25.01.2022 As a clinic, we have done everything we can to keep you safe during the pandemic while you’re in our care. Vaccination is the next step in this process. Sarah had her first today and Naomi’s is on the way.

24.01.2022 I can highly recommend this course from Mindfulness Programs Australasia - MPA. If youre interested in learning more about mindfulness and need another tool in your chest to manage stress, anxiety or depression then this course may suit you. It is facilitated by a psychologist and there is a screening process to participate. The good news is the course is free for people living in Tasmania. Get in quickly. Feel free to tag or share this post with someone youd like to do the course with.

24.01.2022 It's a warm day, Launceston, so how will you be getting active today? Tell us below or even better show us in a photo. Bonus points if you're in a beautiful, natural green space or by the ocean.

24.01.2022 Something wonderful has arrived today! Awakening Fertility is the little sister book to one of my favourite Chinese dietetics books for postpartum care The First Forty Days both by Heng Ou. Im really excited to sink my teeth into this one (theres some great recipes) to further support the people who come to see me in clinic for fertility help.

23.01.2022 Heres to Sunday morning and I have a podcast recommendation for you today. This is a lovely conversation between two good friends, Louis Theroux and Chris ODowd. They discuss how they are managing through these COVID times with honesty, vulnerability, humour and warmth. Make some time to listen to this.

23.01.2022 Do you need to do something you know will be good for you but can’t quite bring yourself to do it? Maybe it’s to go for a walk, cook a nourishing meal, go to bed a little earlier, take your herbs or do the homework I have given you at your appointment? This poem has really stuck with me since I heard it at a mindfulness day I attended recently with Mindfulness Programs Australasia - MPA. Click through and I hope it helps you too. Go on, just do it!

23.01.2022 NAOMI’S ACUPUNCTURE JOURNEY We’re so excited to tell you more about our new Registered Acupuncturist! Naomi Kazi’s journey to being an acupuncturist started with exploring natural health medicine for her chronic health conditions. She completed two years of a Bachelor of Health Science in Naturopathy before transferring to Chinese Medicine. Naomi values the gained wisdom during her journey and applies it to her desire to support her patients’ health and wellness journey.... In a different life, Naomi worked for the South Australian Health Department within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Media and Communications and Medical Services. Outside of acupuncture, Naomi is a wife and mother of two. She finds these important roles have strengthened her passion for natural medicine, especially when caring for her family. She loves getting away to their family farm in rural Tasmania; combining self and family-care with her love of nature and food (creating and enjoying). Additional self-care activities include Chinese Medicine exercise therapy, meditation, yoga, Latin dancing, gardening and her new hobby; woodworking. Book your acupuncture appointment with Naomi through our website, emailing [email protected] or call 0448 128 858.

23.01.2022 Its Womens Health Week! Women's Health Queensland have put together some great videos of women discussing who their best health ally is. Turns out they come in all shapes and forms. Who is your best health ally?

22.01.2022 I’m so excited to have this recipe book in my hands! It’s the new one from Hetty McKinnon and I’ve been following her journey of putting it together on Instagram. If you’re looking for ways to use some of the less common ingredients I often prescribe in clinic such as shiitake mushrooms and black wood ear fungus, black sesame, asian greens, fermented foods such as kimchi and miso, soy beans (edamame) and tofu, sea vegetables and lotus root well this book is for you. There’s a great selection of breakfast meals (including both rice and oat congee recipes), followed by food that could be lunch or dinner, and even a not too sweet dessert selection.

22.01.2022 Pregnant, breastfeeding or TTC? The wonderful GPs at The Bubble Launceston have shared this great evidence based post on COVID-19 vaccination to help you know where you stand. If in doubt, ask your GP.

22.01.2022 Its really lovely to be back in clinic. Thank you so much to all of you who have booked in since Ive reopened my doors. Im so grateful. It has been a lot of work to get the clinic to be #COVIDSafe but the systems are working well and I know a lot of you have said that youre grateful for the care that has been taken in every aspect of infection control. So you can get the best of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine knowing that every precaution has been taken. Heres to a great week ahead for you all.

