25.01.2022 A fun commission for @jimmyreid32 I first met James when we were working at Cygnet Bay pearl farm about 200km north of Broome. James was a diver and I worked doing the farm tours. We were neighbours in a set of dongas in a sand dune. It was such a simple life. Camp fire morning and night, mud crabbing and fishing every arvo, 4wd missions, bush walks and camping and barely any phone signal. We got very interested in the pearling history and discovered a lot about the glamor...ous industry that was not really glamorous at all. Slave labour, kidnapping, harsh living conditions, the bends, rape and so many died! And all for Pearls! A real eye opener. When @brannahan (James’s fiancé) asked me to create a piece for him that symbolised our time in Cyggy bay I wanted to capture these elements as well as the majestic Kimberley colours. Cygnet Bay holds a very special part in my heart. 23.01.2022 Everyone needs a little ocean potion in their life! I’m a firm believer that most of life’s problems can be cured with salty water! Dip in the ocean, sweat it out or have a decent cry! It also means we have to respect what we use to enjoy our lives as we are all connected. Take a little and give a little back From the first time I designed this piece i knew I wanted it for my first tshirt run. I couldn’t quite work out what the image was that I wanted the whale to hold (at... first it was a heart but I thought that wasn’t quite it) then I realised I was driving past the answer every day! A massive sign! Out the front of @yahoosurfboards it said the ocean is the potion and that’s where it came to be! cheers to everyone who has loved this design as much as me.
