23.01.2022 The Show Society has resolved to put next years Show, on 11 and 12 July 2020, on a clear path towards a Sustainable Show. In a first for Agricultural Shows in Queensland, stall holders and other vendors will be discouraged from using plastics for any purpose with a view to making our annual Show one where everything that arrives and leaves is fully recyclable humans excepted of course! Visitors to our Show in years past will remember the amount of rubbish left behind: th...is not only puts a huge burden on the Show Committee, the nearby community and our many voluntary helpers, but is increasingly untenable the more we learn about the importance of eliminating wastage and plastics in particular. We dont underestimate the issues that may arise, but a few examples indicate how we will manage the transition: Show bags will be made of cardboard or paper, drink and food containers will be recyclable, and a there will be a series of bin corrals around the Showground clearly marked with what can be put into them. All other reasonably practicable steps will be taken to head towards Queenslands first Sustainable Show. The Show movement around Australia is massive, and were hoping to encourage other Show Societies also take up the challenge. Indeed, the Show Society hopes to encourage the organisers of other events in the district to do the same. The task in front of us to change attitudes and practices is big, but not as big as the mountain of waste that is currently produced at public events said Terry. Moreton Bay Regional Council supports the idea, and is offering practical advice. The Show Society secretary Alison Kenny has offered to lead the project, and is keen to establish an informal group to assist just email [email protected] or complete the below form. 22.01.2022 Some great baking hints from the EKKA. Scones Light and fine in texture. This comes about by kneading well. Size should be about 5cm. For show work, scones should never touch while cooking. For pumpkin scones, always strain pumpkin so no pieces of pumpkin show in scones when opened. Before bringing scones to a show, rub any visible flour off with a soft cloth. Spend this week having a practice

11.01.2022 New CATTLE SHOWING FACILITY for Samford Show The construction of our new cattle facility at the Samford Show Grounds is now complete and we are absolutely thrilled with the end product. The new facility has been constructed in steel and can accommodate up to 150 head of show cattle with capacity to increase as required. In addition to the tie up areas, the facility boasts a secured two bay loading ramp, a state of the art wash bay, and a massive show ring that can be divi...ded into two rings on judging day. Plenty of power, water outlets and lighting have also been included and there is ample room for cattle exhibitor parking and camping. Thank you to everyone that has been involved with the project and a special thank you to Counsellor Darren Grimwade and his team, and the Moreton Bay Regional Council for their unwavering support and generous funding of the project. We look forward to welcoming a big contingency of cattle exhibitors and stud beef cattle to our 2021 Samford Show to help us celebrate the opening of our new cattle facility.
