20.01.2022 Another amazing dive at Rye Pier. Great conditions again. Super busy on the pier, with people trying to catch the crabs, but luckily the crab piles had moved away from the pier edge. Since then Fisheries have closed the pier which should give the crabs a bit more of a reprieve before they complete their migration. I am the first to say I got a little too close to the big old Rays tail. Very sad to see the hook in its mouth, unfortunately I wasnt as brave to go and put my ha...nd in to pull that out. Also saw a very photogenic Big Belly Seahorse. A great day

15.01.2022 I just nailed my test (40/40) after 4 days of solid theory and practical flying, so in 6-8weeks (once CASA get through their backlog), I will have my RePL Remote Pilots Licence for up to 25kg drones. A little step up from my sub 2kg registration. Today we flew the DJI Matrice, a massive 16kg 6 rotor drone. So much bigger but handles much better. I have learned a massive amount about flying, aerodynamics, air law, fixed wing and multi rotor, batteries, so many things. 15.01.2022 Sunset in Sunshine this evening. Were pretty damn lucky to live so close to the city but have a great piece of nature at our back door. Yes it floods, yes its full of rubbish at times, but damn its nice to have water flowing, animals, birds, fish and yes, even the snakes are a good thing. ... It has been so nice to walk and run along the creek during this craziness and say hi to all the people that call Sunshine home. Some days it is like running the Tan with how many people are experiencing what we have. I really hope it continues after lockdown finishes.

I really love being involved with VCOSS, helping with their photography, livestreaming and other film requirements. They have been working tirelessly on supporting and informing all of the social services in Victoria throughout this pandemic and doing a fantastic job doing it. Its a privilege to be a part of that communication process.

13.01.2022 Lockdown was hard yes, but I thankfully had everything I needed. The only thing I desperately WANTED was to go diving. As soon as that ring of steel was lifted I got out. Perfect conditions. ... Calm clear water and not too cold. A Banjo Shark, a heap of Globe Fish and an Octopus in a tin can (my photo sucked of that so I it's not included). No big rays or seahorses unfortunately but I did however tick off a first for me, seeing a Blue Ring Octopus. Such attractive deadly creatures and so small. I am fully covered in neoprene so in little to no danger. I unfortunately wasn't prepared with my camera for it. Focus was off and my strobes weren't in a good position so I didn't get great shots of it (I was also shitting myself a little bit), so next time. #underwater #photography #underwaterphotography #diving #scuba #scubadiving

12.01.2022 First shots on my Canon R5 in my new Nauticam Na-R5 housing. These shots are with the 230mm dome for my 11-24mm f4, but still yet to play with my ports for 24-105, 100mm macro and 24mm Laowa Probe. I have come from the 5DMkIV in a Meikon housing which had such limited controls and no ability to zoom, manual focus or even use a different lens. I was stuck with my 16-35mm. ... The split shots on this rig are going to be amazing This was at at shallow area at Jawbone Sanctuary in Melbourne Australia. Only 20 mins from home, where I could just go for a snorkel and get used to the housing. 06.01.2022 One of the reasons I got in to diving was to witness what I did today. The phenomenon that is the Spider Crab Migration. It was a bit of a risk driving all the way out to Rye pier knowing that the weather had been awful and the reports were that the visibility was poor, but we perservered as the reports were also that there were tens of thousands of crabs there. ... We arrived and the water was super choppy, we stepped in via the awesome new platform built just recently into the pier for divers. We were thrashed around, almost being slammed into the pylons. We descended, the cold water creeping in to our wetsuits, but the adrenaline and the requirement to keep moving, kept our body temperature high enough to keep going. As we swam toward the end of the pier we started seeing a few crabs hanging out by themselves. I started taking a few pics, then realised that they were not alone. Through the 3-5m visibility we realised how big this was. As far as we could see they were piling on top of each other, 4 or so deep in places and just eveywhere. We swam around the crab pots that strangely had turkeys in them as bait. So weird. Seriously these crabs are supposedly not good for eating, skinny legs and tiny bodies, what is the point? I would prefer to eat the turkey to be honest. I grabbed some video and a bunch of photos before sure enough my camera battery went flat, it did say full when I started but I know there a couple of batteries in my collection that are coming to the end of their life. It was ok though, I had enough content, I had ticked off a life goal and frankly the surging water and the temperature was enough for me to happily call it a day.

04.01.2022 As pointed out by a friend and client Ryan Sheales, it seems I should be celebrating 15 years of Samurai AV this year They say, the first ten years of running your own business is tough, well they were right, but the last 5 have definitely been amazing, moving into exactly where I wanted to be. Spending every working day doing what I love is the dream.... Here is to another 15 years Thanks to all of the clients, crew and family and friends support along the way. The business wouldnt be where it is without them.

03.01.2022 From a shoot we luckily got in before quarantine. Originally this was supposed to just be a feature of the makeup artists work, but when we sat the model at the old telephone, all made up with her hair all glamourous I felt like I could add something to the story and create a photo for my own collection. I asked the other model whose house it was if her partner was still home and if he had a white singlet. So I sat him on the couch in the background and it added so much mor...e to it. You say Well I had to test out and get used to the new Dry Suit I was so generously given by Jill and David from ASAM (asam.com.au) Thank you SO much. It is a beautiful thing to walk in to 12 degree water wearing trackies and a jacket and get changed at the end of a warm 45min dive and be completely dry. ... Winter diving will be a lot more comfortable from now on. So no photos of underwater creatures this week, but many more to come. @annekemai