21.01.2022 This was something nice! Many of you know Ive worked for The University of Tasmania and Endeavour College of Natural Health in the past. I love being involved in a teaching and learning environment and as many of you know I try to bring this to my work in clinic too. Your (Chinese Medicine) doctor should be a teacher too. It was lovely to be a part, albeit a small part, of this excellent team of people.

21.01.2022 In Chinese Medicine we often prescribe lifestyle advice a bit differently than that which you may get elsewhere. It could be laughter, doing something creative, enjoying an artist’s work or getting some green space. Growing your own food, spending time in nature, getting exercise, watching plants grow and bees buzz is good for us. Just over a week ago I spent a weekend at Fat Pig Farm with Good Life Permaculture leaning some basic permaculture principles and getting my hands in the earth to learn about growing food holistically. If this is something you’d love to do I highly recommend a course with Sadie and Anton.

21.01.2022 This weekend we were absolutely blessed to be able to attend a long lunch at Fat Pig Farm. Being long time watchers of The Gourmet Farmer it was wonderful to meet both Sadie, Matthew and their team, be shown around the farm and enjoy the beautiful produce. They also look after vegetarians very well. For those who dont know much about Fat Pig Farm, the property and restaurant are focussed on as much paddock to plate as they can from their own farm and employ permaculture principles. The food is fresh, naturally tasty and cooked simply but expertly with delicious flavours. It was a brilliant afternoon spent in our Huon Valley. I know many of you are keen home gardeners. What do you absolutely love to cook from your own gardens?

21.01.2022 That feeling when you’ve had an excellent treatment. Click through for the video.

20.01.2022 One of my favourite healthy snacks for winter is a tea egg. Have you made them before? Recipe in comments.

20.01.2022 If you’re looking to ‘beef’ up your veggie intake then you can’t go past Hetty McKinnon’s beautiful recipe books and she’s just released a new one. Here is a sample of lovely vegetarian recipes anyone should be able to enjoy.

20.01.2022 I highly recommend this mindfulness program and there’s one last space left in their online course available now.

19.01.2022 I know a lot of us think about this, but today is the day to give it a go... switch off all of your tech 2 hours before bedtime. Have you ever tried our before bed foot soak? It's a very peaceful way to wind down.

19.01.2022 TEN SECONDS OF CALM Take 10 seconds or so and take a good deep breath as you watch this little video of sunrise at Gravelly Beach this morning. Watch it on repeat if you need to!

19.01.2022 If you’re feeling like you need some mindfulness and/or meditation in your life, or just some extra self care this course may be for you. Sharon Johnson is teaching it and she is a lovely and experienced yoga and meditation teacher. It’s a 4 week course that starts at the end of July.

18.01.2022 Today, on this beautiful, sunshiny Launceston day Im actually quite excited to be inside learning about skin conditions and helpful herbs, diet and lifestyle to support your skin, reinforced by the latest research.

17.01.2022 Any singers here? Even if its in the shower or car? Do you have a favourite song to sing? (Ill tell you mine in the comments.) Many cultures consider singing (or chanting) to be good for the soul. Heres some fun warm up exercises that will work your lungs, move your Qi and also make you laugh! Thats got to be good for your mood!

16.01.2022 I know there are some crafty people who follow this page. If you knit or crochet you can make squares for these blankets. Share onwards...

16.01.2022 Today have a think about causes that are important to you or areas of your community that could benefit from your time, skills, cash or support. Put something into motion to assist those causes or community groups today.

16.01.2022 Did you see snow around this morning? Wed love to see your photos if you did! Ben Lomond is looking lovely for a snowy adventure this week. Just be sure to rug up and stay warm!

