24.01.2022 Advice on masks from NSW health still stands , wear a mask in indoor venues , it reduces spread of infection and protects you form others and others form you. If you are outdoor and able to socially distance you don’t have to wear a mask , however indoor in particular in Doctors’ surgery where it is very likely that others in the waiting room might have respiratory symptoms it is essential . Protect each other and health care workers you need them to care for you https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/face-masks

22.01.2022 PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT FURTHER VENUES AND BUS ROUTES NSW Health has been notified of a number of new venues of concern and bus routes associated with confirmed cases of #COVID19.

21.01.2022 National cabinet will meet tomorrow to discuss issues relating to Covid 19 including vaccine . It is predicted that vaccine will become available in March 2021. Although no final details have been released it is expected that priority will be given to elderly patients over 70 years of age , those with chronic disease increasing their risk of catching the virus or developing severe infection health care workers and indigenous Australians . Administration of vaccine will occur ...though general practice just like annual influenza vaccination . In the UK, regulators are warning people with a history of significant allergic reactions to avoid receiving the new Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for the time being as they investigate whether two adverse reactions recorded on the first day of the country's mass vaccination program were linked to the vaccine. As you'll recall, 90-year-old Margaret Keenan became the first person in the UK to receive the COVID shot on Tuesday in a world-first. Details if vaccine will be announced on this page as soon as they become available to us from the health department. Dr Fielder

19.01.2022 NSW recorded seven locally acquired cases of #COVID19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, with an additional 12 cases in returned travellers in hotel quarantine. This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in NSW to 4,758 since the beginning of the pandemic. Given the general risk in Greater Sydney, new measures are required to reduce the transmission potential of COVID-19 while maintaining economic activity. The following measures for Greater Sydney (including Wollongong,... Central Coast and Blue Mountains) are effective from midnight tonight; Face masks will be mandatory in the following indoor settings: shopping (retail, supermarkets and shopping centres), public/shared transport, indoor entertainment (including cinemas and theatres), places of worship, hair and beauty premises. Face masks will also be mandatory for all staff in hospitality venues and casinos and for patrons using gaming services. Compliance will start from Monday, 4 January 2021 with $200 on the spot fines for individuals for non-compliance. Children under 12 are exempt but are encouraged to wear masks where practicable. Gym classes reduced to 30 people. Places of worship and religious services limited to 1 person per 4sqm up to a maximum of 100 people per separate area. Weddings and funerals limited to 1 person per 4sqm up to a maximum of 100 people. Outdoor performances and protests reduced to 500 people. Controlled, outdoor gatherings (seated, ticketed, enclosed) reduced to 2,000 people. Night clubs not permitted. People are still encouraged to limit non-essential gatherings and reduce their mobility where possible to further minimise the risk of transmission in the community. Whilst these measures do not apply to areas outside Greater Sydney (including Wollongong, Central Coast and Blue Mountains), we urge all residents and visitors across the State to practise COVID safe behaviours and get tested even if symptoms are mild. We thank the community for their patience and understanding. Our priority is always to protect the health and safety of the community. Practice will reopen on Monday the 4th of January . All patients are required to wear a mask children under 12 exempt . Please bring your own mask. If you do not have a mask you will not be permitted to enter the practice . Upon arrival we will require each person to register using QR code , regardless if you are seeing a doctor of simply coming to accompany someone . All children and other dependents will be required to sign in as well . We will have a limit of 4 patients in waiting rom including children and babies and 2 maximum in consulting room . We appreciate your cooperation with practice rules . Dr Fielder

18.01.2022 Yesterday we celebrated a great end of academic year for our children . I couldn’t be more greatful to amazing teachers who supported them through this difficult year and allowed me to be at work looking after my patients during pandemic . This was something I thought was so inspiring and timely to end the year on : in life we can not control many things all we can do is make the most of what we are given and rise to the challenge every time . 2020 was a year of stumbling blocks but we make them steppingstones instead . Have a great day

18.01.2022 "Today is a great day for science and humanity," Pfizer's chairman and chief executive said today on announcing to the world that initial data from a large study indicates the pharmaceutical giant's experimental vaccine is more than 90 per cent effective. Although this is a very welcomed news, and as we approach the end of the year Covid fatigue is definitely kicking in and good news is what we all need ! There are still many questions that remain unanswered and more data is ...required . We don’t know how long this vaccine efficacy will last or will it be effective for the elderly people . Great news day 4 of zero community transmission in NSW and sun is shining . Indoor gathering limits will remain over Christmas of 20 people maximum for private homes and 30 people in restaurants . Dr Fielder

