25.01.2022 Tune into the UBC bowls podcast with our super star dolphin Michael Wilks as special guest

25.01.2022 NEW TEAMS LAUNCH INTO 2020 UBC Eight new teams have been welcomed into the UBC for the upcoming 2020 season. UBC CEO Mark Casey is excited with the introductio...n of the new teams "I think all teams will add something a little different to our events, it's fantastic to have another Melbourne based team in the Flem Ken Colts, they are sure to have a large following particularly at the Deer Park and Moama events, as well the Geelong Clippers. The Clippers have put together a really strong outfit so I'm looking forward to seeing how they go. The Sapphire Coast Dolphins is a great story, Jason Kuiti wanted to involve the Merimbula region in an effort to bring some joy to the people in the bowls community who have been affected by the recent bushfires. Jason has secured loveable former Australian rep Michael Wilks so it's brilliant to have him involved with the team as well." There has been a large influx of International flavour added into the UBC for 2020, with the North America Orcas, Asia Tigers (Malaysia), Hong Kong Qualifiers and the Broadbeach Lions being owned and organised by China's Mr Ye. "From the outset, we have made it clear that our intention was to help grow our sport in all areas, of course we have a big focus in Australia and New Zealand but Asia is certainly becoming one of the UBC's main supporters so we will be looking to assist Bowls Asia with strategies to keep improving the exposure of our sport in their countries. Then to welcome a team from North America on the day of the draft was just amazing. We couldn't have asked for anymore!" said Casey The UBC Challengers is another new concept brought in for 2020. This allows players to enter a 1 day qualifying event for the opportunity to win their way through to the main UBC event. Our first qualifying event will be held at the Deer Park Club on March 31, to enter please head to https://ultimatebowlschampionship.com.au/ubc-challengers-e/ Please join us in welcoming our new teams into the Ultimate Bowls Championship for 2020.

17.01.2022 Ultimate Bowls Week - Team Preview Last week we provided a team preview on the Streaky Bay Sharks and The Point (Taren Point Bowling Club). Both, the Sharks a...nd The Point were two of the more impressive teams in 2019 and this is likely to continue in 2020. The two teams are stacked with International players and will be a force at the Ultimate Bowls Week in December. Today, we provide team previews of the champions of 2019 The Dandenong Club and winners of event three Port Melbourne Borough Boyz. DANDENONG CLUB The Dandenong Club were simply sensational in the inaugural UBC season. They got off to a great start with a victory in the first ever UBC event at the Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club. Gary Kelly played the "shot of the tournament" to get his team the win over Warilla with the last bowl of the match in the incredible quarter final clash. Kelly continued his brilliant form through the year, and he received excellent support from Australian Jackaroo Barrie Lester and Aussie legend Wayne Turley. Both Lester and Turley combined superbly laying the perfect platform for Kelly. Winners of the Ultimate Team for 2019, and will go close again in 2020. Prediction: Hard to see this powerful trio not featuring heavily in finals in 2020. Kelly loves the carpet surfaces and with the strong form of both Lester and Turley, we’re expecting The Dandenong Club to win at least one event in 2020. PORT MELBOURNE BOROUGH BOYZ The Port Melbourne Borough Boyz were terrific in the final event of the year, earning them the chance to play Exodas in the final. The team from Port Melbourne went into the final as underdogs but came away as champions after the complete team performance in the biggest match of their careers. Exciting young star Nathan Wilson was brilliant during the whole event, but his performance in the final had to be seen to be believed. Together with Brett Spurr and Johnny McCarron, the Borough Boyz got better in each event and will head into the Ultimate Bowls Week full of confidence. Prediction: A lot depends on Nathan Wilson, he only has to repeat his form from the final event of 2019 again to ensure the Port Melbourne Borough Boyz will be one of the teams to beat in 2020. Next week we preview the Flemington Kensington Colts and the Bowls Asia Tigers

