including education, peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and sustainable development. I would like to express my gratitude to Erika Yague, one of my cohort XVII friends and colleagues who supported me in finding this opportunity, along with Sue Vize, UNESCO Regional Adviser for Social and Human Sciences in Asia and the Pacific, who was an incredible mentor and gave me the opportunity to work with members of a great team. To hear more about Coras AFE and the amazing work done by all of the class XVII fellows, please join the Rotary Peace Fellows Seminar on April 4, 2020 https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/rotary-peace-fellowsseminar

01.01.2022 Stay in touch with each other! It is clear most clubs have chosen not to meet as usual so now what? There will be some members who are experiencing isolation so... this will help them overcome that. Others might be stuck in their homes and may need a helping hand and after their substantial Rotary service to others, it would be great to give that help. And others just want to stay in touch, have a chat and feel included. This is not a short-term crisis so lets help each other so we all come through stronger and more unified than before. Have a look at this resource for some ideas : https://www.rotaryoceania.zone//guide-to-maintaining-engag