18.01.2022 Although news is good for NSW as we have seen with New Zealand situation can get out of control very quickly and Covid 19 has not disappeared , wearing mask has been proven to be single most effective strategy in reducing viral spread . It is for this reason that we have a strict policy that all patients attending our practice over the age of 12 must wear a mask . This policy has allowed us to continue have doctors and staff who are well and able to work and provide care to o...ur patients thoughout pandemic . We appreciate it might be inconvenient, we have been wearing masks for 9 months full time , however please respect that is is our policy designed to protect our staff and other patients . If you don’t have a mask we have limited supply of masks for sale although we much prefer for you to bring your own . Please note we have zero tolerance to abuse of our staff . Dr Fielder

17.01.2022 68000 tests done in the last 24 hours. Overnight NSW 22 cases of community transmission. 1/2 of those were in isolation, 5 were for isolation for part of the time and 6 were infections in community . We hope with time all cases detected would be in isolation this is what determines success of lock down. We ask that all of you continue to follow public health orders Stay at home unless you have 4 reasons to leave as described before . QR codes are essential, please don't for...get to check in and check out . We have had many calls about AZ vaccine for younger patients, if you are btw 18-60 you can get AZ however you must make informed consent and understand a small but important risk of clotting and in view of that we ask that you book a consultation with your doctor to discuss risk and benefit prior to booking you into the clinic. We have not received any additional information re Pfizer arriving to the practice we continue to advocate PHN and Federal government for delivery of this vaccine in timely manner. Please continue checking venues on NSW health daily we have posted this morning press release. Out of 22 cases all of cases were linked to previous acquired cases, 6 cases were acquired overseas. All staff and patrons of Crossways hotel who attended btw 23/6-27/6 are close contact and must immediately get tested and isolate for 14 days and call 1800943553 Other venues of concern are : Paddington 224 Glenmore road Pizzeria, Kensington Doncaster Hotel, Crossway Strathfield, Auburn Central on the 28th of June at anytime isolate and get a test and away. 24 year old female student nurse, who worked whilst infections for a few days-this case came in last night not in todays numbers. Wards where she worked in locked down, patients been followed up, tests are being arranged. Fairfield and RNS hospitals were involved. We urge for everyone to present for second dose of AZ , both vaccines offer significant protection against hospitalization. Stay safe, stay home, wear a mask, keep social distance and book your vaccine appointment. If you have not already get your flu shot . Dr Fielder

13.01.2022 Three new cases of COVID-19 have been detected on Wednesday in Sydney, two along the northern beaches and one in the city's south-west. NSW Health confirmed a woman in her 60s and a man in his 70s tested positive for the virus and are close contacts of each other. The cases visited a number of venues while infectious in Palm Beach and Avalon. No links have so far been identified to other known cases. "Everyone living in the northern beaches area should monitor for even the mi...ldest of symptoms and come forward for testing immediately if they appear, then isolate until a negative result is received," NSW Health said. Earlier, a 45-year-old man who works as a van driver shuttling airline crew between Sydney Airport and their accommodation also tested positive. He is NSW's first case of community transmission since December 3. Another reminder that pandemic continues and we must maintain vigilance . If you plan to travel to palm beach and Avalon area over the next few weeks please be particularly careful . Wear a mask in public places maintain social distance , if you become sick present for testing and quarantine for 14 days . We are approaching final few days of the year . Practice will close from Thursday the 24th of December to Monday the 4 th of January to allow all of our doctors and staff to take much needed break and spend time with their families . During this time if you need urgent medical care please either contact our after hours service provider on 13SICK or present to your nearest emergency department . Dr Fielder and Sapphire Team

10.01.2022 Today marks six consecutive days of zero locally transmitted cases Testing numbers remain strong, with 18,941 recorded yesterday. National cabinet met today and all states and territories - with the exception of Western Australia - agreed to a plan to reopen their borders by Christmas.... A national COVID vaccination policy was also agreed. Under the policy: elderly people, others who are particularly vulnerable to the virus and frontline care workers will be prioritised; vaccinations will be free to all Australians or Medicare-eligible visa holders; vaccination will not be mandatory; but people may have to show proof they've received a COVID-19 vaccination if they wish to enter Australia. Stay safe . Dr Fielder

