25.01.2022 We are happy to congratulate two of our vets Dr Natalie Fraser and Dr Georgia Gurney on passing their Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists memberships exams, which they sat in June and July of this year. . Dr Georgia sat her memberships in Equine Dentistry and Dr Natalie in Veterinary Behaviour. . Dr Natalie explains why she became passionate in the field of veterinary behaviour - Behaviour problems are the number one reason pets are surrendered to s...helters and rescues world-wide. I pursued my memberships in behaviour because I wanted to help pets and their families stay together. Behaviour problems can have a real emotional toll on the relationship between caregivers and their pets, and it’s important that people get help dealing with these issues. . Dr Georgia, our resident dental nerd as many of you may have gathered already, explains why she pursued her love for equine dentistry I first became passionate about equine dentistry because I loved being able to make such an immediate, positive difference to the overall health and comfort of my patients. If you have ever had a dental problem yourself, you know how debilitating and constant the pain can be, so I wanted to be able to relieve this pain for my patients. I also became extremely interested in trying to achieve and maintain the most functional mouth not only for health but also to achieve peak performance in my equine athlete patients. . Membership of the College is an official recognition of a veterinarian's knowledge and experience in a designated field of veterinary science. Membership is an indication to the profession and the general public of an advanced practitioner, representing a middle-tier of knowledge, competence and experience in a specific area of veterinary practice. . At the moment he has gone on trial with a lovely family who have another FIV positive kitty. If he becomes available again the lucky boy also has some backup families that have offered to take him on. ... Thank you also to everyone who has shared his plight, and offered their kind words and support. Bowie has landed on his feet right in time for Christmas, a very lucky stray cat indeed :)

11.01.2022 Our small ruminants need health checks and preventative health care too! . . Just like other species these guys suffer from preventable parasites and diseases as well! .... . General health checks are always a good idea for these guys including getting annual vaccinations and worming. We can even show you how to do these tasks yourself! . . Worming or even better a faecal egg count should be carried out at least every 3 months. Sometimes more regularly in summer with our high shedders (found on faecal egg count). We have quite a worm burden in the valley and it can be life threatening so don’t let this one slide. . . Many people also forget, these guys also require yearly vaccinations for preventable lethal clostridial diseases such as tetanus! . . 04.01.2022 Well How’dy partner I just got my first dental with Dr Georgia at the Equine Hospital. My baby mouth was very good and developing well! She did have to take off lots of sharp enamel points, extract 3 baby caps that were loose and annoying me and take out 2 wolf teeth! But that means lots of money from the tooth fairy for carrots!