16.01.2022 CHOCOLATE ALTERNATIVES I very often hear in clinic from people who are looking for sweet treats in the afternoon or evening. Now I love chocolate too (dark is my fave) but heres an alternative for when the sweets/chocolate need to take a backseat. This was my special treat for the Rosehaven finale tonight. So here you go: - 1 lovely apple (this is a local gala)... - black tahini (drizzled over the sliced apple) - nuts and seeds of your choosing (I chose raw almonds, pepitas, sunflower seeds and shredded coconut What are you favourite chocolate/sweets alternatives?

16.01.2022 Chocolate boobs! How appropriate for a weekend that I’m spending at the Health of the Heroine symposium. These Tassie chocolates support the Cancer Council. You can get them delivered too!

16.01.2022 This may just be the cutest thing you see today. Awwww Click through for the video.

16.01.2022 Often in pregnancy finding ways to relax is extra important. Aside, from getting help from a health professional or having your own meditation practice, pregnancy meditation apps can be helpful. Have you used one of these, and if so, which ones did you like best?

16.01.2022 What did you have for breakfast today? This is my gut friendly breakfast which is full of fibre and even has some homemade beet kraut on the side. Lentils may not be common for breakfast in the west however they would not be unusual for breakfast in many other cultures. In fact, you can try a fabulous lentil shakshuka at Launcestons Sweetbrew. Also, Im very inspired by the work of Sue Read from HealthMap. Shes a dietitician who did her PhD on the gut microbiome. Were lucky to have her here in Launceston but because she mostly consults online you can see her anywhere if you have persistent, mysterious digestive symptoms. In fact, Sue and I work really well together with a combination of her gut health dietary work and acupuncture from my side of things to address Earth element disharmonies.

15.01.2022 Parents, have you got some kids who could do with some sleep help? This is for you (and your little ones).

15.01.2022 Need to feel as serene as beautiful Douglas Apsley National Park? Well I have two rare follow up appointments available for tomorrow: 1pm and 2.30pm. Bookings can be made online or if you want to bring forward your appointment from later this week let me know ASAP.

15.01.2022 If youre after yoga to support fertility, through pregnancy or to do with your new bub then this is the yoga studio for you.

14.01.2022 Here’s a shout out to anyone who has, is or will be undergoing IVF. Here in the clinic I have an excellent referral network and resources to help you get the support that works best for you. It’s different for everyone. Has something worked well for you?

14.01.2022 ITS SPRING! Just like my vegie garden that has sprung up in the last week or so, Spring also has that affect on our Qi. In Chinese Medicine, we observe that in Spring your yang begins to rise after being less dominant over the Winter. How will you notice this? Well you will have a little more energy, perhaps rise a little earlier and youll probably be a little more motivated to start some new projects or get more active. Go with this momentum, but still take care not to over do it. Basically, youre like a little sprout with lots of potential, starting to experience some growth but still need a little nurturing. Also, something that makes me very happy is seeing these swarming native bees and a few honey bees making the most of my Chinese cabbage flowers.

14.01.2022 Acupuncture bookings are now open for when I return to House of Prana Launceston on Monday 15th June. More information on booking, new hours and the special precautions I'm taking here: https://sarahgeorgeacupuncture.com.au//acupuncture-appoin/

13.01.2022 Are you making sourdough? Well here is the event for you! You can tour the Sourdough Library! Who knew that was even a thing?

13.01.2022 Its Womens Health Week! Womens Health Queensland have put together some great videos of women discussing who their best health ally is. Turns out they come in all shapes and forms. Who is your best health ally?

12.01.2022 Happy Sunday! It's another warm one here. Today we're focusing on gratitude. Why not let someone you are grateful for know and tell them why too. You'll make their day. Aww

11.01.2022 Do you often relax on the clinic treatment table and gaze upon the wandering philodendron hanging effortlessly from the ceiling? You’re not alone, many of my patients comment on it and love to see how it has grown since their last treatment. This plant was very kindly gifted to the clinic and I’m very grateful for that too.

11.01.2022 We both love qigong here in the clinic. Qigong is considered to be a branch of Chinese medicine. If you’d like qigong to be part of what you do feel free to ask us for some options for learning qigong at your next appointment.

