23.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE We are still open and here to help you We are now a non-contact consulting Vet clinic, which means our front door is now locked. If you require any food or medication either prescription/ preventative for your pet, please call the clinic on 3277 8620 and we can get this ready for you. We will be doing all payments over the phone as this will minimise excessive contact between different people during this isolation period.... We are now implementing some new rules based on Government and World Health Organisation recommendations to limit the spread of Coronavirus. Please let us know immediately if you have recently visited our practice and may have contracted the virus. The following is a summary of how the Salisbury Vet Surgery will be operating until further notice. Thank you for your cooperation! We are commencing Non-contact consulting (30-3-2020). When you arrive for your appointment, please call our clinic on 3277 8620. We ask that you please wait in your car and one of our nurses will collect your pet from you in the carpark. Our nurse will take your pet through to our vet, who will then call you while examining your pet. Please adhere to social distancing recommendations and stay 1.5m apart from others while waiting. Appointment scheduling frequency may be reduced to accommodate the additional time needed to ensure we are keeping you safe. As we have always done, we will never turn away sick or injured pets. Please be patient with us at this time. Cash payments will no longer be accepted. We would prefer to do Card payment over the phone, however if this is not suitable for you our EFTPOS terminal is portable. Please be assured we clean our EFTPOS terminal with appropriate disinfectant before and after every person has used it. We take your privacy very seriously, and will never store or save any credit card information you give to us. These guidelines may evolve and change in time and may become more stringent as the knowledge gained by the research into the spread of the virus increases, and if the situation in Australia worsens. 22.01.2022 This is Scooter a 12 year old spoodle, who is currently on 4Cyte to help with his arthritis. Scooter has been on 4Cyte for a month now and his owner has noticed a huge improvement in his mobility. We want to ensure that your pets continue to receive essential medical treatment. To do this we are introducing a few measures to protect our team and clients: If you are unwell, or have potentially been exposed to covid-19, and your pet needs to visit the clinic, please phone ahead so we can plan for a drop off or initial phone con...sultation. Please adhere to the recommended social distancing measures and avoid handshakes, and where possible maintain 1.5m distance between people. If your pet is on long-term medication, please check you have adequate supplies and call the clinic if you do not, so we can order in stock. Where possible please limit the number of people presenting your pet to just one owner. Please phone ahead to order required prescription medicine, repeats, food, worming and flea control in advance so we can arrange to have them ready for you without the need to wait. Please use the hand sanitiser located on the reception desk before using the eftpos machine We are working hard to ensure we can continue to provide complete veterinary care. 20.01.2022 Pet of the week How cute is Toffee!! She was in the clinic the week getting her monthly Cytopoint injection. Just like people dogs can have allergies as well, this is called Atopic dermatitis which is hypersensitivity or over-reaction to different substances in their environment. This can be triggered by different grasses, dust mites, fleas, pollens carpets, shampoos, mouldsinsecticides and other allergens in the environment.... Toffee was very well behaved today!! We cant wait to see her back again in a month for another Cytopoint injection

20.01.2022 Pet of the week How cute is Matty he's a 10 year old staffy x that was in the clinic getting a pentosan injection after having a cruciate surgery done at the start of March Pentosan injections are used to promote new cartilage formation, improve blood supply to the joints, limits cartilage deterioration and it treats all the joints at the same time. Pentosan is done in a course of 4 injections once weekly and then a booster injection every 3 or 4 months.... If you any questions please give the clinic a call on 32778620

