11.04.2022 The #salvos in City of Melbourne has lost four dear friends in the passed 7 weeks that have been part of our #community . We have really had enough. It’s time for us to do more around the increase in engaging in risky behaviour, violence & loneliness. This year, we will further increase our work & focus to address these issues. We will keep you up to date with what is happening. It starts this week with the re-opening of our cafe, located at 69 Bourke St, Melbourne. The cafe ...is about so much more than food. It is about providing a safe & welcoming place for all, it’s a place to catch up with friends & it’s a place to access some wonderful supports to help people get back on their feet once again. It’s also a place to explore what it means to be fully human & fully alive. 25.01.2022 How Brendan became a Magpie - and the chaplain of the Mighty Collingwood Football Club. Learn the stories that placed Major Brendan Nottle in the right time and place to be who he is and do what he does, and discover the vital motivation behind The Salvation Army Melbourne Project 614 on Bourke Street, in new books just in time for Christmas presents, all proceeds funding 614's work with some very marginalised and disadvantaged people. Food For Thought (Barry Gittins, ill...ustrated by Oslo Davis), and Food for the Soul (Barry Gittins), published by Wilkinson Publishing. The books capture something of the excitement of living out the Salvos' mission in Melbourne's CBD, and the challenges of serving during COVID-19. Both books are available as a set for only $20 plus postage. Simply email the number of copies and your preferred postal address, to us at [email protected], and we will respond with payment information.

23.01.2022 Earlier in 2020 Melbourne was a ghost town, with many services closed. Fear was rampant. Desperate times called for desperate measures, and Major Brendan Nottle felt called to undertake a spiritual discipline - taking one meal a day to concentrate his body, mind and soul, the better to hear 'what God wants me to do, to help bring God's light back into the city'. Two new books from 614, released just in time for Christmas presents, with all proceeds funding 614's work wi...th some very marginalised and disadvantaged people. 20.01.2022 Life seems to get faster as you get older, and last year's "card days" such as Valentine's Day feel like they only just happened last week. :) Tomorrow, on Valentine's Day, 2021, those Victorians under lockdown may not have the opportunity to tell their partners, mates, friends, families, and loved ones in person that they value them and are thinking of them. We hope everyone has an opportunity to pick up the phone or send an email. TSA Melbourne Project 614 wishes ever...yone a Happy Valentine's Day and remembers the words of Saint John the Revelator, the Apostle who wrote that "Love is of God, and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God" (see 1 John 4:7,8). If we don't love others, we are yet to know God.
16.01.2022 Always be happy. Don't stop praying. Say thank you for everything, that's what God wants for you, through Jesus...... - Community members taking 1 Thess. 5: 16-18 literally ?

13.01.2022 What makes Sandra Sandra? The woman behind, beside and before her well-known partner in life and mission, Major Sandra Nottle has learnt some deeply valuable lessons in life. Chief amongst them is that we are 'called to be a light in a cold, dark place... Our family has grown to include all of 614. They are all a part of our family, and we are a part of theirs.' Learn the motivation behind The Salvation Army Melbourne Project 614 on Bourke Street, in new books just in... time for Christmas presents, all proceeds funding 614's work with some very marginalised and disadvantaged people. New books, with the brilliant Oslo Davis depicting Major Sandra Nottle, are Food For Thought (Barry Gittins, illustrated by Oslo Davis), and Food for the Soul (Barry Gittins), published by Wilkinson Publishing. 11.01.2022 New books, with the brilliant Oslo Davis depicting a much-mourned Melbourne icon, Sisto Malaspina: On a horrible Friday, the ninth of November 2018, Sisto Malaspina was murdered by a fool with a knife. One of the founders of Bourke Street’s beloved Pellegrini's café, Sisto was aged 74. He’d been a Melbourne institution since they poured their first cup of coffee in 1974. There was no reason for him to die; his death shocked a shaken Melbourne community still reeling from t...he loss of people killed by a fool behind a wheel the year before. Victoria Police called Brendan on Saturday morning once they had notified Sisto’s family Brendan and Sandra were inordinately fond of their Bourke Street neighbour... The Nottles were already in the city when Brendan received the call from the police; from that Saturday until the end of the next Tuesday, they were on the spot, talking and hugging and feeding people as they dropped flowers off for Sisto and tried to make sense of a senseless act... Food For Thought (Barry Gittins, illustrated by Oslo Davis), and Food for the Soul (Barry Gittins), published by Wilkinson Publishing, are now available to purchase. The books capture something of the excitement of living out the Salvos' mission in Melbourne's CBD, and the challenges of serving during COVID-19. Both books are available as a set for only $20 plus postage. All proceeds go to fund the work of 614. 10.01.2022 The Salvation Army Melbourne Project 614 offers a big thank you to Crown Melbourne and Crown Resorts for their ongoing, generous support. This will help us keep people hydrated and care for them throughout the year. :)
09.01.2022 When Brendan met Sandra... New books just in time for Christmas presents, all proceeds funding the work of The Salvation Army Melbourne Project 614: It was late-ish for church teenagers, about 10.30 p.m. in the last gasps of 1983, and the haunting drone of David Bowie (‘under the moonlight, the serious moonlight’) was leapfrogging with the likes of Mark Knopfler at the Northcote Salvos’ Christmas party, six klicks north-east of Melbourne’s CBD. Like young people the world ove...r, there was an active interest in who was around, what they were wearing and whether they were spoken for. Skinny or stone-washed jeans, perms and the dodgiest of haircuts, the mullet, were all the rage. There were clean shaven young men, muscles on display, and long-legged young women in short skirts, with neon-bright teeth; testosterone and sweat mingled with laughter and soft drinks. Whammy, Choose Life T-shirts, were in demand, alongside the odd Acca Dacca top or neon shirt under a sports coat, Don Johnson style. And as with any Love Story for the Ages, in the midst of this Yuletide celebration, True Love struck home with a smile. A young buck named Brendan was home from Adelaide, on his uni break, and he was holding court with his mates, chatting away while endeavouring to chat up a slim Ms Sandra Gaskin from the Brunswick Salvos... 07.01.2022 '...Leading the Salvos' Melbourne Project 614 for almost two decades, the Nottles have worked with a staff and a pre-COVID -19 team of 1,000 volunteers to help people without homes, opportunities... education or the advantages that many of us take for granted. 'Those same people (helped) are often working through psychological and mental health issues, unemployment, prison records, gambling and substance addictions, isolation, loneliness... 'They can be written off... ...' Two new books from 614, released just in time for Christmas presents, with all proceeds funding 614's work with some very marginalised and disadvantaged people. 03.01.2022 Something to ponder today: When you are on a rough sea May it be calmed for you When you are in a dark place... May it be lightened for you When your path has been lost May it be found again for you When the view is obscured by cloud May it be cleared for you And when you feel alone Know I will be there for you. A Celtic Blessing to calm Rough Seas by Iain Tweedale (Image in St Davids Cathedral of Medieval pilgrims on a boat crossing the Irish Sea to St Davids).