10.01.2022 On a rainy day like today who loves lying under the heat lamp during their acupuncture treatment? We have hot oolong tea in the pot for after your treatment too.

10.01.2022 Ive worked really hard to get my clinic to be a low risk and #covidsafe environment for you to get the best of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine care. That said, I think well all be happy when it is safe to reduce the restrictions. It looks like the Longley International Hotel are looking forward to this too!

10.01.2022 Ladies! A brilliant woman I know is recruiting for her trial on recurrent vulvovaginal thrush. If this affects you or someone you know, click through. Its open to women anywhere in Australia.

09.01.2022 The wonderful Claire from Bright Beginnings Yoga is running a course on yoga for parenthood. Great for new parents it includes: - A safe, intimate and comfortable space for you and your baby to connect with other parents and their bubs - Some gentle movement and breathing exercises for sore, tired and/or busy parents - A guided reflection upon the week's principle - Time for quiet journaling/reflection and then sharing/discussing in a group format (with no obligation to share... openly, only if you feel called) - A yoga exercise related to the principle to help bring experiential relevance - Time for parents to catch up and chat (we can go over the hour mark a little if people are enjoying a chat) - Nurturing herbal tea will be provided Click through for more information and to book.

09.01.2022 News from the clinic! We've just sent out our clinic newsletter.

09.01.2022 Happy Acupuncture Awareness Day! Let's celebrate with a question. What do you most love about acupuncture?

09.01.2022 Make your journey today an adventure! Even if it's just the trip to work. What did you discover?

09.01.2022 As many of you know Im a foodie. Ive just discovered this podcast, Gastropod (I am very late off the mark). Its about the history and science of food (not recipes). First episode is about cutlery, which sounds boring but is actually fascinating! I feel validated about being choosy with cutlery now. Also, confession, much to my parents dismay when I was growing up I am a right hand fork user! Do you have favourite cutlery or cutlery that only feels right for certain foods?

09.01.2022 Walking this section of George St, just down from the clinic, House of Prana, makes me so happy. I feel so grateful to live in this beautiful, little city.

09.01.2022 Launceston! Take care in this windy weather with gusts of up to 80km/h! Make sure to rug up and wear a scarf to protect your neck! In Chinese Medicine the wind is considered to be the cause of the 100 diseases. It is thought that wind affects the top half of the body including the face, skin, pores, neck and lungs, hence the reason to wear a scarf around your neck! It is said to cause sudden and moving or changing symptoms.

08.01.2022 Trying to conceive? Jaclyn Harris - Fertility, Pregnancy, Motherhoods Two Week Wait class starts tonight. Its an excellent complement to your acupuncture. You can still sign up!

08.01.2022 As you know, my COVID safe plan includes me wearing a surgical mask for your treatment (among an array of other measures). This is a fascinating article (with great videos) to show you why my mask wearing is likely to reduce your risk significantly from contact with droplets when having a treatment in my clinic. Its always safety first here to give you the best acupuncture treatment for your health. #firstdonoharm

07.01.2022 Don’t you just love wombats? And like these wombats have you been out walking in our beautiful national parks lately? Where’s your favourite place to walk?

07.01.2022 I highly recommend this mindfulness program and theres one last space left in their online course available now.

07.01.2022 Happy winter solstice! Are you doing anything special to celebrate our shortest day?

07.01.2022 Baking fails anyone? Yesterday I went to make an Ottolenghi rolled pavlova from his book, Sweet. Unfortunately the pavlova rose in the oven then deflated to be 5mm thick. So that’s in the compost now and in desperation I ended up buying a pav from the supermarket and decorating it with these giant blackberries and apricots sourced from Harvest Launceston, still in the style of the Ottolenghi recipe. Now the one big gem I have is that if you need to do a dairy free pav, just replace the cream with natural coconut yoghurt. You don’t need to whip it or add anything else to it, it can just be spooned out straight on top. (Thanks to my friend Stef for this tip!) I also stuck to the original Ottolenghi recipe and topped the fruit with toasted, flaked almonds. It was delicious, even for a baking fail.

