24.01.2022 Dear Family and Friends, This week’s gospel reading from Matthew is about greed and jealousy; two very destructive human traits which destroy relationships, ruin businesses and ultimately sabotage a person’s self-esteem. In Matthew 21 we read about Jesus, teaching in the temple about God’s love and promised salvation confronted by the chief priests and elders of the church who questioned by whose authority he was entitled to overturn the money-changers’ tables, heal the sic...Continue reading

24.01.2022 Dear Family and Friends, The distinctive theme of this week’s readings from the New Testament is love and how appropriate is it that, as we celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, we get to hear about God’s magnificent love and grace and read the words of Jesus who promises us joy if we love one another. Mothers understand joy and the simple acts that bring joy because they have been fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139: 14) by God himself to be nurturers, carers, planner...Continue reading

21.01.2022 Dear Family and Friends, How blessed do you consider yourself to be? We usually equate blessings with favourable gain such as: good health, a roof over our heads, the love of family and friends or maybe an unexpected windfall. So it may come as a surprise to hear Jesus say that we are blessed if we are poor, mourning, hungry and thirsty! But we know Jesus well enough (I hope) to understand that what we read or hear is not what lies behind His words. He gave the Sermon on ...the Mount to awaken people to the blessings of our spiritual well-being and our ultimate happiness as we read in this week’s Words Of Wisdom: Rejoice and be glad because great is your reward in heaven. (Matthew 5: 12)) Want to hear more about Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount? Come along to the Family Service tomorrow where we’ll unpack the meaning of the Beatitudes. Hope you can join us. 13.01.2022 Dear Family and Friends, How often do you read a book? And by book I mean a paper-based one . not electronic. I have always loved reading but have to admit that rarely these days do I get to read a book cover to cover. When I’m busy it’s a luxury I find goes by the wayside in preference to getting all the pressing things done and when I do read something it’s more likely to be an article online. I have lots of half-read books (non-fiction) that I pick up from time to tim...Continue reading

09.01.2022 Dear Family and Friends, There is no doubt we live in uncertain times and are bombarded daily with lies, deceit and cover-ups. It’s almost impossible to sort fact from fiction in the political arena, the advertising world or the media and in a world driven by personal gain and a mindset of win at all costs, it is easy to see why so many resort to bending the truth, hiding the facts or using the art of deflecting blame in order to get what they want. God knows how we str...Continue reading

06.01.2022 Dear Family and Friends, Thank you to those who offered suggestions for my song search last week; I was trying to locate one I’d heard on Vision radio with a chorus line of: My help comes from the Lord. During the week I heard a reference to Psalm 121 and that nailed it: Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord. (Psalm 121:1-2) It is a wonderful affirmation of God’s love and protection over us from the Sanctus Real song Unstoppable God which spea...Continue reading

02.01.2022 How did you celebrate Australia Day? Did you attend a local council event, have a bar-b-cue, make and eat lamingtons and pavlova or simply enjoy the cricket and tennis on tele? Special events like Australia Day, Anzac Day, Easter, Christmas, etc are often viewed as just holidays without regard to the original meaning and intent of the occasion. Whether the trend to underplay the occasion is due to political correctness, apathy or a lack of understanding is open for debat...Continue reading

01.01.2022 Dear Family and Friends, Don’t you find it frustrating when you have lyrics running around in your head and you can’t work out the song they come from? Or is it just me? I often hear a song on the radio and go searching for it on You Tube only to find the chorus, which is the part I usually remember, doesn’t help much in the search. Tonight I went looking for a song with lyrics of Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord. I did find songs with those ...Continue reading
