25.01.2022 Week ten as Cr Bradder for Moresby Ward, City of South Perth Hello everyone, I hope that everyone is well and safe as we head into start of Autumn. It has been an overwhelming and difficult start to 2020 for many members of our community. Our sense of what is "normal" has been changed and many may be feeling that time has gotten away from us. ... What has been nice to see in these times is the sense that we are all in this together as a community. My reasons for becoming the Moresby Ward elected member/councillor is to serve and reflect the needs of the community. With that in mind I wanted to share a little more of the day and life of a local government councillor. In this past week I have attended: - A WA Local Government Association (WALGA) two day training (all day) Serving on council; - Two council briefings; - A public art advisory committee meeting, and read a lot of documents in preparation for upcoming meetings and briefings! I am absolutely loving these opportunities presented by serving on council, however I also wanted to share that it also comes with a high level of commitment and training (thanks to WALGA) in order to undertake these roles with the appropriate level of governance. I also wanted to acknowledge the City of South Perth staff for all the support they provide to the elected members, particularly the news ones like me. Finally I would like to share two links regarding the information I have shared above: 1. WALGA website for training, governance and support of Local Government - https://walga.asn.au/About-WALGA 2. The public art advisory committee of South Perth and all the wonderful public art available to see and connect with - https://southperth.wa.gov.au//finding-the-city's-public-art I hope that this update has been beneficial and I thank you for being on the journey with me. As always I would love to hear back from you all around what you might want to know around the City of South Perth, the Moresby Ward and serving on council. I look forward to connecting with you all and please stay safe and well. Thanks Sam

This TED talk is all about connection and strong relationships for a healthy and happy life. 13.01.2022 Hi all, This week is Reconciliation week and I wanted to take this opportunity to share an animation (developed by the Aboriginal Health Policy Directorate of the Health Department). It strives to help people see BOTH the impacts of dispossession AND the pathway to recovery from those impacts. The recovery can only work if it's Aboriginal led. But all of us can play a role if we listen to and follow their lead. (Words references from Tim Muirs post today). The Directorat...e have decided to make it publicly available. Please watch and share. Thanks Sam

12.01.2022 Thank you Karen Vernon, Mayor of Victoria Park for sharing this weeks WA Local Government Association (WALGA) South East Metropolitan Zone meeting at the City of Gosnells. This was my first in person meeting since my election in March 2020. It was great to engage with my fellow councillors in person. This Zone includes the Cities of South Perth, Canning, Gosnells, Armadale and Town of Victoria Park. The Chair of the Zone is the Deputy Mayor of the Town of Victoria Park Cr B...ronwyn Ife. We were also fortunate to have the WALGA President Mayor Tracey Roberts JP attend and address the meeting. The meeting was launched with a presentation on the urgent need to save the eucalyptus, followed by plenty of great discussion around advocacy for Local Government with state government. If youd like to know more about how WALGA supports Local Government or have any questions on the zone meetings feel free to comment below

08.01.2022 Week nine as Cr Bradder for Moresby Ward, City of South Perth Hello everyone, ... This week marked a big achievement for me in my role as a councillor - I was able to attend and participate in the first online Ordinary Council Meeting (OCM) for the city of South Perth. This OCM and its new online format highlighted the importance of reaching out and connecting to the community as well as encouraging people to engage with the meetings and processes of council. Please see the link to access the minutes and audio recording, should you wish to listen - https://southperth.wa.gov.au/abou/council/council-meetings I believe one of the most important roles as a councillor is to help translate the decisions and processes of local council to the community. I will endeavour to update and share council protocols and outcomes as I navigate this journey as a new elected councillor. Please feel free to make contact with me if there are any matters that you would like to discuss and I will do my very best to assist in any way possible. Thanks as always and please stay safe and well, Sam
