25.01.2022 Do you still have the insurance in place that you thought you had? Legislation passed last year has created a situation whereby super funds may have to cancel insurance within a fund or have the fund with low balances transferred to the ATO. Given a recent spate of death’s and accidents within our circle and client base, we encourage people to check their policies are still in place to protect their families.

23.01.2022 Thanks to the panel of BSW Connect for organising a recent function at the Parade hotel Bunbury. These events allow business owners to come together and discuss matters that may assist one another. A very worthwhile business networking function

22.01.2022 As the current President of the Bunbury Business Club, it was my absolute privilege to acknowledge the extra-ordinary efforts and contributions to the club by two outstanding members at our last meeting. Well done to Jenny Wood for her award for outstanding service given her contribution as club secretary for many years. Well done to John Thomson who received the Presidents Merit award for his overall consistent contribution to the club. All clubs need members like these people. Well done and congratulations!

17.01.2022 At the recent South West Leaders meeting, we were treated to some insights into business values by John Broons, which included succession planning and challenges of operating a family business. The workshop allowed participants to reflect on their own business values. The regular panel of experts were also in the hot seat, answering questions in relation to workplace and business challenges amid the COVID environment.

17.01.2022 How much income will I need to generate for a modest lifestyle in retirement? This is a very common question we get asked frequently. The Retirement Standard produced by the Association of Superannuation funds of Australia (ASFA) suggest a couple seeking a modest lifestyle, assuming home ownership, should expect to have living costs of approx. $40Kpa. A couple seeking a comfortable lifestyle to allow for some luxuries in life is reported to require $60Kpa. Bear in min...d, when you retire, you may compliment your super income with the age pension at some point if you qualify. We have clients who are enjoying their life in retirement and are very content people living on approx. $35-40Kpa. So not one size fits all. Have you given some thought as to what your target is and what lifestyle you can look forward to in retirement? (Today’s dollars). If so, what do you have to do to get there?

15.01.2022 COVID-19: Should I take money out of Super? Given the Government response to the current economic circumstances, some people will have the ability to take some funds from their super account! I am suggesting people consider this very carefully as the question would be "is this the best time to be taking money out of an investment?" Unless circumstances are dire, bear in mind you will be selling at a low. It will take time to re-build these funds back up once taken out.

13.01.2022 Kev just completed a 7 day intensive Personal Development course in Bunbury. Thanks to Inspired Results and Justin O'Hehir and Josh for putting together such a rewarding course.

12.01.2022 Last Wednesday we completed the last session for the year, South West WA Leaders. Sallis Financial Planning graduated, along with colleagues from Laser Electrical, Tallwood Constructions and Gravity. Thank you to Iain Massey, the mentors/teachers, Emma and Jodie for putting together a very worthwhile business program and for bringing it to this regional area of WA. I recommend this program to anyone wishing to enhance their business management skills. Not to mention the other quality business people you meet.

11.01.2022 Income protection insurance simply protects your income in case you have an accident or illness, and you are unable to attend work. It covers up to 75% of your gross annual income after a waiting period, which can be 30, 60 or 90 days depending on your policy. Once the waiting period is over, the insurance company will pay you in monthly instalments and can run for either 2 or 5 years. As soon as you get better, the claim stops and the income protection payments cease. Why d...o you need it? Imagine that you have a family or own a business, and you’ve got a mortgage, bills, maybe even wages to pay, that all rely on you working to bring in necessary income to your family or business. Now imagine if you suddenly didn’t have that income. We believe this sudden loss of income would cause undue stress for you and your family. Which is why income protection is very important. It keeps your family and business going for a period of time.

10.01.2022 Such an enjoyable experience teaching a group of young adults some fundamental financial skills to help them manage their current and future financial life. It was a great interactive workshop and they educated me on what life is like for them! Thanks to City of Bunbury Library for organising the workshop. Hoping to do more in the New Year.

05.01.2022 Does my super go to my Estate when I die? I was recently asked if a persons’ super proceeds are handled by their Will? The answer is, It depends. Generally, super is NOT a will-able asset. In other words, it does not automatically go to the estate, unless the trustee has been given specific instructions for it to do so. Generally, if it is left to a spouse as the beneficiary, it is received with no tax implications. If left to adult children, or the estate, then tax needs t...o be considered. Do you know who the beneficiary of your superannuation is?

05.01.2022 It is important to set yourself financial goals as these become the driving force behind achieving them within set time periods When setting financial goals, we recommend that you follow these two easy steps: 1 Write them down, include the dollar value and when you want to achieve each one... 2 Divide your goals into short term (0-2 years), medium term (3-5 years) and long term (5+ years) Example of a short term goal going away for 2 weeks to Broome in May 2021, $5,000 Example of a medium term goal saving $30,000 for a house deposit by 2023 Example of a long term goal investing $200,000 into a share portfolio before retiring