07.01.2022 I know we're a bit late now, so unless you want to look at the stars, save this one for when you wake up in the morning. Make yourself a cuppa or warm water with lemon/ginger/cardamom and take a wander around your backyard or outdoor space. What five beautiful things did you notice? Feel free to leave some photos of them here.

07.01.2022 It’s a cooler, rainy day in Launceston today. The perfect accompaniment is a pot of Oolong tea. It’s like liquid sunshine. Oolong tea is warmer in nature than green tea and is a bit more biscuity so makes a great comfort tea (good for those trying to substitute comfort foods perhaps). You can find beautiful quality loose leaf oolong tea on our clinic tea menu too if you need it for home. Tea menu in the comments.

07.01.2022 This is not a good year for any of us who suffer from hay fever . If you are prone to hay fever do speak to me about preventive care at your next appointment. This year hay fever preventative care is more important that ever. If you do get acute hay fever symptoms during the pandemic you’ll find the government’s advice below and press release in the comments.

06.01.2022 Do you grow calendula in your garden? Here’s a great sounding recipe for calendula cookies! If we were making them to be gluten free we’d probably substitute the whole wheat flour for brown rice flour (but we haven’t tested it in the recipe yet to be sure). Click through for the recipe. If you make them and or/adapt the recipe we’d love to hear about your cookies and see a photo below.

06.01.2022 Here’s a blast from the past from up in South East Queensland.

06.01.2022 As the sun goes down on this weekend, lets play an acupuncture game . Replace any word of a movie title with Qi. The Chinese word Qi can be used as a noun and could be thought of as a way of naming the vibrancy, function or unique style of anything including your body, organs, food and everything other thing. Ill go first: Revenge of the Qi, The Qi Strikes Back...

05.01.2022 The great team at In-Balance are starting some more mums and bubs and pregnancy pilates classes. Click through for more information. Pilates may be a lovely complement to your acupuncture.

05.01.2022 Did you know acupuncture today draws from the oldest anatomical records that exist? So you benefit from ancient science and modern research when you have your acupuncture treatment. There is an ever increasing body of evidence-based research that supports the efficacy of acupuncture for conditions as varied as migraine to osteoarthritis of the knee. The most recent draft NICE guidelines, published in August 2020, recommend the use of acupuncture as a first line treatment for chronic pain.

05.01.2022 Frosty at your place today? Heres my chilled out kale. Winter is definitely in full swing now! What did your place look like this morning?

05.01.2022 Here in the clinic I take your health seriously in every way which is why social distancing (where possible) and other infection control measures are still a big part of my COVID safe plan. Its behaviours like this plus washing your hands, not touching your face, covering your face if you cough or sneeze and staying home if youre sick (and calling the health hotline or contacting your GP to be screened for a test), that each of us can do to reduce an outbreak should a positive case slip through into Fortress Tasmania. Its easy to forget that coronavirus is still a threat here in Tassie however we should remember that we are very much in a global pandemic. Lets stay aware wherever we go so we can keep freely enjoying our lovely state and protect our community.

05.01.2022 Acupuncture really is a worldwide therapy and I'm so proud to be part of it. Here's a gorgeous video from ETCMA showcasing acupuncturists from around the world for Acupuncture Awareness Day. You can learn to say "I do acupuncture" in many, many languages!

04.01.2022 Even though Sarah no longer lectures in person at a campus, this weekend she’s involved in some academic work in the Endeavour College of Natural Health Bachelor of Health Science (Acupuncture) program. The subject she’s working in is Chinese Dietetics which is one of her favourite areas of Chinese Medicine. Here she is all set up for the weekend with everything she needs: computer ergonomic stand up desk loose leaf tea (@noosaheadsdistillery gin tea if you must know)... cat (this list is not in order of importance, obviously) How are you spending your weekend?

04.01.2022 Do you have some thoughts to share with researchers on how you have managed through the COVID-19 pandemic and what would help you from this point on? Monash Uni have a survey you can participate in here. Feel free to share it onward too.

