23.01.2022 This painting truly represents the close bond of empathy and understanding between the Australian Light Horseman and his horse. This light horseman has been bitterly disappointed, for the mail has come and he has missed out again. This was the experience of trooper Ion Idriess for this is what he wrote in his diary in 1916... "June 21st Yesterday fifteen bags of mail (thousands of letters) came for the 5TH. And yet there was not one solitary letter, parcel, or even newspaper ...for me." September 19th Why the hell don't I get any letters or parcels? My mates are always getting them: I don't get a lousy newspaper even." Another Light Horseman, Major Harold B Suttor wrote in his diary in May 1918.. "Thurs 9. One ton of mail arrives and not one letter for me - usual luck" Feeling forlorn and forgotten this Light Horseman has ridden his mount aside from the rest of his section, and feeling rather sorry for himself has plopped down on the ground to indulge in a little wallow in self pity alone. His horse may not understand just why his rider is so unhappy at this moment, but horses are very sensitive and intelligent creatures, and he certainly can feel that his master is upset. He bends his head down over his masters shoulder, nuzzling him perhaps with a little nicker of horse sympathy, to let him know that he is by his side, feeling his sadness, and he is not alone. His Light Horseman responds by laying his head against that of his horse and giving him a hug and caress. Perhaps soft words are spoken, perhaps none are needed, but mutual sympathy is expressed and appreciated by both, and so each are comforted and reassured by the other. https://hubs.ly/H0xfsVc0 The Australian Light Horse is an iconic part of our history. From the Boer War through World War One the Australina Light horse has taken its place in. We hope to keep their history and their story alive through our Light Horse inspired collections. 20.01.2022 Remember all those that served. Originally known as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November and marks the signing of the peace agreement between Germany and the Allies that ended the Great War of 1914-1918. The Second World War began just 21 years later. Almost a million Australians served during that conflict lasted close to six years. Armistice Day was then renamed Remembrance Day.... Now Remembrance Day is a day to remember and honour all Australians who have served. #remembranceday #lestweforget #veteransday #remembrance #poppies #veteran #digger #diggerstribute

19.01.2022 Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Darren Chester said Legacy Week was known for its trademark badges and was a simple way that Australians can support our ex-service personnel and their families, and say ‘thank you’. Every year since 1942, Legacy volunteers have fundraised across Australia for the families of veterans who stand by our service men and women both during and after their service, Mr Chester said. This year has been unprecedented in so many ways, and the coronavir...us crisis has heightened many of the pressures that our veterans and their families are experiencing. That is why it is more important than ever that we all do what we can to help organisations like Legacy support the families of veterans and I encourage Australians to consider buying a badge or supporting Legacy online. 13.01.2022 This Light Horseman is picking these red anemones to press within his diary, he will and send them pressed and dried with letters or postcards to his loved ones back at home in Australia. His mount is just as pleased with the first fresh green grass she has tasted since leaving Australia. This was quite a common practise amongst the Light Horsemen, delighted as they entered the Holy Land, by the change from the monotonous dry dust of the desert. The winter rains in the wester...n Mediterranean region bring out a fabulous display of wild flowers covering the countryside; none more eye catching or abundant than the beautiful red anemones, Anemone Coronaria. Each individual flower blooms for a few weeks, and tracks the sun on sunny days. Anemones grow in a number of other colours, which are more selective about their habitat, but these vivid red anemones are the most numerous, and flower throughout all regions of Israel. In fact these beautiful winter flowers are so widespread and so spectacular that they now attract many tourists to Israel, and by popular vote in 2013 were declared to be Israel's national flower. https://hubs.ly/H0xfsVg0 #Beersheba #LightHorse #WW1 #WWI #GreatWar #AustralianLightHorse #Horse #History #historic #military #collection
12.01.2022 Pictured are just one section of two regiments of Australian Light Horse that on the 31st of October 1917, braved shell and machine-gun fire to gallop over 3 miles of open plain, and with bayonets drawn, charge the Turkish stronghold of Beersheba. The men and horses were ravenously thirsty, the horses having had no water for nearly 60 hours, which gave an urgency to the attack, for once the horses smelled water there was no stopping them. TheTurks overwhelmed by the speed and ...sheer audacity of the attack, failed to lower their gun-sights quickly enough, enabling the light horse regiments to gallop beneath their fire. Within an hour Beersheba was won, and most of the precious wells were saved. This victory was strategically important as it opened the way to the taking of Palestine and Jerusalem, thus changing the course of history in the Middle East. Of the 800 men and horses involved in this charge, 44 horses were killed, 32 horsemen died and 36 were injured. It was one of the last great cavalry charges in military history and one of the most successful https://hubs.ly/H0xfrX90 The Australian Light Horse is an iconic part of our history. 09.01.2022 Our favourites to win the race - Galloping Jack! Appointed colonel of the 12th Light Horse Regiment, Australian Imperial Force, on 22 February 1916, Royston won the immediate affection and respect of his men, becoming a light horse legend at the battle of Romani on 4-5 August. In temporary command of the 2nd Light Horse Brigade, the 'massively built' 56-year-old Royston galloped around the battlefield with astounding energy and courage, reputedly riding fourteen horses to a s...tandstill. His nickname, 'Galloping Jack', would stick. Late in the first day's battle a bullet lodged in Royston's calf. Ordered by Major General (Sir) Harry Chauvel to have the wound treated, he galloped off before the dressing was completed, trailing strips of bandage. On the second day of battle Chauvel ordered him to hospital. Royston left within a few hours and the bullet stayed in his leg until his death. Next day the 1st L.H. Brigade was also put under his command for the Bir el Abd operation and on 9 August he took command of the 3rd L.H. Brigade. At the battle of Magdhaba in December he created another legend. Confronting several Turkish soldiers, he flourished his riding cane and ordered 'Hands up' in Bantu. The startled Turks dropped their rifles and surrendered. https://hubs.ly/H0z3l680 #melbournecup #millinery #military #collection #onlineshopping #hobby #follow #newcollection #collectors #armedforces #OurVeterans #TYFYS #veteran #DiggersTribute #diggers #veterandiggers
