25.01.2022 I'm really thrilled to have been invited by the Australian Association of Bush Adventure Therapy to present at their practitioner evening! If you are interested in our relationship with nature and are working in the field* of Bush Adventure, Therapy, Psychology, Social work, Outdoor Education, Environment etc., or wondering how to integrate this relationship more into your everyday happenings, then you might like to come along! It would be lovely to see you there!... (*those working in an actual field are also welcome!!) ;)

24.01.2022 This is SUCH great viewing! An open and honest exploration of manhood that highlights the incredible limitations we place on masculinity. It doesn't skim over the fact of our high rates of depression and suicide in Australia and highlights some of the great organisations and individuals who are working in this space. Most of all it is men, talking with men, and it is humbling, moving, thought provoking and full of hope.... It's well worth a look.

23.01.2022 I'm super excited to have been invited to speak at this event! Tickets are very limited and it is sure to sell out - so get in quick if you're keen!

22.01.2022 Last Tuesday night thirty courageous souls gathered to share their grief for the state of the world and to discuss how we might begin to navigate safely through... our inner response to the external turmoil. A big thank you to Sarah Pant, Mele-Ane Havea, and Jessica Huon for lighting the dark path with their hard-won wisdom and setting a beautiful tone for the night. Thanks also to our co-host, Climates, and to Small Giants for donating the stunning space at The White House - what a treat! See more

21.01.2022 "When we absently let the different roles we play in life leech into one another, we arent able to be our best selves. We can struggle to take off our work hat...s at the end of the day and put on our home hats, so we try to wear both and neither fit properly." This one's great for anyone who struggles to leave anxieties behind and be present in the moment.

20.01.2022 'My heart feels bigger' 'I feel privileged to be here' 'I dont think there are enough spaces where we can discuss pain'... These were some of feelings raised on Tuesday, when The Weekly Service and Climates co-hosted a discussion on inner landscapes in a changing climate at the beautiful White House, St Kilda. The conversation began with thought provoking expression of feelings from Small Giants' Mele-Ane Havea, eco-psychotherapist Sarah Pant, and Buddhist teacher Jessica Huon. This opened the door for the 30-odd participants to dig deep and reflect on their experience of despair, growth, loss and opportunity presented by the unfolding climate change. Thanks to those who participated in and supported the event, especially the Small Giants and the team at The White House for making us so welcome in your home!

20.01.2022 An excellent, clear and practical article. Enjoy!

18.01.2022 Its like a dance. And we have to give each being space to dance their dance. Everything is dancing; even the molecules inside the cells are dancing. But we make our lives so heavy. We have these incredibly heavy burdens we carry with us like rocks in a big rucksack. We think that carrying this big heavy rucksack is our security; we think it grounds us. We dont realize the freedom, the lightness of just dropping it off, letting it go. That doesnt mean giving up relationships; it doesnt mean giving up ones profession, or ones family,or ones home. It has nothing to do with that; its not an external change. Its an internal change. Its a change from holding on tightly to holding very lightly. . Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo

13.01.2022 A familiar experience? ;)

13.01.2022 I'm so excited to have been invited to curate the first offering of the season from The Weekly Service. It has been such a delight to create with the rather wonderful Cameron Elliott. If you are in Melbourne, then please do join us for an exploration into the nuances of hope, and how it can spur humble and quietly astonishing ways of finding our way through the dark.

11.01.2022 "It's not finding gratitude that matters most; it's remembering to look in the first place. Remembering to be grateful is a form of emotional intelligence. One study found that it actually affected neuron density in both the ventromedial and lateral prefrontal cortex. These density changes suggest that as emotional intelligence increases, the neurons in these areas become more efficient. With higher emotional intelligence, it simply takes less effort to be grateful..."

11.01.2022 Over and over, over these 75 years, our study has shown that the people who fared the best were the people who "leaned in" to relationships, with family, with friends, with community. (p.s. Women were added to the study, albeit a bit late!)

10.01.2022 I'm joining the lovely folks at The Weekly Service this Saturday, speaking about Diversity and Conflict. Perhaps you'd like to come along!

10.01.2022 This is happening tonight - just a few tickets left, for what is sure to be a wonderful night of conversation. I'm honoured to be speaking amongst such brilliant company. Jump in quick if you'd like to join us! :)

10.01.2022 I was really excited to be a part of the Little Sparkz Camp this week, where I facilitated a drama therapy workshop. It was such a pleasure to collaborate with Emerge, who are doing some wonderful work in Melbourne's South. They support women and children who have experienced domestic violence, through providing outreach support, community education, art therapy for children, legal support and advocacy. http://emergesupport.org.au

09.01.2022 "Some things in life cannot be fixed. They can only be carried"

09.01.2022 Yesterday I spent beautiful rainy Sunday in the Dandenongs facilitating a workshop at the CAPAV (http://capav.org.au/) retreat for fellow therapists. What a privilege to be invited to be part of a wonderful weekend with such inspiring practitioners! We explored sound and movement inner-work and Earth-based psychology practices, working deeply with our experiences as therapists and our connection to our work and the world.

07.01.2022 A lovely reminder :)

06.01.2022 An interesting article on the value of self compassion, over self esteem. (...Although I'm not so keen on the labelling of people, or whole generations, as narcissists!!) "So, when we have self-compassion, when we fail, it's not 'poor me,' it's 'well, everyone fails.' Everyone struggles. This is what it means to be human. And that really radically alters how we relate to failure and difficulty. When we say, 'Oh, this is normal, this is part of what it means to human,' that opens the door to the grow from the experience. If we feel like it's abnormal, this shouldn't be happening, then we start blaming ourselves."

05.01.2022 I was lucky enough to do a bit of this on the weekend!!

03.01.2022 "Once seen as a time for parents to step back, adolescence is increasingly viewed as an opportunity to stay tuned in and emotionally connected."

01.01.2022 'Rather than some people having brains that are wired for addiction, Maté argues, we all have brains that are wired for happiness. And if our happiness is threa...tened at a deep level, by traumas in our past that weve not resolved, we resort to addictions to restore the happiness we truly crave. For Maté, self-awareness is the bottom line: when we wake up and become properly self-aware, we are able to address the traumatic childhood issues that leave us vulnerable to addiction. But because the process inevitably involves pain, we dont address the issues until we absolutely have to until something happens that forces us to face up to the fact that our lives arent working as they should. And as with the individual, so too with society: although all around us in politics and the wider world is mayhem and chaos, Maté holds on to the fact that this discomfort which we are communally aware of will force us to examine whats gone wrong in our collective psyche, and to seek to correct it.'
