21.01.2022 Pre/post natal care is an absolutely fascinating space. Personally, I think that bringing life into this world is one of the most precious and joyous experiences for humans. Just the other night I was a party to this; a close friend rang to tell me she was pregnant. After the mad rush of excitement had died down (you could hear the squeals from a few blocks away), I asked about her exercise plans to manage pregnancy. Much to my shock, she told me she had stopped altogether ...because she had no idea what was right or wrong. This is an insight into a real issue. There is such a void of information and access to safe exercise care during pregnancy, yet exercise is absolutely crucial to the health of mother and baby through and after pregnancy. Easier labour, less pain during carrying, injury prevention, faster return to life and normalcy after childbirth I could go on forever (and I will!!). That’s what I’m here to fix. I have a unique intersection between my skill as an Exercise Scientist and my passion to help soon to be or current mothers. Whether through information, training or just someone to talk to when things are a bit tough, I want to help mums in Brisbane worry less and enjoy more the wonders of having a child. If you're just entering or leaving this space, send me a message or give me a call! I'm here and ready to help.

21.01.2022 This is Laura, my superstar teacher, teaching us all something in gym attitude as she smashes her hip hinging. Shakira was certainly right about one thing - our hips don't lie, especially in Rack Pulls! Laura and I are working on a hip hinge movement, releasing tight hip flexors and kicking her posterior chain into gear. More hip stability, glute, hamstring and lower ab activation means we can farewell lower back pain and work far more effectively through her body composition goals.

20.01.2022 Had the inestimable pleasure of working through some Barbell Squat mechanics with Tiana Lee How low do you go? Limbo mechanics will be covered in a separate post. We work through the maximum range we can with Tiana Lee without compromising the strength of her position, and once we have better awareness and strength around her movement we can move to more depth. Squatting is such an important exercise - it has so much function in day to day life, and being a compound exercise... is superb for hitting body composition goals. It's amazing how many people experience pain or difficulty with one of the body's main movements! Love your work Tiana Lee !

19.01.2022 Exercise doesn't have to be boring - so many people mistakenly think exercise and fun are mutually exclusive. See attached antics for case in point!! I'll be honest, climbing that tree was one of the best workouts I've had in a while. While I love working with so many people all through the week, it's equally important to take time out to relax and just enjoy being. Our health is an extension of our happiness, so find exercise that makes you happy and the rest is all just win...ning. Hope you all get a moment to take a breath and enjoy the sunshine, maybe even climb a tree.

17.01.2022 EXERCISE AND PREGNANCY - A MUST DO DUO Do you know that 30% of women who have had a baby will also experience some form of post-natal incontinence? Childbirth has a massive effect on the body, but with clever management some of those effects can be drastically reduced! In my experience people activate ab muscles really well while their pelvic floor does nothing. How do you actually turn it on so it's not just a non-paying passenger!?... The most important thing to remember when activating your core and pelvic floor is that we only need to be working at about 25% activation for best results. Doing so can reduce back pain, risk of injury and improve quality of life significantly. If you're currently just pre or post the joys of bringing life into the world and have questions about your pelvic floor, I'd love to help out!

16.01.2022 I would, but I don’t have time for exercise Ever thought this? I hear this so often in my job, but if we’re all being perfectly honest with ourselves I’m sure we could probably all find time for exercise.... Exercise shouldn’t be a chore, it should be a natural part of life. Whatever the distraction or the excuse, I challenge you to work with it. Encourage kids to get involved with exercise at an early age, spend time playing with your dogs!! I guarantee both parties will love it, and you’re getting active in a beneficial way. Start framing exercise in a constructive way in your life if you ever need a hand doing so, I’m a message or a call away. Jetts Murrumba Downs

13.01.2022 I am so excited about this lift!! I've been working with Ben for nearly 3 months, when we started he had huge hypermobility through his thoracic spine. Not only did he exceed his Deadlift PB by a whopping 25 kilos, he did so by being able to properly stabilise his core and set his shoulders. Truly this is a triumph of technique! We still have some work to go, gotta keep that head down, but he's come such a long way and I am super proud. Excited for where we are heading next!

13.01.2022 As you would all know, working in this space is a passion of mine so I was a keen attendee last time it was run - not only was it really informative about client management around pregnancy, it was super fun too!! Full credit to Rachel Evans - Inspire Wellness for running a rocking course.

09.01.2022 Notice the difference ? This is David, all round top human, together we’re working on increasing his bench press. By using DB instead of the bar, I can see how each side is tracking. ... As we can see from the photo, both sides need some work but his right in particular struggles to set well. Getting that bench up means moving symmetrically and efficiently, so we’re working on setting his right scap resulting in more pec engagement. We’re also going to align his shoulder, elbow and wrist for a smooth transfer of force. Fire up David, we’re close!!

09.01.2022 Sore back? Sore neck? Get tension headaches? Good chance it could be tightness through your thoracic spine! The reason it’s so important to have good posture is to ensure you don’t get pain from poor posture Modern lifestyles, hours spent at desk jobs, on the internet, studying and certain sports can lead to thoracic stiffness and poor movement quality. Decreased thoracic mobility leads to: decreased range of shoulder movements particularly elevation (lifting overhead)... Changes to lower limb mechanics Is associated with lower back pain Neck tension - leading to headaches Have you tried these thoracic releases before? See more

06.01.2022 Kayaker with shoulder problems? Pretty familiar story - for all those non-kayaking fans out there, there is A LOT of trunk and shoulder action going on when paddling. Cameron had some shoulder bursitis, coming from being very lat and bicep dominant in his movement. By stabilising and strengthening his shoulder position, not only can he generate more speed but is less likely to hurt himself doing it - winner winner chicken dinner. Cam is only 15, which makes it doubly important setting up good movement behaviour now!! Poor movement as a youth = bad pain when you're older!
