22.01.2022 Restoring this little white shark jaw for a client. Caught in the early 80’s, probably only 130cm to 150cm total length. Very rare to see jaws around this size anymore.

20.01.2022 Ok all so another old schoool JYAF’s fishing report here and what a great day to report. Weather looked good for an offshore trip today with wind under 12 knots... SSW and swell under 2 meters for a change. Not the best wind or tide but we needed to make up for the rained out session last time so off we went. Launching from Sorrento at 4:30am, I shot over to Queenscliff to pick up best mate Anthony and then look for some fresh bait. First stop was just off to the side of the shipping channel down from Popes Eye to try for some Wrase, however the current was still proving a fast drift and the Wrase were reefing us both with Anthony just boating the 1. We decided to transit through the rip after first light for safety and before we new it we were just down from the new Portsea SLSC in 20 down to 15 meters where we pulled a few good Wrase and Barbour Pearch on board. Next it was time to find some new gummy grounds so we decided to transit past old marks and depths in search of something new and lively. There was no real science to it, just motor along slowly on a fixed water depth, 46 meters in this case until we see interesting ground or life on the sounder. Before we knew it we had identified some rubble ground, a few humps and a load of bait action both mid water and on the bottom. We were approximately in line with Gunnamatta Beach, 46 meters deep. Water temp was 16.1 so not summer yet. After achoring the boat we pulled some more Wrase, some yakkas and some great sized barracouta. All that life spells activity and despite the low tide change we have done pretty well on low changes recently for single gummies. After the obligatory shit fish, swells, banjos, PJ’s and the like things went quiet. Anthony had a few big squid follow up some baits which we got in. Off in the distance we could see some birds and splashing, thinking it was a seal who visited us. We deployed a few burly blocks to fire up then activity again and before we knew it there was a hungry mako paying a taste test visit to the burly bag. Not really expecting this and not prepared we deployed a couta on a hook that once floated out was taken without hesitation on a heavy braided gummy rod. A short fight later Anth gaffed it perfectly at the boat whilst I gave it the old Lennox Lewis on the head and we had our first mako of the season, a little solid fatty at best guest 30-35kg it was heavy. Had some wicked scars which looked like a prop had inflicted? Anyway, teamwork and no panic saw us convert the mako which we were very excited about. So despite not grabbing a gummy, a mako is a welcome prize that was completely unexpected and well, topped off a perfect day. Hope you enjoy the summer fishing and all this climate change weather crap is friendly to us. Catch you at the ramp sometime, Justin.

06.01.2022 Got a mate who’s struggling to land a big red this season? Maybe they should have a chat with Dawn! At nearly 85 years young, Dawn frequently heads out with Ste...ve at 3am, or from 6-10pm, for a sesh on the snapper no matter the weather. A few years back, Dawn even took out a snapper comp with a beast weighing 8.9kg! Not only is Dawn a champ at catching the fish, Steve says she does all the prep, casting, rigging, baiting, cooking, and even lands the bigger fish for Steve when he hooks one! What a legend - awesome work Dawn! And thanks to Steve Atto for sharing this story with us! #target1million