09.01.2022 Ultimate Bowls Week - Team Preview Last week we provided team previews on The Dandenong Club and Port Melbourne Borough Boyz. Two of the star performers of th...e inaugural Ultimate Bowls Championship season, winning the first and third events respectively. Many believe both teams will feature prominently again in 2020. Today, we provide team previews on two of the newcomers into the Ultimate Bowls Championship, the Flemington Kensington Colts and the Asia Tigers. FLEM KEN COLTS A new team into the Ultimate Bowls Championship, the Flemington Kensington Colts is owned by Jason Kuiti and Mark Russell. Together, they have out together an outstanding team of talented players from Victoria. All three stars have been long serving Victorian representatives, they are compatible, and will no doubt be a team that will cause plenty of worries to some of the highly fancied teams. Brett Foley, Russell Green and Ben Loughlin can all play in any position, which gives them the flexibility to adapt to different game styles against various opposition. The Colts will be strongly supported by the local Melbourne fan base and will be sure to give their supporters plenty to cheer about. Prediction: The Colts will be a team that will go under the radar, their players are hard working and will do what it takes to get the job done. Look for the former Aussie Rep Russell Green Jnr to set the competition alight, he’s a player that is a machine once he’s in the groove. If this happens, finals are on the cards. ASIA TIGERS The Asia Tigers are one of the most exciting teams to come into the Ultimate Bowls Championship for 2020. Mr Ye has selected three of the best Malaysian players in Siti Zalina Ahmad, Emma Firyana Saroji and Fairul Izwan. Siti Zalina Ahmad, the multiple Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist, sits alongside Jo Edwards and Karen Murphy as some of the greatest female players of all time, her record speaks for itself and we can’t wait to see her in action in the UBC. Unfortunately, the current covid-19 crisis means that the team’s involvement in the UBC is in jeopardy due to travel restrictions. Team Owner Mr Ye will find replacement players for the team if the Malaysian players are not able to travel in 2020. Prediction: Difficult to say due to the uncertainty, however one thing is for sure if the team can travel into Australia then they have the talent and international experience to go all the way. Malaysia are a powerhouse country in the bowls world and we have three of their best in the UBC. Finals Next week we preview the teams of Warilla Gorillas and the Wellington Hornets.

08.01.2022 We can’t wait

07.01.2022 Team owner Jason Kuiti asks Superstar Chloe Stewart who plays in the UBC with Team Weipa Crocs, Chloe also plays for Tweed Heads, Queensland and Australia. Chl...oe's teammates are two of the Greatest Ever Females to play bowls and will a formidable team at the Ultimate UBC Week at Deer Park shortly. 1.Who is the funniest person you know in bowls. Kevin Anderson, always provides a good laugh. 2. What's your favourite discipline ie.singles, pairs, etc.. I really enjoy playing singles and fours. Love the team environment in fours but also enjoy the challenge of a singles game. 3. What do you like about the UBC concept? The games are short and sharp, and it’s a totally different concept to what we traditionally play 4. What would you change to improve the UBC concept? I would change it to 7 ends instead of 5. It’s still a short format but it gives you a little more room to comeback if you have a bad end. 5. Select your Ultimate UBC team. Alex Marshall, Jo Edwards and Aaron Wilson 6. If you were asked to come up with a bowls concept what would it be. I think a speed camera would be very cool to measure how fast players drive on the green. That way we would really know who has the fastest drive out there. 7. Who are the best 3 players you have played with? Ian Schuback, Wayne Turley and Aaron Wilson 8 Most embarrassing bowls moment. When I playing in the 2018 Australian indoor semi final, I went to play my bowl and it slipped out of my hand and i dumped it, and wobbled up the green about 15metres. As the indoor green is pretty quiet, there was no hiding the massive thud when I dumped it. Hahah! 9.Who do you know who always talks about bowls and nothing else. Ryan Bester 10.If there was one rule you could change in bowls what would it be. No respot, ever. 11. How do you judge your line and where do you stand on the mat. I visualise my line and arch of my bowl. Stand mostly in the middle and aim towards the line I’ve visualised. 12. How would you attract new members. Encourage clubs to hold more barefoot bowls or family fun days. Have people that are really enthusiastic teaching them the basics. And don’t be too strict with them. 13. What is holding bowls back from attracting new members? I think the sport is still stereotyped as an old persons game. 14. What advice would you give an aspiring bowler wanting to advance their game. Get the basics right, got technique and delivery. Play with better players, ask heaps of questions and play in as many different tournaments as you can. Practice with purpose 15. When bowlers say I'm going to the club to practice they generally just play a game, what is your interpretation of practice. I really enjoy doing drills. The perfect end is a favourite, as it really shows whether you are in good touch or not and if you are hitting well or not. Normally 4 weeks out from a tournament, week 1-2 is only drills, week 3 drills and match play, week 4 only match play. 16. Name an up and coming player you think will be a star? Kira Bourke for sure! 17. Do you have a pregame routine? Not really. I like to relax by having a chat with people before I go and play. 18. What's the biggest obstacle you've had to overcome in bowls and how did you do it? I think when I was younger I struggled to be confident when I played. Since moving to the Gold Coast 4 years ago, I feel thats been a big improvement in my game. And this has come from playing with confident players. 19. What is your fondest bowls memory? Winning the world junior championship in 2014 at Broadbeach, it was so special to have my Mum and Nan there watching and supporting me. Thanks heaps for taking the time to answer my questionnaire Chloe, I look forward to catching up with you at the Ultimate UBC Week at Deer Park starting on the 14th of December
