23.01.2022 A rare opportunity to embrace our connection with Indonesia right here in Wollongong. I'll be there tomorrow :)

23.01.2022 Last Friday we did our little celebration of Hari kemerdekaan. Children were dissapointed about not being able to do makan krupuk and there was no bakso like last year. As with covid safe protocol we can't have parents around to make the bakso, but we did what we could. The children asked why the flag is red and white, what do they mean and how come it's the same colour as Poland's flag. So we watched a video about how merah putih came about. For a little bit of fun we did "lomba cari bendera" where senior children had to use their direction vocabulary (lurus, kiri, kanan) to instruct the junior children how to get to bendera, we also did a version of "lomba kelereng" without putting the spoon in the mouth and of course there are hadiah at the end because hadiah are the best thing out of hari kemerdekaan

20.01.2022 These two are the best singers in my class

18.01.2022 We started 'belajar di rumah' this week... I miss everyone but time is tough and we all have to do our part. Terima kasih anak-anak for always trying your best! Terima kasih juga orang tua yang terus mendukung anak-anak belajar bahasa Indonesia (Thank you parents who continue to support your children to learn Indonesian). Here's a little video compilation of some of our beautiful children from their "belajar di rumah" sessions. Hopefully it brings some smile. They certainly cheer me up! Di rumah saja tapi tetap senang!

18.01.2022 As someone who grew up in a multilingual country (Indonesia), I took multilingualism for granted. Now that I have to raise my own child in an English speaking country...I realise multilingualism doesn't come without an effort of my part. I would like to thank our students' parents who decided to join me on this journey. You're awesome!

15.01.2022 Kami sudah siap

15.01.2022 A former Indonesian LOTE teacher donated these precious resources to us. Terima kasih banyak! We will certainly make good use of them.

15.01.2022 Our little community language school has grown a little in size and to see what we achieve today despite our many limitations brings tears to my eyes. It's not a one man effort, each and everyone contributes in their unique way with the goal of providing a channel for our Wollongong children to embrace Indonesia. It's amazing what we can achieve when everyone does small things with great love. I'm looking forward to see what next year brings for our little community. This is us today at our end of year event: students, parents, teachers, and student volunteers. We dress up, we sing, we dance, and we are proud of us. Our very own little Indonesia in Wollongong. (Missing our two littlest ones who couldn't make it today). Terima kasih semua! Kalian hebat!!

15.01.2022 I believe a second language should be compulsory in primary schools because that's when children can absorb language the quickest.

12.01.2022 We like to end the term with a bang! Selamat menikmati cerita pendek karangan murid-murid kami. So much laughter went into the process of making this story This is what happens when you tell two teenagers and an 8 year old to compose a story using puppets meant for preschoolers

12.01.2022 We would like to thank our principal Ibu Epy Djulianti and teachers from other branches of Pelangi Indonesia School who came all the way to Wollongong for our all teachers meeting. We also attended workshop "Catering for Diversity Needs in the Community Language Classroom" run by Diversity Kids sponsored by NSW Department of Education. We had a very productive day! Terima kasih Ibu Epy atas bimbingan dan dukungannya kepada guru-guru sekolah Pelangi.

09.01.2022 Selamat hari ulang tahun, Indonesia! Jumat lalu, some of our children watched a video snippet of a typical "upacara bendera" in an Indonesian school and a peek of a typical Indonesian classroom. There was curiosity about Burung Garuda. "Why is it everywhere in Indonesia?" "Is it a real bird?" "What does it mean?" I found a great video explaining about Garuda! There's English subtitle too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vArDJ6ia3jE&t=79s
