25.01.2022 As we come closer to our Pirate dress up day (Friday 18th September) we wanted to reflect on one reason why we are supporting this specific cause. One of our own team members has a personal connection: Not many people know, but this charity is close to my heart. At 3 years old I was diagnosed with cancer and spent a lot of time in hospital receiving treatment to fight the cancer. During this time it was hard on my family, trying to work and then also be by my side. Fortunately, they were able to get housing to stay close by when I was in hospital thanks to fundraising and donations from the community through days like ‘Talk like a Pirate’; Otherwise been close would have not been possible. -Lucinda 4 year old ECT. http://www.talklikeapirateday.com.au//samantha-s-childcare

25.01.2022 ‘R U OK? Day is today. It is a timely reminder for us to ask those around us if they are ok? The events of 2020 have seen people from all walks of life coping with ‘out of the ordinary’ situations. Today we as a team will be asking each other this important question (more than usual) and will also be specifically discussing with the children their feelings and thoughts through the use of songs, books and other resources; encouraging them to express their emotions. ... We hope that you too will ask those you speak with today: R U OK?’
25.01.2022 This week at Samantha’s, We celebrated Book Week with the theme of Curious Creatures, Wild Minds We saw a variety of characters through the week from Snow White, Bob the Builder and Dracula. The children were busy reading their stories from home as well as getting creativity making book marks and their very own story books.... Book Week is very important as reading books aloud to young children stimulates their imaginations and encourages them to understand the world around them. It is also a vital way for children to develop their vocabulary and listening skills.
24.01.2022 ‘Our entire centre, young and old, paused to remember those that serve; past, present and future. We read books and had discussions about Remembrance Day, what it means and why we stop at the 11th Hour on the 11th day in the 11th Month. We heard the entire community fall to a silence as the traffic outside our busy corner vanished for the entire minute, capped off by the sound of the Last Post. ... A truly amazing moment with the children. EYLF Outcome 2- Children are connected to and contribute to their world’
23.01.2022 In the 3 and 4 year old kinder rooms, the educators and children have come up with a simple trick to help the children with putting on their jackets. This simple trick helps to develop their children independence and wellbeing, allowing for them to feel empowered at being able to dress themselves. Try giving this a go at home.

16.01.2022 ‘Over the weekend we caught someone sneaking into the centre and placing what looked like magical packages under our tree. On further inspection we found all the presents inside the packages for the children of Samantha’s Glen Iris all ready for each of their last day before holidays. Sneaky Santa! (EYLF Outcome 4)’
16.01.2022 ‘Grace, one of our 3 year old Kinder children would like to share with you our ‘Acknowledgement of Country’ which is a part of the daily routine. This week saw the children explore aspects of culture and tradition specific to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, further discovering that we continually embed into our program and practice. EYLF Outcome 2- Children are connected and contribute to their world.’
12.01.2022 Early Childhood Educators’ Day recognises and celebrates the work of educators in early learning services for their wonderful contribution to the wellbeing and healthy development of the young children in their care; at Samantha’s Childcare Glen Iris we have a team who are dedicated to the children, families and community and today we enjoyed the celebration together, sharing food, gifts, words of affirmation and a few games
10.01.2022 What a Spook-tacular day we had at Samantha’s celebrating Halloween. Throughout the week, the children have engaged in a variety of Halloween themed activities from decorating their own pumpkin, creating lolly bags, colour and counting different Halloween objects and COVID safe Trick or Treating and playing games to scare and trick each other. There has been so much laughter in the centre and it is so wonderful to see children engaging with each other bringing a sense community and belonging to the centre.
09.01.2022 They have arrived again for another Christmas season of adventure. Gumnut and Billy have already made themselves at home in bed, climbed the Christmas decorations and even taken over as Management for a day! This hunt everyday allows children to explore the impossible, create bigger imaginations and question 'how?' in all the scenarios.' EYLF Outcome 4
09.01.2022 Today at Samantha’s we celebrated Talk like a Pirate Day, where the crew came dress as fierce Pirates. Taking part in array of activities such as walking the plank, digging for treasure, creating their very own treasure and treasure chest as well as a Pirate Themed Afternoon Tea In the afternoon, the centre was visited by some clumsy pirates who left their treasure laying around the centre.... The young crew followed the clues around the centre, looking high and low until they found the hidden treasure. A great day was had by all, to celebrate such an important cause helping support families affect by childhood cancer. It’s not too late to donate, just follow the link http://www.talklikeapirateday.com.au//samantha-s-childcare We will be announcing the winner of our lucky dip, and the total amount raised next week.