20.01.2022 This is Benjamin a 7 year old chihuahua He has been getting regular Synovan injection for the past 2 years and his owner has noticed a huge improvement in his mobility. Benjamin gets monthly injections during the winter and 3 monthly injections during summer. Before starting the injections he didnt really want to play with the other dogs at home and he was very stiff in his legs. Both Synovan and Pentosan help to aid the treatment of non-infectious, inflammatory joint disea...se that is an injection that must be administered by your Vet. A course of 4 once weekly injections is required when first starting and a booster injection every 3 4 months depending on the individuals need. Pentosan contains sodium pentosan polysulfate (PPS)which stimulates joint healing and repair. Synovan also contains sodium pentosan polysulfate(PPS) and NAG(Acetyl Glucosamine) a newly approved and more advanced form of glucosamine PPS stimulates the chondrocytes in the joint cartilage to produce good quality glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) for cartilage health and joint fluid production. This makes the joints more lubricated and it slows down the process of degenerative joint disease. Pentosan and Synovan also have an anit-inflammatory action to reduce the tendency for fibrin clots to form in the joints and this enables optimum bloods supply to flow to the affected joints. 19.01.2022 Update from our previous post Its an Ear Mite Ear mites are tiny organisms resembling microscopic ticks. Ear mites are almost impossible to be seen by the naked eye and must be detected by examining a sample of ear wax under a microscope... Ear Mites live predominantly in the ear canal as they feed on ear wax, skin debris and oils. This irritates your pets ears and makes it very uncomfortable for them. Common signs could be excessively shaking their head, scratching at their ears, thick red/brown crust on the outer ear or clumps of crust in the ear canal. Your pets ears need to be thoroughly cleaned with a pet safe ear cleaner. The Vet may then prescribe an ear medication to eliminate secondary bacterial and yeast infections. If your pet is showing any signs or you are concerned please give the clinic a call on 3277 8620

18.01.2022 This is Kirbea a 15 year old Kelpie x Staffy, who has been on Antionl rapid for nearly a year now. Her owner first noticed that Kirbea was very stiff in the legs when she would run, she wouldnt want to walk up and down the stairs and stopped jumping in and out of the car. After being on Antionl her owner noticed a huge improvement in Kirbea, she was now going up and down the stairs easier and was able to go for walks without being sore after. 13.01.2022 Arthritis Month With the weather getting colder you my find that your fur babies are a little bit slower in the mornings or it takes them a bit longer to get up and down the stairs. This is a common sign of arthritis in adult cats and dogs as the lining in their joints wears down resulting in inflammation, swelling and pain. Unfortunately, arthritis cannot be cured but we can definitely help our four legged friends out with different arthritis managements.... Weight control This is very important in managing arthritis in both cats and dogs as excess weight will put additional pressure on already affected joints, which is accelerating the progression of arthritis. Appropriate exercise Exercise strengthens the muscles, tendons and ligaments surrounding the joints, which then can provide greater support around the joints. Exercise helps to maintain normal to lean weight and prevents obesity Environmental changes Make sure you provide warm, soft bedding to help lessen discomfort and stiffness. Provide cats with low sided litter tray and help with grooming Provide ramps or easier access to your pets favourite spots Over the next couple of weeks, we will be explaining some different arthritis supplements that we offer to our clients. 10.01.2022 Lets be honest, while its extremely vital we all stay home and self-isolate during this uncertain time, were all starting to go a little stir-crazy, including our furry friends!! Try these fun games to keep your pets occupied during self-isolation: Challenge your pooch with a food hunt around the house or yard, play a game of fetch or tug-a-war, or teach them new tricks. Encourage your cat to play with some toys a ball of paper or something shiny usually does the tr...ick. Puzzle feeders and food distributor balls are toys that stimulates your cats desire to hunt and work for its food. At this stage, walking your pets outside is still allowed during self-isolation. 09.01.2022 Microchip details Have you ever wondered what a microchip looked like?? Its small like a grain of rice that holds 15 numbers. Our scanner will pick up these numbers which then gets entered in a database that shows your details. Is your pets microchip details up to date??... With the weather being very unpredictable it’s a great time to make sure your current phone number and street address is up to date on your pet’s microchip. You never know what your pet might be thinking when you’re not at home. Please give the clinic a call if you would like us to check your pets microchip details or if you need to bring your pet into the clinic so we can scan the microchip to get its numbers.

07.01.2022 Pets of the week How cute is Ko and Tiffanythey are only about 6 weeks old!! We dont usually get our feathered friends into the clinic, but Dr Joy doesnt mind treating chickens or ducks as shes always enjoyed looking after them ever since she was young. Ko had a small wound on his neck that needed to be looked at. Dr Joy has recommended keeping it clean with a betadine solution and he has gone home on some antibiotics. ... We hope Ko has a speedy recovery and we cant wait to see them again.