08.01.2022 Those people who think that delta strain is just a cold please read below . "We have 37 COVID patients admitted to hospital... COVID, including the Delta strain, is not a mild disease. It can be mild in some but for many it can lead to hospitalisation and death. Of that total 37, 14 are under the age of 55, which should dispel the myth that this is something that only impacts on the elderly. Of those, eight are under the age of 35. Again, dispelling that myth that it only leads to hospitalisation for the elderly. Of the seven people in ICU, one is in their 30s... a bit of a wake-up call to young people." - NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant

08.01.2022 The number of new COVID-19 cases in NSW has spiked today with 38 infections recorded to 8pm yesterday. Highest number on a single day in 14 months Of the new cases, 26 are linked to a known case or cluster but the source of infection for 12 cases remains under investigation. Eleven cases were infectious while in the community and another nine were only in isolation for part of their infectious period.... More people have been hospitalised with the virus overnight with 40 now being treated for COVID-19, up from 37 yesterday. 11 people are in ICU and 3 people are now on ventilators. Family restrictions clarified Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant asked NSW residents to redefine who they classify as family as household transmission continues to present an ongoing challenge for the state. Family are only those people who live with you. Please do not go and visit extended family members unless you are providing essential care to them. Shopping ideally online only for food items with no contact at delivery . If you are dropping into supermarket keep your visit very short and don't stop and chat with anyone. Numbers are concerning and so are hospitalizations and ICU admission and low vaccination rates. Many people are thinking about vaccine, wanting to discuss it with their doctor. Your General Practitioner is best placed to discuss any concerns you have so please do not wait book in and ask all the questions you like. The only way to protect yourself from virus is to get vaccinated

Fever Please note symptom of loss of smell is much less common This virus does infect children It is a lot more contagious infectivity rate of unimmunised population is 100 percent We had many calls with the following questions today please see my answers below 1. When will we get Pfizer - Federal government is responsible for release of Pfizer currently all interested GP have been asked to submit expressions of interest to participate and asked to wait for further information . We anticipate July / August as we are located in the hot zone . 2. Should I have my second AZ or should I wait for Pfizer ? - please do not wait for Pfizer and get your second AZ . 3. Can I have my AZ earlier then 12 weeks ? Yes you can minimum time is 4 weeks however efficacy of vaccine drops therefore my recommendation is to wait for 12 weeks from dose 1 . Should I get a test if I have a cold ? Yes absolutely you must get a test and isolate until result 5. I am 40-60 and I can’t get an appointment . 05.01.2022 On Wednesday NSW recorded its 25th consecutive day without a locally transmitted case of COVID-19. At this stage we have managed to eliminate community transmission. ! This is amazing news and credit to each and every one of us for following the rules , getting tested and adhering to social distancing . From Monday the one person per two-square-metres rule will prevail at all indoor venues including for hospitality, retail and places of worship. The one person per four-squar...e-metres will still apply to gyms and nightclubs-high risk venues . You will be able to stand up while drinking outdoors at pubs, but nightclubs and indoor pubs can only serve drinks to seated guests. Private outdoor gatherings, such as barbecues and picnics, can double in size to 100 people. Dance floors, including at weddings and nightclubs, can feature 50 people at a time and don't have to be the same 50 people. Outdoor stadiums and theatres can operate at full capacity and indoor stadiums and theatres can fill 75 per cent of their seats. Other outdoor ticketed events can have up to 5000 people seated with the 2m2. From tomorrow we will only require those with respiratory symptoms of fever or cough or runny nose to wear a mask , more patients will be allowed to sit in our waiting room, our doctors will continue to wear masks . 04.01.2022 The global death toll from COVID-19 has passed 1.3 million The number of confirmed cases is above 56.2 million and more than 36.1 million people have recovered, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally at 7.30pm. In NSW news remains good - 5 cases in overseas travelers and no community transmission . From November 23, up to 3000 people will be allowed at an outdoor gathering, such as a concert, provided the event has a COVIDsafe plan in place; and... Groups of 500 will be allowed to gather outdoors for religious services and choir numbers will be increased from five to 30. In December, capacity at funerals will increase from 100 to 300. Ms Berejiklian also announced that people in the CBD and North Sydney will be required to carry a pass (available on the Service NSW website) on New Year's Eve, even if visiting a private home. Despite good news in our state this year has been challenging and Mental Health issues remain on the rise . My 5 top tips to keep your mental health in check 1. Prioritize your sleep ! It is essential for mental health , on average most people need between 6-8 hours per night , best quality of sleep is before midnight. Sleep hygiene includes reducing caffeine , avoiding late heavy meals , having set routine , winding down before bed, cool and dark place to sleep . If you gave trouble with sleep please consult with our clinicians for individual advice 2. Exercise daily or at least 5 days per week and get a minimum 12000 steps per day . Exercise has been shown to improve mood and feeling of well-being . I recommend moderate to high intensity training 45 min per day . Consider it essential like eating or brushing your teeth you need to do it so don’t use excuses . 3. Meditate , have quiet time in your busy day 10-15 minutes , download mindfulness app , for me this is the hardest of them all but you can create your own meditation ritual calm soft music and a stretch on the mat is my favourite 4. Spend time with those who fill your tank with positive emotions , not those who drain your energy . Remove yourself from toxic relationships and people . 5. Make sure to laugh out loud, sing in the shower and dance in the kitchen and do something fun everyday , watch a good movie , read a great book , look around and try to see beauty in all that is around . If you are struggling please get help. All of our doctors are experts in managing mental health conditions including diagnosis and treatment . Have a good night . Dr Fielder