06.01.2022 This week the Kinder children participated in ‘World Science Week’ through engaging in discussions around what we know about space, reading interactive space books and watching our favourite planet song video which explores relevant facts about all 8 planets. The Kinder children have had a keen interest all year regarding all things space and this week saw the opportunity to revisit all they have learnt and explored. Through learning about space and what exists not only within our solar system but beyond the children are broadening their understanding of the world they live in (EYLF Outcome 2).’
06.01.2022 ‘Oscar, one of our Kinder children is re-locating interstate with is family at the end of November and he wanted to ensure that his fish were kept safe and loved. After much consideration, Oscar decided that our Toddler room would get great joy from his fish ‘Splish and Splash’ and so in they came. The Toddler room was very excited for their new additions and Oscar taught the younger children how to look after them and when to feed them. EYLF Outcome 2.’
06.01.2022 To grow up in Melbourne having a football team is a must and this week we all dressed up in our footy teams colours, decorated the centre in all our football posters and played footy in the yard over and over. For the children this supported skills in turn taking, following rules and creating a sense of belonging not only to their friends who share the same team, but to a greater community when they see others outside the centre in the same team colours they are in.
05.01.2022 What an exciting week it has been at Samantha’s. Everyone has returned to enjoy days of playing in the rain and sun with many children showing off their new skills learnt and others tell us of all the exciting things they have been up to including welcoming new siblings into the family or moving house. The children have shown affection for each other and the educators upon reunion in their rooms and social groups which has enabled co-operative play with new ideas flowing. ...We have spent time re-visiting previous learning and moving forward with new ideas in every room. New seeds were planted in the Kinder yard and the Nursery/Toddler yard welcomed resident crows, Bruce and Georgie’s babies to the family for which they are discussing names for. Whilst it has been a long time since we were all together, to see the children engaged and happy, you wouldn’t think they were gone for a day. Welcome back!’ See more
03.01.2022 ‘Introducing Haylee and Shruti, another two fantastic educators at Samantha’s Glen Iris as we celebrate Educators Day this week.’
03.01.2022 ‘Our children from the Nursery and Toddler rooms adore getting outside and interacting within messy play. From getting wet and sandy in the sandpit, to getting creative using different mediums such as chalk, paint and play dough. With the support from their educators, the children are able to develop social interactions and their verbal and non-verbal communication. All of this taking place alongside fostering their curiosity, imagination and exploration skills, both in the gross and fine motor domains. (EYLF Outcome 4)’
02.01.2022 WE ARE HIRING! We are looking for new educators to join our amazing team. We currently have part time and casual positions available. 01.01.2022 ‘This week our Centre has been reflecting on ‘What does Christmas mean to us?’ Very quickly the discussions became about how within our centre there is an embedment of so much more than the traditional Christmas discussions, activities and food. Some of us look forward to a time with family sharing food and gifts, others go about their normal days enjoying the lights and festive feel of the season, others have celebrations such as Hanukkah and festivals reflecting their reli...gion or culture. So, for us as a Centre, what Christmas means to us is the opportunity to share with the children that no matter the cultural, religious or social status you have, we can all have different experiences at this time of year, that we can be inclusive of all that is important to all our friends and community and enjoy it in different ways but continue to come together. As we come to the end of the year and enjoy the festive season we would love to see what Christmas means to you and your family. Please comment or send us a photo of what is special for you during this time.’
