21.01.2022 Last month we did a little experiment with bread to illustrate the importance of hand washing, especially during the current COVID pandemic. We took a few slices of fresh bread, the 1st slice was untouched, the 2nd slice was passed around and touched with unwashed hands and the 3rd slice was passed around after the children had washed their hands with warm soapy water for 30 seconds. We put each slice into a ziplock bag and watched them over the course of a few weeks to see h...ow each slice reacted. As you can clearly see the bread with unwashed hands started to grow mould much faster than the others and by the end it was covered in mould while the untouched slice only had a few small spots and the clean hands only had a section with mould. The kids were totally grossed out as they watched the mould grow! We looked closely at each slice of bread and could see all the different types of mould that grew on the dirty hands slice, from all the different germs on our hands We all learnt a valuable lesson about how important it is to wash your hands!
19.01.2022 After a break over the holidays, we’re back! Except now instead of before and after school care it’ll be homeschooling them all at my place Today we used oil pastels to create these amazing galaxy pictures even one of the boys who normally hates art was excited to create one ..and don’t they all look absolutely incredible!
18.01.2022 Enjoying the nice fresh air before school with a game of down ball.
13.01.2022 How cool are these 3D optical illusion hand drawings that a couple of the older kids did! This took a lot of patience and a steady hand, I was so impressed with how focused they were while they did this drawing, and it paid off as the result was pretty awesome!
12.01.2022 WE SCIENCE! Today we learnt about capillary action with a walking water experiment and also learnt about colour mixing. How this experiment works: The water moves up the paper towels through a process called capillary action. The paper towel is made from fibers and the water is able to travel through the gaps in the fibers. The gaps in the paper towel act like capillary tubes and pull the water upward. This is what helps water climb from a plant’s roots to the leaves ...at the top of the plant or tree. The water is able to move upward against gravity because of the attractive forces between the water and the fibers in the paper towel.
11.01.2022 Mini Pizzas today (as you can see they all opted for just the basics for their toppings, but they did have some of the veg on the side )
11.01.2022 Today we created raised salt paintings 1. draw a simple picture with glue 2. cover in salt 3. dab lightly with watercolor paint and watch the colour spread along the salt lines! (Video in comments of what it looks like when the paint spreads along the salt)
10.01.2022 The kids really thought outside the box with this one! One black dot can be.. Before they started drawing, they talked amongst themselves about what their black dot could be.. they started off with simpler ideas like the wheel of a car, a balloon, a flower etc. then their imaginations ran wild and they got super creative with what they decided on

07.01.2022 P L A Y D O U G H Below is the recipe we used.. I’ve tried other recipes over the years, but this one is by far my favourite. The playdough is so nice and soft and lasts up to 6 months! Ingredients: 1/2 cup salt... 1 cup plain flour 2 tbs cream of tartar 1 cup water 1 tbs oil 3 drops liquid food colouring Method: Mix all ingredients together in a medium-sized saucepan. Stir over medium heat until dough is pliable. remove from heat and allow to cool. Store in a well-sealed plastic bag or container.
03.01.2022 We love nature! We made a couple of trips to the Broadford Common this week to get outside and play using our imaginations, climb and play on the big log/fort.. we also enjoyed exploring nature, looking for bugs and different types of mushrooms and learnt some new facts along the way.
02.01.2022 Yay for parks being re-opened! Kids had a lovely time this afternoon playing at the local playground.
