09.01.2022 Good article Aadam @physiqnomics .... During your health & fitness journey, of course there will be times when things just suck! .... But it’s a good thing! ... FACT: everything in your life is going to suck at some point. Relationships, friendships, your job, that hobby on the weekends that you love, and yes, even your fitness journey. And your goal is to pick something that you can bear the suck of long enough to be successful with it. Because once the honeymoon period endsand the honeymoon period always endsthere’s going to be a long stretch of suck. People misinterpret what The Suck actually is. Generally, when you hear the word ‘suck’ there’s a negative connotation attached to it. It’s also a word synonymous with discomfort. But what you don’t realise is that you need some level of discomfort to grow, and not all discomfort is created equal. This is what The Suck is: It’s that period of time where you’re doing something that’s challenging you and forcing you to grow and change. It’s giving up things that don’t serve you in becoming the person you want to become. It’s building new (good) habits. It’s changing your attitude and belief toward your ability to achieve something. The Suck ‘sucks’ because it’s the process of shedding and casting off who you are to become who you want to be. Namely, a better version of you. This is why it’s important to pick a level of suck you can bear. Because, if the level of suck is too large, it becomes overwhelming and impossible to stick to. An example would be picking a diet that forces you to eat in a way you don’t enjoy. Or, creating too big a calorie deficit that makes it impossible for you to stick to. Or, doing a training program that you dread doing every time you show up to the gym. Alternatively, if you pick a level of suck that’s at the right level for you when things get a little sucky, you can tolerate and progress through it; it becomes a soft murmur in the background. So, understand you’re going to face some level of suck during your journey. And, paradoxically, it’s a good thing. It’s a sign you’re working on something that’s changing you for the better. Simply having this understanding sets you up for success because it’s no longer ‘there must be something wrong with me/I must be doing something wrong’ to ‘I was expecting this, and it’s totally normal.’ Alright. Now go suck (just not too much).
