22.01.2022 Some interesting reading! BIRD TEMPERATURE The average body temperature of a bird is 105 degrees Fahrenheit or 40 degrees Celsius.... Internal temperature is regulated through thermo-regulator cells in the skin, which detect cold and constrict the capillaries and blood vessels in a process called vasoconstriction, slowing the speed of blood flow. Temperature regulation starts in the brain and is controlled by hormones such as oestrogen and others, which take into account the body’s core temperature and the temperature of the outer skin. Every cell in the body produces heat as they burn up energy. Some organs will be on more than others, such as the brain, or muscles during exercise therefore they get hotter. This needs to be spread around the body and this is done by the blood, which heats some organs and cools others. The working of muscle generates heat, while fat cells store it. When a body is week and underweight the generation and storage of heat is diminished. When hand Rearing Baby Parrots it is necessary to maintain the correct body temperature by means of a brooder. The temperature of a brooder depends on the down or feather cover of the baby. Non-Direct heating source plus a fan to circulate the air gives even temperature throughout the brooder. Brooder Temperatures 36 Degrees 1-5 days old 35 Degrees 5-10 days old 33 Degrees 11 Days until not naked 29-32 Degrees Only Down Feathers 28 Degrees Cover on Wings and Head --- Partial on Breast Light Globes which create high radiating heat are NOT advisable. Heating Mats and Cords plus small computer fans are the best source of even heat source.