03.01.2022 There were no new locally acquired cases recorded today and four cases in hotel quarantine. Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced celebrations in NSW homes will be able to have up to 50 guests as long as there is an outdoor space. If you do not have outdoor space then only 30 people are permitted . Queensland announced today it would reopen its border to Victorians on Tuesday, the same date the state will welcome back Sydneysiders.... Vaccination is looking promising to be delivered potentially to most vulnerable and helath care workers in 2021 . No firm date has been set. From early data vaccine is around 70-90 percent effective. Vaccination will be delivered through general practices . Priority will be given to elderly as the are most vulnerable . Details will follow when available . Australia has done remarkably well and we have truly managed to save lives . One only needs to look at Europe and USA to see what devastation this virus caused . It has been tough and we have all been effected in many ways however we are so lucky to be in this county and so fortunate to be able to celebrate Christmas with our families . Please take care and remember to reach out and get help if you are struggling . We want hat you continue to socially distance and wash hands regularly . Mask policy has not changed at the practice we thank you all for your cooperation . Dr Fielder

02.01.2022 After reporting such positive news last night sadly today a woman from Minto in south-western Sydney, who worked at the Ibis Hotel in Darling Harbour on Friday, November 27 and then at the nearby Novotel Hotel, a quarantine hotel, between Saturday, November 28 and Monday, November 30 tested positive for Covid 19 . The woman's five close family contacts have been tested and all returned negative results. NSW Health has asked anyone who may have used the following services to g...et tested and self-isolate immediately: This is a reminder for all of us that pandemic is not over. Please stay safe . Dr Fielder

02.01.2022 NSW recorded seven new community transmission cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hrs of reporting period with testing numbers dropping significantly to around 20k Six of those cases are directly linked to the Avalon cluster, and five of those are already in isolation. A man in Melbourne and a woman in Perth were arrested after attempting to escape hotel quarantine. Victoria recorded no new coronavirus cases, and one case in an overseas traveller. Queensland recorded no new coro...navirus cases. The new variant of COVID-19, initially found in the UK, has now spread to more countries, including France, Japan and Canada. New high risk areas have been identified. As we enjoy a break and nice weather please continue to remember that virus is in our community , high risk areas for transmission are indoor venues such as gyms , restaurants , pubs where social distancing is difficult . Considering exercising outdoors or in a small group , eating outdoors , having a picnic instead of going to and indoor venue. Please wear a mask when your are outside and socially distance . There was no social distancing observed at our locals beaches, cafes. Please come up with an alternative plan for New Year’s Eve - night at home with a small group of friends eating outside or on a balcony and it sharing food would be preferred . Stay safe and please keep liking our posts and updates and sharing them on your page. Covid vaccine updates will be announced first on this page !