04.01.2022 Wowsers! It’s been three years since I left my Senior Lecturer of Chinese Medicine role at the Gold Coast with this gorgeous group of fellow lecturers and students and settled here in beautiful Launceston. I’m so very glad to be here and I’m grateful to everyone who has supported my clinic here.

03.01.2022 OMG! Who woke up to snow?! Got some pics of your winter wonderland?

03.01.2022 SOUND ON There really is no better place to be on a rainy Launceston Show Day than relaxing on the table during your acupuncture appointment listening to the rain on the roof.

03.01.2022 Today I’m attending day 1 of the Health of the Heroine, a symposium on advanced women’s and reproductive clinical care. Topics today include: mental health IVF... cardiovascular disease translating female specific pathology results Can’t wait to share this with you all in clinic.

03.01.2022 Perfect for Launceston today

02.01.2022 This time eight years ago I was attending a karate seminar and grading in Japan. It was an incredible experience in training the mind and the body. Today, Im studying a module on stress, self-care and mindfulness. Mindfulness is built into so much of Japanese culture. How do you manage stress and integrate self-care into your life?

02.01.2022 Yes! You can still pick up some high quality green teas, oolong tea, herbal teas and chai tea from me at my clinic at House of Prana Launceston. This tea, hojicha, always reminds me of Sam from Mindfully More - Redcliffe Yoga & Massage and takes me back to the Japanese cooking workshop we ran here in Launceston. Hojicha is a delicately roasted green tea that could be described as sweet and biscuity with an aroma reminiscent of nuts and toast.

02.01.2022 We sometimes prescribe moxa treatment for you to do at home. Here's a video of the tips we teach you in the clinic so you can do moxa safely at home. Remember to always follow your written instructions we send you and ask us for help if you need it prior to starting moxa at home.

02.01.2022 Need an acupuncture appointment at 3pm today? Sarah has a last minute appointment today for a returning patient. Call or text on 0448 128 858.

01.01.2022 Here’s a big shout out to the wonderful Jaclyn Harris - Fertility, Pregnancy, Motherhood who we love to work with so that people who seek our help for fertility (including IVF support) and pregnancy get a holistic approach to their care. Like us, Jaclyn cares deeply about these areas and is highly trained and experienced. When time is a factor, or a situation feels complicated, a collaborative approach between well trained acupuncturists and naturopath gives you the supportive care that may make the difference.

01.01.2022 Have you thought about your breath works in your body? Heres some wonderful illustrations to help you visualise the internal workings of your breath shared by Claire from Bright Beginnings Yoga. Go on, take three good breaths right now.

01.01.2022 Ok we love this one. A good place to start is to eat whole foods (not from a packet), mostly plants (although this varies from person to person). Feel free to show us your whole foods breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks in the comments.

01.01.2022 You may have noticed I have been a little quiet recently, well thats because I have taken a little break in nature. It's so wonderfully recharging to be in the sea air, green spaces and to explore places youve never been before. We took a trip to the north west coast and then to an island in the north east, Cape Barren Island. Scroll through for a few pics. And Ive had a wonderful week since back in clinic, recharged and refreshed.

01.01.2022 EDIT: EMAIL FIXED! Feel free to drop me a message. Oh no! My email is down! In some sort of delayed #mercuryretrograde effect my email has gone down. If you’re trying to get in touch you can reach me through phone (0448128858) or through Facebook or Instagram. If you leave me a message I’ll be in touch as soon as I can. #emailfail #usethephone #acupunctureclinic #smokesignals

01.01.2022 Bring on day 2 of the Integria symposium The Health of the Heroine today. If yesterday was anything to go by we’re in for a brilliant day today. I’m armed today with some beautiful green tea (from a tea ball) which is not only delicious and gently stimulating but also aids my microcirculation. Today we have three expert speakers on women’s health speaking on: endometriosis female genitourinary microbiome... preconception care But now, we do yoga.
