25.01.2022 One of the elements that make Sri Lanka truly unique is the traditional dancing. Keep watching to find out more about the different styles of dance!

25.01.2022 The Handpan drum belonging to the idiophone class was developed in the year 2000 by Felix Rohner and Sabina Scharer from Switzerland. It consists of two half sheets of steel joined together around the rim, leaving the inside hollow. On the top surface is the centre note surrounded by eight outer notes. The bottom surface consists of a rolled-in hole in the middle that creates a unique note when the rim is struck. Handpan drum is tuned to a particular scale such as major, natu...ral major, harmonic minor, hijaz, mixolydian, etc. Here’s our guru, Dinesh Perera playing a Sri Lankan melody created from Ukusa Vannama (Eagle dance) on the Hang drum, accompanied by one of our senior students with the Geta bera. The handpan drum scale used in this demo is tuned to the D hijaz scale or D minor. Check out the full video below!! https://youtu.be/6s3koNrlddA

16.01.2022 This month officially marks the fifth anniversary of Sankha Ridma’s second Kala Eli Mangalya held at the Lankarama Sri Lankan Buddhist Temple in Sydney. The Kala Eli Mangalya is a Kandyan dance tradition performed by female dancers. Showcasing the talents learnt by students, the ceremony debuts the traditional bearers that will teach the next generation. The Kala Eli Mangalya begins prior to the ceremony, with all students converting to a vegetarian diet for at least a month... as a homage to the gods. On the day of the ceremony, an auspicious time is given where students are blessed in the temple with a Pahimpatha. This ritual is known as the Pahimpath Mangalya. After all religious rituals, the students perform for the first time as graduated dancers in celebration of their achievement. . . . #sankharidma #traditional #srilankandance #srilanka #dancing #dancersofinstagram #danceaustralia #culture #srilankandancers #sydneydancers #sydneyaustralia #sydneydance #sydneydancestudio #southasiandance #traditionaldance #kandyandance #kandysrilanka #danceofinstagram #nruthyabhisheka2015
